Section Z feels like the shooting of SideArms poured into the hub-driven maze world of The Clash at Demonhead. It's unconventional and a little janky, but as long as you don't mind taking notes, it can be a lot of fun.
I always thought of the NES port of this game as a poor-man's SideArms. As if the NES didn't have the power to recreate the arcade experience of SideArms so we got Section-Z instead.
Without a map, this game was VERY frustrating. I do enjoy it, though. In the months leading up to the debut of Mega Man, the blue bomber himself, Capcom was trying to do some adaptations of some of their biggest early Arcade hits, and I think overall, they made a good effort with this one.
this was one of those games you bought for the box art. played it for a couple weeks and then it sat and collected dust under your wood grain 80s tv shelf .
Section-Z was a poor man's "Hyper Dyne Side Arms". At least that's how I saw it as a kid. We all wanted Side Arms, but the best we could get on the NES hardware was Section-Z.
@@HappyMealBieber nearly 50 I’ve never heard of the term bubblegum crisis, and I bet you back then even a fewer did. They probably didn’t expect anybody to notice and I would imagine hardly anybody did.
@@jamielannoo4250 I don't think the point was recognition, as much as "ripping off" a killer design, that recognized or not, would get kids to go "Cool! I want THAT game!" .......Guilty as charged. A couple of weeks. Make little progress. Collect dust.
One of my first ten NES games that i owned as a kid. It is frustrating without a map, but the OST and shooting make up for the difficulty Edit: I'd say this is better than the og Arcade cause it doesn't have the confusing rotation system.
it almost fools you into thinking its an arcade style mecha shooter, but is really an adventure game. i played the hell out of this until i beat it as a kid. that is, once i accepted it for what it was.
One of the few NES shoot em ups I ever owned, you don't find Section Z?! It finds you if you are lucky enough to come across and understand it here. I still wait for a rom with some level or new colours sigh.
This game is hard yet I’m intrigued. I want to get better at it. I just received a copy with Metroid (which was supposed to be Rygar!). Both Metroid and Section Z seem confusing and intriguing. I will see if I can beat them.
This game is so Bad A$$ , the music is fantastic. I could never get past the last part even with a guide lol (you have to take a specific path before you get to the end)
I'm stuck cause i don't have no idea where to go i hit level 37 next thing i know i choose the wrong warp bam level 20 must of done that fifty times lol

Rest assured, this is all Capcom, right down to the staff; the music was composed by Kumi Yamaga & Tamayo Kawamoto. Micronics was only behind their first three NES games. Why would you think Micronics handled this port?
@@VahanNisanianI've never played this game prior to this video, plus I didn't research the number of games that Micronics "ported" before Capcom gave them the middle finger & started in-house development for the NES.

Love the soundtrack too

SideArms Hyper Dyne is so good
That intro theme always gets me pumped! Such a great tune.
That ending sequence has really impressive graphics for such an early NES game.
Ikr it almost looks like it was made in 1989 or 1990
I never made it very far on this game when it first came out. Thanks for showing me the ending. God, I feel old now.
So many memories of playing this when I should have been doing my book report.
This game was my JAM!!!
This was one game I NEVER was able to finish since I had no clue where I was going.
I can honestly say i beat this game when I was in college. Im 60 years old now. 👴

I never did figure out the maze. And by the time I was getting older, my NES had a hardware failure and that was the end of it.
The energy mechanic made it manageable. Imagine if this was like the arcade?
First thing that comes to mind for me when Captain Commando is mentioned is usually the infamous box art for the first Mega Man game.
I never heard of this game. That’s why I like this channel. I keep finding games for the first time.
When you take a MetroidVania and an arcade style flying shoot-em-up, and mix them together, you get Section Z.
This was originally released on Famicom Disk and had save/load features. It was one of only three games released by Capcom for the FDS.
Huh, so thats what the third screen of the game looks like
What a nice ending song 😌

@@telengardforever7783 The box art is a blatant rip off of Bubblegum crisis . Like who cant see that. The game is repetitive garbage

I waited 39 years to see the end
I think a lot of people would think that this was an Arcade shoot em up. It actually resembles Metroid more
To the point I actually thought that the main character was Samus because I had never played a Metroid before Smash Bros. came out XD

I could never figure out which levels to warp through to get to the end
Your gameplay vids are awesome. I hope to see you do Alien Soldier someday.
FUN FACT: The arcade version of Section Z is most likely the predecessor to Hyper Dyne Side Arms.
Music sounds like it belongs in a mega man game
Both Section Z and Mega Man are NES/Famicom games made by Capcom.
E pensar que nos divertíamos com isso. Hoje em dia os mais jovens estão mal acostumados, com jogos que parecem filmes e ainda ficam reclamando

Hahaha yeah, it's funny how the name only makes sense for the arcade version.
@@NintendoComplete , yeah when I said rom. I meant "ROM" hack sigh...
When it does find you, it makes sure that you never forget it.
This one is giving me plenty of trouble! I've mapped almost all of it and am almost through, but the game is tough.
Excellent video.
This was the first game i rented back in 89....👴🏼
Possibly the same here. I don't recall if this was the first we rented or another. I just remember that we weren't very impressed by it.
Congratulations 😊❤
Funny thing about this game like Mega Man, if you use Game Genie, the sound gets all messed up LOL ;)
I really just read the title as Sector Z, at first glance...
The makers of Abadox most likely are fans of this game🤔
This should’ve been Section Z 2,
because this is nothing like the Arcade version.
The Disk System version had loading screens, and didn't have the glitch during the credits.
It would've been really nice if they had kept the save system for the NES version, or at least passwords.

I really suggest you play Alien Soldier for the Genesis if you like games like this!

Wasn't a thing until two years later.
I hope Micronics didn't handle this port.
