  • One of our favourite paddles. A great section of the Medway in Kent, with lots of Canoe slides. Music is "Deep Hat" by Vibe Tracks.

      @lawrencemartin1113 it's a lot of work editing the videos, but they are good memories for you to look back on in a few years time.

    Lovely video, thankyou for posting. I'm in the process of planning a trip with an overnight camp bit it's difficult to manage transportation back to the start,any tips?

      Thank you for your kind comment. In terms of transportation, it depends on the size of the group. If you have at least 2 cars with roof bars, you can set up a shuttle run before you start the trip. If you only have one car or are going solo, that's trickier. Public transport is going to be awkward and will probably involve a fair amount of walking depending on where you start and finish. Taxi is also an option. But in both these cases, you will probably need to leave your boat unguarded, which isn't great. Do you have friends in the local area who could move your car? Another alternative, if you have one car or are going solo, is to use a canoe rental company. Often you can arrange with them to drop you off where you like and meet you at the end. They will then do all the shuttling for you. But at a price! Hope this has given you some options to work with.

    Looks amazing, out of interest how long did the trip take you?

      3 to 4 hours depending on your paddling speed and if you stop for lunch. It's around 9 miles.

    do you need to remove the skegs on a flat bottom inflatable kayak?

    • @travelswithpaddles
      @travelswithpaddles  2 роки тому

      It would probably be wise to do so. Most of the slides are fitted with brushes to help support your boat and act as a fish ladder. I guess 9 in 10 times, the skeg would pass through these without too much trouble, but there is always a risk that the skeg or bristles will catch and one or both will get damaged. Note however that for Sluice Weir Lock you must remove the skeg, as this chute is a concrete channel and will shred your skeg.

    How long is the distance for this and can you camp on the way

    • @travelswithpaddles

      Tonbridge to Yalding is just over 9 miles and takes around 3 to 4 hours relaxed paddling. I believe there is camping and the best info I can give you is here... www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/uploads/documents/medway-canoe-trail.pdf

    Are the slides new, and for canoes? Neve saw them when I kayaked that stretch in the 1990s

      They aren't particularly new, but yes they are designed for use by canoes and kayaks.

      They are great fun. One of the highlights of this trip. Just watch out for the one at Sluice Weir Lock, which is pretty steep and the splash at the bottom can get you wet!
