    The first 2:55 of this video is extremely important... Aron is completely correct and what he says could be the downfall of democracy and freedom. There isn't a straightforward message or group consensus for atheists and liberal thinkers... the very definition of being a critical thinking person is having independent ideas. We need to form a better and more cohesive message and partnership to stand against the single-minded right-wing culture.

    • @MrRezillo
      @MrRezillo 2 роки тому +4

      "to stand against the single-minded right-wing culture." How about standing against single-minded left-wing culture, which is far more dangerous because it's far more ubiquitous in this culture. You can see it in the "woke" mentality that rules most college campuses these days; you can see it in the news, and it's pervasive in Hollywood. College professors and dare to utter politicallly incorrect opinions quickly get villified by the spineless college administrations.
      Example: when Ben Shapiro was scheduled to speak at U.C. Berkeley, the college had to spend over a million dollars in security measures, with the speech being cancelled anyway for "security measures." Charles Murray was attacked when he appeared at "sedate" Middlebury College in Vermont when students rioted over his appearance; not his ideas, mind you, just his appearance on campus. This pervasive fascist mentality is coming from atheists, mind you - people who call themselves "anti-fascists while practicising fascist behavior, i.e., the denial of free speech.
      Aron Ra, whom I admire greatly, having watched him take on the likes of Kent Hovind et al, is mainly commenting on the Bible-thumping right-leaning yahoos he deals with regularly, but I suspect he's got tunnel vision and doesn't want to see the more dangerous and pervasive anti-democratic ideas coming from the left these days. I say far more dangerous, because they control intellectual discourse in academia, the arts and the media.

I would have thought by accident they would come accross things that would raise questions.
      I recall a street preacher group doing a prayer before annoying passers bye, I ask one and said the bible says NOT to pray in public NT Mathew, not even OT. I’ve been wanting to write a fan letter to him for some time now, because he just comes across as *angry.* I finally understand the meaning of the old saying that you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar. I never wanted to catch flies so I didn’t think much of it, but now I think it just means to attract others to one’s ideas. Again, his persona is too abrasive to become popular. What he doesn’t like about religion *is also true of secular institutions that call themselves “scientific.”* Ditching one priesthood for another *is never a good idea.*

      @@campfireaddict6417 I don’t need to be told in a condescending manner to try “to listen to his messages instead.” I have, and I’m not even his target audience. I’m a survivor of evangelical abuse in childhood, who just so happens to have never believed I needed a savior to save me from my “sin,” *especially one named Jesus.* What was being offered is known as *constructive criticism.* He was lied to about religious and mythological matters and *he’s clearly still upset about it,* since you have a problem with the term “angry.” The application of technology does not equal “Science,” as in the idealistic search for empirical facts. The application of technology *for profit* is being passed off as “science” so often these days, but the choice about what the best course of treatment for cancer (medical industry, for instance) actually *is* we don’t know because of all of the competing profitable interests. Our institutions resemble orthodox priesthoods that determine what even gets to be called scientific in the first place. Aron Ra is clearly a disgruntled person, and anybody who actually matured during puberty (and didn’t get stuck like so many of us did) is not going to find his way of presenting very informed *or* informative of anything, just pissed off. Really, most of what he presents and points out I figured out *on my own* by the age of twelve, so I think he’d get a wider audience if he had a different style of presentation. Constructive criticism, see? He’s smart as a whip, that’s for sure. It’s a social phenomenon that anyone still believes the Bible stuff, not one of lack of logical examination. The secular institutions are *materialistic* and function accordingly, subject to the same types of failings that religious institutions do: corruption. I really am a fan of his, and maybe his schtick is just exactly right *for his audience* which clearly wouldn’t be me. (I have *total sympathy* for his betrayal of *being lied to by his family when he asked them point blank for the truth.* The pandemic we’re in is one of lying at all levels of administration of society, including those secular institutions that declare themselves to be the authorities of “Science.”)

    • @rainbowkrampus
      @rainbowkrampus 2 роки тому +2

      Nah. People need food, shelter, water and a meaningful way to engage with society.
      Religion offers a simulacrum of that last bit by orienting a group to engage with each other around a work of fiction.
      Anything can replace the function of religion. A book club can replace religion. A weekly board game night can replace religion. Going to concerts can replace religion. Watching videos about why religious claims are hogwash and discussing the findings in the comments can replace religion.
      None of those things rely on the dissemination of falsehoods in order to achieve what religion does.
      We're a social species. We need meaningful engagement with society in order to continue functioning properly. The fact that people aren't always getting that engagement is a sign of a breakdown in our society not a sign that we need religion. We should be striving to ensure that everyone has equal access to society rather than prop up stone age band aid solutions to our lack of understanding of the world like religions.

There’s plenty of religions that teach people respect for each other and the natural world, give them a sense of community, and encourage compassion, all without putting them down as defective and sinful. Not all religions feature a crazy sky daddy and an abusive science denying clergy.

    Not related to religious claims, but Aaron Ra's claim that no one has a right to believe anything unless they can prove to _him_ that it is true, is quite arrogant. Aaron Ra or anyone else is _not_ that important to everyone.
    Everyone has a right to believe anything, including those that cannot be objectively demonstrated, as long as such beliefs don't come into conflict with reality and are not imposed on others.
    For example, everyone is free to believe their partner loves them without having to demonstrate to all and sundry that it is so.

      Someone who doesn't believe in wearing a mask and accidently coughs on another is imposing on them.
      Someone who believes in Noah's flood and tells children this is true is imposing on them AND conflicting with reality.
      Someone who believes their wrongdoing to another will be "forgiven" and is justified is imposing on their victim, such as the 9/11 attacks.

    At the beginning of this video, I want to know as many true things as possible, and exclude as many false things as possible. I got to talk to Aron about 2 weeks ago, and it was amazing.
    @ 0:51 Aron may look like a Klingon but yes, he is a teddy bear.
    @ 1:15 Aron will tell it like it is. He's the guy who will tell you what you don't want to hear, not to shoot you down, but because he want's you to succeed.
    @ 4:58 Living is a fairy tale get's people killed. I know this to my sorrow.
    @ 5:39 About 2 weeks before my mom died, we were supposed to go to Hell (Michigan) together. After the funeral, my brother and his wife took me there. I love that they took me, but I still wish mom had been with us. It was supposed to be all of us together.
    @ 6:27 One of the most insane things, that makes no sense to me is judging someone by the color of their skin. You don't choose your skin color. I have cousins with dark skin. Their mother was Mexican. They did not choose their skin color. Just so you know, my aunt asked me if I thought she was a foxy lady. Now, that is what you call a loaded question. I mean really, I'm not supposed to think of my aunt that way. Anyhow, I said yes.
    @ 10:46 I understand only too well where this question comes from. What I tell people, and I heard this from Aron, I don't expect to be any more bothered by my non-existence after I die, than I was by my non-existence before I was conceived
    @ 13:35 Just 3 years ago I was a fundamentalist young earth creationist. I'm happy to say that I was never a dominionist (sp). I believed Saturday was the holy day. I had no desire to live in a theocracy that would enforce by law Sunday.
    @ 15:28 In support of Aron Ra, all species, including us, are transitional.
    Just a fun fact here, My pastor, who I love (You can look him up, his name is Brian Danese), invited me to go fishing with him. I told him "No way, you're idea of fishing is too much work and I don't wish to spend 23 hours per day 6 days a week hauling nets. Now, that would have paid enough in 3 months for me to live the next year just on that income alone, until the next fishing season. One thing I tell people is life is choices. You look at the advantages and disadvantages and make your choice which set you want to live with. Yes, I've de-converted. Still, he was my friend for many years, and I have no reason to take that back.
