Thanks!
Good for Tad to put himself out there after only painting a short time. And your painting Michael is amazing.
Thanks Charm! Yes, Tad did a great job 😊👍
Mike, what a great day! Thanks for having me along and for the tips throughout the afternoon. Looking forward to next time!
That was fun! We'll definitely have to paint again sometime soon.
By the way, I listened to your album on youtube and really dig it! Great guitar work and songs.
@@chamberlainpaintings thanks so much! Looking forward to more music talk too!
Your videos are so helpful and I've learned so much from them! Also it's great to see how encouraging you are with newer artists. I feel like some pockets of the art community can be so pretentious and it's nice seeing so much positivity on the internet
I'm glad my videos have helped! I'm always happy to see fellow artists grow and make discoveries. 😊
Cool that Tad got out for his first time 👍 good job!
And I like your painting, Michael. I do think the composition works and I love those trees on the beach!
I also really like the tip about using a color and rubbing it out so that it then leaves a hue underneath to show through...excellent!
We have had record rains here in Juneau this summer and fall and I have not gotten out much lately. Winter should be much better.
Thanks for sharing your videos, as always!
Hey Mike, good on you to mentor Tad. Also saw your vid on the gallery, recognized a few paintings. I pray you do well and make some dough. You freaked me out when you blocked in the sky with cad yellow. I tried that once and it was an epic fail. 👍👍🇨🇦
Thanks Jeff! The show is doing well and I'm very thankful. As for the yellow sky, sometimes you've gotta make bold moves 😂👍
Good for Tad. And lucky Tad to be so fortunate to have you as a mentor.
This is wonderful! Mike and Tad - Thank you for the inspiration!
Thanks!
Tad done really good, Love your painting Mike. I find shadows challenging every time I do them🎨👍
Thanks Tez!
@@chamberlainpaintings 🎨👍
Your ability to do the sketches so quickly makes my head spin . And your no slouch doing the block in. Love it .
I hope to be able to do that one day, but at my age I better hurry up. 🤣. 🎨 thanks Mike for all you do.
Definitely nailing it on composition and light. So happy to have you back out painting and sharing with us.
Thanks Bev!
Thank you for another great tip. Always finding my painting is too dark so now I know why.
Glad you found the info helpful!
Mike, I enjoy the way the light from the ground color reflects back up into the tree branches on the dense side. It's very subtle but it's there. I also like the way the Primaries come through. Beautiful. Tad, strong composition, and great ocean colors. I love your shadows. I was able to learn a few things through your experience. These videos are so pleasantly informal yet informative. Thanks guys.
Thanks Wren!
Thank you, Wren!
Great advice , I'm amazed how quickly you spotted the values on Tad's painting.
Thanks Rick!
I like your willingness to self criticise whilst at the same time not being too precious - great qualities.
Hi Mike, you retained that nice loose feeling and that makes the composition interesting considering there are few elements to the picture. If this had been tight it would just be another tree painting but being loose my attention goes to the tree to explore the shadows and light. And hurray for Tad! getting out there for the first time. He did very well for a newbie.
Thanks! Yes, Tad did a great job!
The colors pop. You developed a great composition.
Thank you!
great painting and love the light. a neat challenge especially for this tree is really make the difference in the branches going towards the light and others coming towards you. love the reflective light and cast shadows great job and great on Tad to get out and paint!
Great painting- you make it look so effortless!!!, love the colour you use, the tree feel warm and mysterious 💕
Thanks!
you’re sooo talented Michael!! Love this ❤️
I guess I need to mess around more with liquin...🤔
I Love your painting just like It is.
And, wow, Tad. You should be proud. My first plein air didn’t turn out half that good!
Always great tips and things I haven’t learned yet. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with all of us!
Thanks! Yes, it takes a little experimenting to figure out how to work with Liquin. And Yes, Tad did a great job!
I have not done any plein air , don’t know why . I am hoping to do it soon . So much to learn from you . Thanks
Plein air is challenging, but definitely helps you grow as a painter. Glad you find my videos helpful!
I think plein air is the hardest kind of painting there is!
I truly like your composition and colours design well done. I think that I have to get out of my studio, I have always gone out drawn, that has made my draughtsmanship better. Painting in the studio, I find is that I can get distracted easily. Focus focus and get outside.
dude you are so lucky man. you get to do everything you love. one day ill get there. starting to see some real progress in my paintings.
Glad you're seeing progress in your work! Yes, you'll get there. It takes time. Don't give up!
Is it just me or is he the coolest father on UA-cam lol
I love this composition.....it's very satisfying because it's complete.
Two things number one the tree branches being highlighted with the Reds very nice second thing the Shadows with the Blues I love it just like the tree branches being in with the red excellent. Van Gogh ish. You're making me a abstract impressionistic lover
Thanks! Painting expressively is a lot of fun.
Another question for the Artist Question and Answer video... what is the difference between saturated and dark?
Great question!
Beautiful painting! Glad to have stumbled onto your video.
im in love with this family ✨💗
Love this tree and shadow. It is divine!
I saw that first scene and said to myself “I swear I’ve seen him paint this before” and then you said “you may recognize this scene, I’ve painted it before” and I felt seen :D
Haha yes, it's a favorite location of mine. 15 minutes from home.
This painting is beautiful.
There is no better California name that screams Malibu than TAD...AWESOME!🤙
He's originally from Santa Barbara 😊🤙
Lol
Your talent>>
Interesting, the painting outside onsite appeared more saturated then when brought inside and in frame. It looks like a different painting!
That's one of the challenges of plein air painting! The paintings look darker and less saturated indoors.
@@chamberlainpaintings That'll drive me crazy! ;)
What was your red reflection color in the tree mixture...if you can remember
It was burnt sienna with a touch of white. I think....
Love love this
Sweet tree shadows!
Thanks Dennis!
I went to buy some painting tubes before the new lockdown and I've been checking plein air easels at the store...maybe next year I try outside. I've seen your improvement and also your confidence rise thanks to painting outdoors. I checked one that looks kind of like the one you are using (wooden) and it was 160€...tell me if the price is right, it has a drawer with a palette and looked well built.
That sound like a fair price!
Love the tree holes!!
So cool! You are so talented!
Michael, how did your relationship with Studio Gallery start? Did you approach them or did they find you? Trying to chart a course and I'd love to find a similar gallery - one that promotes local artists - where I am.
Great question for the artist talk!
