A little information about the music. They're actually using Konami's old Arcade sound font. It's what they used to use for many Konami games in the arcade. Also, the "BARK" is Konami's old orchestral HIT sound. It was used a lot back in the day. It's very... KONAMI.. sounding.
@Tom Ffrench Ugh yeah, don't remind me of that stuff. The reason we can't have Bayonetta 2 and 3 on PC or anything else then a Nintendo console is... Nintendo clinging to it. It is already a wonder, that Nintendo made those mobile games they did. But then again they have in my opinion outrageous MTX in them... but looking at other mobile games... they all have.
@Tom Ffrench I mentioned Bayonetta because it was not a Nintendo exclusive. After Nintendo brought them in to bring Bayonetta 2 exclusively it suddenly was. I have nothing against a game series that is exclusive to some System, like the Metroid Series as example. Yeah... a harsh example as it is a Nintendo series, but I would never even get the idea that Metroid... or Metroid Prime for that matter should be released outside a Nintendo console. In the case of Bayonetta it is weird. Ah well... that's why we have emulation...;p
Rondo of Blood was released on another bundle called Castlevania Requiem, bundled with Symphony of the Night. So it would've been pointless to release it again.
I was fortunate enough to download this on my wii back in like 2015, and I'm glad I did because I didn't even consider the possibility that it might no longer be available one day. this is a great game that no castlevania fan should miss out on
i've patched my "copy" of the game to play battle of the holy in the first stage, and it's cool af now. Soundfont sounds so familiar not only because of the genesis, but because of the arcade boards that used a different iteration of yamaha soundchips, haunted castle comes a lot to mind in this regard. Absolutely loved this game.
I never played a singel castlevania game, but i randomly found this video on UA-cam and i gotta say, you definitely deserve more subs man, this video was really informative and well executed :)
I really enjoyed this video! I can't wait to try it on dolphin. It's pretty stupid that this game isn't included in the castlevania collection. Both were made by M2
One Castlevania game you should've mentioned is Chronicles on the PS1/X68000, it's another 16-bit styled Castlevania and another remake of Castlevania 1, it's criminally overlooked considering how good it is. One of the tracks in this game ("Load BGM") actually originated from Chronicles.

The dog bark is the Konami Orch Hit also used in Turtles in Time on SNES.
I recently made a video about lost media and used Castlevania Rebirth as an example as well. I recently discovered your channel and love it. You make great videos!
SoundFont is a brand name that collectively refers to a file format and associated technology that uses sample-based synthesis to play MIDI files. It was first used on the Sound Blaster AWE32 sound card for its General MIDI support.
I would disagree on whip upgrades being useless. The fireball upgrade having a timer alone means the upgrades do matter. Also losing your upgrade when hit was terrible in the final two stages that didn't give you new upgrades. Having to beat dracula without getting hit once was just irritating.
You are not the only one who loves The Adventure. I fell in love with Bloodlines when it came out on Genesis and got all the game boy games because it was the Nintendo system I had. I love them all.
24:37 That is a weird version of what's supposed to be an Impact Hit, this specific sample can be heard in some of Konami's SNES titles like TMNT: Turtles in Time and Sunset Riders, so if you wanna hear more of that sound there you go.
I really wish they would have released this on Switch, the only people who have it are people who happened to download it on the Nintendo Wii, its so sad most of us never knew it was a thing until it was to late. I'd love to see Limited Run do a physical release of this of the Switch.
Thought I was the only one irked by its lack of Adventure material. At the very least keep the music- it only had four stage themes. As a CV game in general I really like it even if it's not one if my favorites. It gave more than it needed to as a Wiiware game and I appreciate how faithful to the formula M2 was. Also like that they gave Christopher some love when they easily could've retold CV1 for the thousandth time.
Ah yeah the "bark" is used in a lord of old Konami Arcade games. If you give some of the music from Sunset Riders or Turtles in time a listen, you'll hear. It's a nice nod imo.

No, sir. You are not the only one who likes playing Castlevania: The Adventure. I enjoy it as well despite everybody else's opinions. But, it's good to know that you enjoy it too. The reason Christopher Belmont walks casually is because he's enjoying the scenery (As do I, lol) I never got a chance to play Rebirth.

It's included with Symphony of the Night in a collection on PS4 and PS5 exclusively. The SNES version was added to the just released Advance Collection on all platforms.
Excellent video. It's a shame this never got a re-release. As someone who firmly prefers "classicvania" to "metroidvania" I hoped this would get a new lease on life with the collections. Also I'm no expert, but I believe the audio was an attempt to recreate the sound of the Sharp x68000 version of Castlevania. I remember M2 talking about it in an old interview, but this was more than 10 years ago that I read about it.
I remember hearing the bark noise in turtles in time on snes too, also konami. I wonder why they didnt put this on the castlevania collection from the ps store, it would of fit nicely, probably better then kid dracula although im not complaining we got kid dracula. watching this made me want a holy diver remake in the same style.
Near future, not likely, as I actually haven't played any of the games in that collection before, and I want to take my time with them. Individual reviews sprinkled throughout the future though is a definite possibility once my school-life calms down a bit
I would definitely buy it if they did. Or even if they just brought it over to the Switch as digital, though that would defeat the purpose of keeping them preserved
@@Bofner I like the model of releasing games digitally first, then once they patch up the issues, release the game physical with all patches on the cart/disc for preservation. I'm curious if the G-Darius HD stand alone cart has more up to date patches on the cart than the Strictly Limited release. Guess I'll find out in a few days.
100% Agree! I did get it when it was available and I still have my Wii with it installed. They'll have to tear it from my cold dead hands to get it from me, tho. ;)
Rebirth does look like fun. Surprised they never released it on the GBA, DS, or 2DS. I wish the nintendo wii shop had been easier to purchase games off of.
i absolutely agree, this game is amazing, but has nothing in comparison with the original 12:10 i don't like this system, at least the system as it is in Adventure, where your starting whip is so weak 20:03 loved the chandeliers from bloodlines and stair-jumping of Rondo 24:50 ...yeah. the roar on hitting dracula's second form in particular was just...ugh. they also use that exact sound for one of the enemies appearing in DmC so that's a bonus...but worse. is there a word for negative bonus?
Opinion on Castlevania Chronicles for ps1? It’s a remake of the original that updates the visuals and controls, making it feel more inline with Rondo, Bloodline, and Rebirth.
I've played it a little a couple of years ago. I remember it being quite difficult, but liking it quite a bit. It's one I'd like to look at again more seriously in the future for sure
i like Adventure for GB too, quite a lot. i do like ReBirth as a game, but i agree with your views on it quite a bit. also - the rubber ball place you called undodgeable is actually possible to dodge - the game randomly picks between two patterns for that one ball, and one of them is a bit easy to hit, making you able to proceed and kill the enemy. it's still a pain though also, now that i think about it, ReBirth sort of reminds me of the cancelled 32X game - it even has a player sprite that looks sort of like Richter but with red clothing.
I really wanna play this, they should make another Castlevania collection that includes Rondo of Blood, Symphony of the Night, Chronicles and Adventure rebirth.
@@Bofner Rondo and Sotn did get released on PS4, but not on anything else and Chronicles and Rebirth are still unported. I guess Konami just aren't interested, but one can still hope for some kind of re-release. Would be cool if they added the Saturn exclusives into Sotn too.
Have you played the Saturn version before? Its really interesting. People complain about the uneven pixels a lot, but if that doesn't bother you, is definitely worth playing. Maria plays totally different from how she does on PSP and the extra areas are really cool
@@Bofner the Saturn version was the first time I played SotN. I still think it's awesome and I think the extra items, areas, playable Maria and the boss fight against Maria add quite a bit to the game! If it wasn't for the slowdown and loading times when going into the menu, I would totally prefer over the PS1 original. I also like the new remixed tracks they added. It would be awesome if there was something like a Symphony of the Night Definitive Edition that combined the perfomance, graphics and special effects from the PS1 version and the new items, areas, music and bosses from the Saturn version.
I’m disappointed with the not-pixel-perfect thing because they could have forced pixel perfect rendering, even while freely rotating sprites, and it would have looked about a billion times better.
Rondo is most easily played on Castlevania Requiem for PS4. I don't have a PS4 though. It's also on PSP as an unlockable extra in the remake in Castlevania Draula X Chronicles. And then of course on the old school PC Engine CD
For me it's the weird motion that's smoother than anything in actual 240p resolution could do, the awkward way some effects, and movement just don't lock to the pixels and go between.
I bought this for my Red Wii but shortly after proceeded to hack my wii and download WADs, now my Wii is not used and packed away in its original box for someone someday to find with Castlevania Adventure Rebirth loaded on it legitly.
If a game can't be purchased its considered vaporware/abandonware and can be downloaded emulated. That's literally the reason emulation is still considered legal.
This is still infinitely better than Adventure even if it doesn't reuse the handful of Adventure's "good" ideas. It was really cool of Konami to remake one of their most disliked and poor titles in the series and make it far more akin to their best entries, making yet another amazing title for the franchise.
I feel like this game is less an homage to The Adventure or even the Game Boy trilogy, and more to classicvania as a whole; none of the songs in this game are original, they all come from previous Castlevania games as far as I can tell, with some surprising choices as well (like the prologue coming from the map screen in Dracula X for SNES). However even considering all of this, I still walked away very disappointed with this game even if I liked the package. First, I'm not a fan of how the game forces you to use up+attack to throw a subweapon. It made sense for the 8-bit titles and Rondo since their controllers couldn't do it any other way, but both SC4, Bloodlines, and even Rondo on the PSP use a dedicated button for subweapons or at least have an option to do so. I don't think ReBirth has an excuse for this considering even a sideway wiimote had at least three buttons you could press at all times (1, 2, B). You also mentioned the stairs going back to how they were in the 8 bit titles, and I also thought it wasn't a very fun change. You can make some interesting levels with them, but I don't think The Adventure ReBirth actually uses them in a very clever way. It feels like a step back from Rondo, Bloodlines, and Dracula X, and I think the game suffers for it. I definitely enjoyed the branching paths, I especially liked the devilish puzzle in stage 4 (or was it 5? Can't remember) that lets you skip the miniboss. However, while they do make the game more replayable, I find myself wanting to revisit this title less than the 8/16 bit Castlevanias, and I think that's because the levels are a tad too long and make the game feel tiresome. There are a lot of other small annoyances, like not being able to have a restricted jump arc with all 5 subweapons, or a lot of locked doors leading go pathetic rewards like points or a few hearts, that ultimately make me consider this one of the less good linear Castlevanias. It's not bad by any means, it's a huge improvement over The Adventure and Legends and there's a lot to like about it, but ultimately I feel it would seem a bit outdated even if it released in the late '90s. Also the remix of Battle of the Holy for this game is amazing and it's criminal that it was unused.
Yes, its a good remake Now that i finished the video, i think im gonna slightly agree with you that the game doesnt have the identity of the Original Adventure. But i honestly prefer the aesthetics here than in Adventure. All has charm and in all honesty, all tye bad stuff of Adventure and the other GB games is gone here. I prefer when remakes the the good, remove what doesnt work (ropes and the vertical tranversal on the GB games suck including the jump on Adventure), and making it slightly its own thing. Thats how remakes (in theory) should do. Most dont (look at you Pokemon), but im glad Konami did something beyond angering their fans or making slot machines and gave Christopher a really good game that isnt overhated (that said, the GB games arent that bad. They did their best with the limitations) and has its charm. What i will 100% agree is the music. Sure, i love it, but i wish it was in game most of The Adventure game tracks than a mix between the fan favorites. Or just released an album with the original themes on this style. Overall, i disagree a lot with this review, but i still love ppl talking of this game and it deserves the love it has gotten (also needs a port to a Castlevania Collection).
Thanks for rubbing it in that i never bought it 😒 Konami really needs to make a COMPLETE CASTLEVANIA COLLECTION. I bought the collection on Switch (which was good) but still lacking Rebirth and Chronicles and why not throw the MSX Castlevania in for fun. C'mon, Konami!
I’ve seen a lot of people be confused that they would remake the adventure, but it makes all of the sense in the world. Castlevania 1 has been remade so many times, Castlevania 2 doesn’t fit the classic style, Castlevania 3 is pretty complex and Bloodlines is too unknown (at that time). So that left Rondo of Blood and The Adventure, and Rondo of Blood is perfect and already has a reimagining. So why not improve a game that most people, myself included dislike, and make a remake of that? It also makes the original Christopher Belmont story better, as it shows when he is young and on the top of his game. He’s super slow in the adventure, which doesn’t make sense because he’s more athletic as a father than as a young man. I also like the idea that he has a more standard Dracula fight which contrasts with how Belmont’s revenge is different from the other Belmont’s stories are.
I remember being super excited for this and downloading it as soon as it was available. (Yes, I still have access to it😁) However, I was pretty disappointed in it. It just really didn’t check any boxes for me. It wasn’t nostalgic, the level design wasn’t great, it wasn’t even an actual “remake,” it was a brand new game the ended up a hodgepodge of classic elements rather than a well crafted experience with some nods to the older games. I played and beat it several times, but never had much interest in going back to this one
What??? Battle of the Holy is the ONLY good song in the game. None of the rest of the songs are even close to some of the amazing tracks in CV games, including even the first game.
I just headcanon Rebirth as a third Christopher adventure. Like I headcanon IV as a follow-up to Dracula's hand reaching out of his grave at the end of Simon's Quest, and not a remake. They're completely different games, so they deserve to stand on their own feet. Jury's still out on whether I should consider Chronicles a different game though.

Low resolution is for old hardware. If you're using low resolution graphics in 2021 then you're a poseur and you probably weren't around in the 1980s to play the originals. We wanted HIRES 2D in the 1990s but got crappy LORES 3D instead.
Dude, you sure have weird takes on Castlevania… Liking the original Adventure and not liking Super Castlevania 4 is like saying that MGS 4 is great and MGS 3 is shit.
I played Castlevania adventure, legends, and rebirth today. Rebirth feels like an homage, a tribute, to our favorite 8 and 16 bit era games. It is so far removed from the original game Boy game that I'd like to know the development history. If I had to guess I'd say they didn't set out to make Adventure Rebirth, but they struggled deciding what to call it. Would anybody have a problem if they just called it Castlevania Rebirth? Maybe. Calling it that puts too much weight on its shoulders. It would be blasphemous to some, like rebooting your a movie franchise. Castlevania The Adventure was a fairly low stakes title to "re-birth". It's strange how the title alone sets the expectations immediately. It's a good Castlevania game and we can judge it as such because the developers didn't overreach with a loftier title. Had they called it Castlevania Rebirth, there would have been outrage. And a lot of folks wouldn't have seen past that outrage to experience this genuinely good Castlevania Game. It's a strange title, but it worked out for them.
Somebody outta make the Castlevania version that never made it onto shelves that was being produced for the Dreamcast. Be cool if Nintendo tried to buy these properties from Konami.
A little information about the music.
They're actually using Konami's old Arcade sound font. It's what they used to use for many Konami games in the arcade.
Also, the "BARK" is Konami's old orchestral HIT sound. It was used a lot back in the day. It's very... KONAMI.. sounding.
Yeah I was trying to figure out what that was cause I recognize it from twinbees and it confused me a bit
Sunset Riders use the "BARK" very well too :)
Its amazing how you were able to review this entire game without having ever played it, being not in the years between 2009 and 2019!
Still salty that they didn’t put this game and rondo of blood on that castlevania collection that came out a bit ago
Agreed. I would also liked to see the follow up to Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow in there as well.

In the case of Bayonetta it is weird.
Ah well... that's why we have emulation...;p
@Tom Ffrench Can you explain? Why does sony have the grip on Rondo?
Rondo of Blood was released on another bundle called Castlevania Requiem, bundled with Symphony of the Night. So it would've been pointless to release it again.

12:10 i don't like this system, at least the system as it is in Adventure, where your starting whip is so weak
20:03 loved the chandeliers from bloodlines and stair-jumping of Rondo
24:50 ...yeah. the roar on hitting dracula's second form in particular was just...ugh.
they also use that exact sound for one of the enemies appearing in DmC so that's a bonus...but worse. is there a word for negative bonus?
I saw a number enemies have some DS/GBA influence in as well.
I wouldn't be surprised! I'm just not very familiar with those games
It's one I'd like to look at again more seriously in the future for sure
i like Adventure for GB too, quite a lot. i do like ReBirth as a game, but i agree with your views on it quite a bit.
also - the rubber ball place you called undodgeable is actually possible to dodge - the game randomly picks between two patterns for that one ball, and one of them is a bit easy to hit, making you able to proceed and kill the enemy. it's still a pain though
also, now that i think about it, ReBirth sort of reminds me of the cancelled 32X game - it even has a player sprite that looks sort of like Richter but with red clothing.
Think we'll ever get a remake of Legends?
I highly doubt it, though it'd be pretty cool. It's got some nice color tricks going on in the Super Game Boy version which is really neat
I really wanna play this, they should make another Castlevania collection that includes Rondo of Blood, Symphony of the Night, Chronicles and Adventure rebirth.
It's kind of insane how many really good Vintage-vania games there are that haven't been brought to modern consoles yet
@@vladimir9248 I really hope they release rondo on the Switch in some form, i've never played it.
I’m disappointed with the not-pixel-perfect thing because they could have forced pixel perfect rendering, even while freely rotating sprites, and it would have looked about a billion times better.
What is the easiest way to play Rondo of Blood? I just beat castlevania 4 and have a craving for more
Rondo is most easily played on Castlevania Requiem for PS4. I don't have a PS4 though. It's also on PSP as an unlockable extra in the remake in Castlevania Draula X Chronicles. And then of course on the old school PC Engine CD
They should add this for download on the switch
All the repurposed tiles in this game make me feel like I am playing a homebrew. A pretty decent one though!
For me it's the weird motion that's smoother than anything in actual 240p resolution could do, the awkward way some effects, and movement just don't lock to the pixels and go between.
Thankfully it's easy to emulate as it didn't use the Wiimote.
Plus I have the game, so I'm good!
23:00 you're so perceptive and intelligent. i value and respect your opinions.
Yes is good for fans🎉
I bought this for my Red Wii but shortly after proceeded to hack my wii and download WADs, now my Wii is not used and packed away in its original box for someone someday to find with Castlevania Adventure Rebirth loaded on it legitly.
That's gonna be one hell of a find
If a game can't be purchased its considered vaporware/abandonware and can be downloaded emulated. That's literally the reason emulation is still considered legal.
This is still infinitely better than Adventure even if it doesn't reuse the handful of Adventure's "good" ideas. It was really cool of Konami to remake one of their most disliked and poor titles in the series and make it far more akin to their best entries, making yet another amazing title for the franchise.
I liked adventure, a lot. But loved Belmont’s Revenge way more.
I was totally the same way. Belmont's Revenge is just too well designed
Sounds more like the Haunted Castle/Akuma-jou Dracula arcade game to me.
Yes, its a good remake
Now that i finished the video, i think im gonna slightly agree with you that the game doesnt have the identity of the Original Adventure.
I have this on my Wii, but it no longer works. There's absolutely no reason for this game to be unavailable on other digital formats.
This is the only 2D Castlevania game that I cannot complete hard mode. Its just too hard on level 5.
27:43 🐍
In all fairness the title has the word “rebirth” in it.
The lost media has been found, with a Wii soft mod and a wad.
Yeah, in my head-canon this game is actually a sequel to Belmont's Revenge and I'm actually playing as Soleiyu instead of Christopher.
What IF...Castlevania Adventure Was Just Uh Reboot To All The CastleVania Adventure Games(minus 3d Games,CastleVanis 2 nes)
Then let god damn u himself Jk even tho it’s a remake or reimagine of the game it’s still a good Castlevania non the less
And this is why digital games are a Bad idea
Can't wait to pirate this game.
Dude, you sure have weird takes on Castlevania… Liking the original Adventure and not liking Super Castlevania 4 is like saying that MGS 4 is great and MGS 3 is shit.
yes, its a good remake, og adventure is trash
You dont like Castlevania 4?
Into the garbage it goes that opinion. Terrible taste.
🤣
This game looks sweet! The SNES version is still my all time favorite game. Greatest soundtrack to a game, ever!
