The linkage to my cab heat/cool blend door broke after hitting one of America’s greatest potholes. Kenworth wants 10 hours x $165 plus the cost of more plastic parts that I’m sure are overpriced. My insurance was going to cover it until someone at Kenworth told them that they didn’t think that the “plastic” linkage could break by hitting a pothole. Looks like it’s going to be a very cold winter. 😢 I’m 100% convinced that the heavy truck Industry system is designed to bleed us bone dry until we’re facing bankruptcy.
@kimpaulk5221 That sucks because, depending on your truck specs, they're gonna have to tear your entire dash apart to replace just that blend door. Kenworth actually recommended that i replace that entire HVAC assembly inside the dash because of how fragile they are in my 2016. I absolutely refuse to pay $3k-$4k for that. I installed an inverter and bought a 750w ceramic space heater, and so far, so good until it gets around freezing outside. There are videos showing how to do it yourself, but it's a all day job.
I'll do the work myself if I have to after this Christmas run. I bought a space heater this morning for the same reason! 😂 And the rear sleeper heat isn't working because the fan control switch fried itself!! Gotta replace it when I get home. SMDH Mine is a 2016 Peterbilt 579. I sticking with my Volvos from now on!
@kimpaulk5221 Yeah, I bypassed my rear heater a few months ago because the heater core started leaking coolant pretty bad. Gonna replace it and see if I can make it through til the end of winter. Hopefully, I'll be able to get outta trucking soon. Good luck with everything
Man I have that issue in my truck have been broken for 2 year and it will be because that work at the dealer is SUPER expensive and do it by myself is a pain in the ass
At least the evaporator and heater cores can be replaced easily, without removing the dash and HVAC box. That didn't used to be the case with most vehicles.
@@amillionmiles1108 thank you sir that is exactly what I needed. I have our company's Peterbilt in the same condition as the one in your video and I could tell by the way things are arranged that there's no way to remove that HVAC without serious surgery. I will also need some of the vents the actuators operate. Are those dealer only? Thanks again.
@@ped832 Glad to be of help! The blower door itself may be available on the internet, although I would encourage you to look at the part at your local Paccar dealership, to make sure that you're buying the piece with the reinforced-plastic-gear actuator connectors. (The old design was prone to breaking, and is typically the cause for this repair. Paccar reinforced the blower actuator door with the latest iteration of the design.)
Is it normal for recirculate function to turn off when I use my defroster in a 2015 T680? It stays on when using the heat but as soon as I switch to defrost the recirculate function turns off and the defrost air loses some temperature.
Yes, this is correct. Most HVAC units will switch to "fresh," and engage the AC compressor as soon as the vent position switch is set to "defrost." This helps to reduce condensation and match the moisture saturation % to that of the exterior air. EDIT: You can "cheat" a little bit with the T680 controller by putting the selector in between "feet," and "windshield." This will keep recirculate on and blow some air on the windshield.
As it turns out, the technician who told me it has to be programmed, misled me. The servos will find their own "stops," when the key is cycled on/off. No need to program! 🙂👍
Just the actuator: Dorman 604-029. A local dealer should be able to get you the right part number if you ask them for: "90⁰ center blend door - for defroster"
THERE IS NO NEED TO REPROGRAM THE ACTUATORS. I WAS WRONG. JUST CYCLE THE KEY ON/OFF.
correct, been there done that. key cycle works fine.
Appreciate you for this!
Thanks for the video. We have a t680 with 1.3 mil and today something started banging in the dash. Guess I won't try this on the road side lol
What was it?

My blend door actuator isn't the problem. It's works fine. It stripped the gears of the blend door itself!! 😡

Thanks for taking time to do this video, much appreciated 👍
We're 60 years into AC systems.
There is no reason for a modern company to build something so badly it broke with in three years of manufacturing.
Mine broke, I'm looking at $3,200 in labor just to tear that dash apart. I'm being told it's a 17 hour job.
Seriously WTF.
@@vinyllpreviews9462 definitely take the time and do it yourself
Which one is for the front heat vents???
Thanks for this video, mine is broke down but i don't know which one is for front heat ,the back works
Thanks for the Video! make some more! how many hours did it take you to do everything?
Full BDA repair took 6-8 hours. Most difficult part is stretching the HVAC ducting to squeeze the new blend door in.
Can the bad actuators cause the HVAC module to flash on/off when the truck hits bumps?
P.s. I currently have bad actuators
Thank you so much for the videos it's very helpful..
Question where can I buy the plastic door ?
Wow bro that’s very informative video good luck and Godbless
Great video thanks

Just quoted $3,200 in labor to tear thr dash apart and get to those doors.
I replace the blend door and the actuators, it took me about 6 hours but save a lot of money on it.
Where did u get the door from? I can’t find anywhere that will sell just the door
That is insane

Are all the actuators the same? How do you identify them when searching Amazon so Amazon understands your search?
Yes, all of the actuators are the same.

Where can I get that door at or what’s the part number, peterbilt wants to sell me the whole hvac box 1400 bucks haha
Number is Mahle
F31-1170-06
For the programming do I need Davie4 or esa ?
As it turns out, the technician who told me it has to be programmed, misled me.

Do you have the part number for the doors
Just the actuator: Dorman 604-029.

Part numbers
F31-1259-06 panels door
F31-1259-07 temperature door
FYI there is a recall on this
I'll be honest... it was really depressing to see the work needed to fix my defroster
It's a much easier fix than it looks like! The dashboard is just like ~25 of the same screw, then the whole thing pops off.
@@amillionmiles1108 I'm currently struggling to get the blend door in now
Sorry but these newer trucks are all JUNK.
We have both old and new. They are all junk.
Damn shame you have to take apart the entire dash just to get to the hvac system .
Indeed. Really poor engineering here from Paccar.
You can change the actuators by just removing the corresponding panel. But yes to access more than that you’ll have to pull the dash.
Hi .so after installing the door and activator .just turn key on than off .with not connecting control switch?
