I shot a 76 2 weeks ago and after my round I connected my GPS watch to the computer and noted: 10 of 14 fairways , no bunker shots, no 3 putts and no doubles.
Step 1. Pick a course with a low slope rating. Short rough and as little tree and water trouble as possible will generally translate to lower scores.
Par 70 or 71 can help too
I absolutely love the 360 triple track balls! They are probably my favorite to play right now strictly for lining up putts. As for tee height, I have these tees that have three lines on them. I love using this to make sure I get the correct height. I use the second line most of the time. I use the third line (making the tee it's lowest) when I need my "fairway finder" or if it's into wind.

To the point you made about shot placement on difficult greens. This last weekend I was watching the Evian Masters one announcer was talking about this one player who was always hitting her approach shots away from trouble. One of the other announcers made the comment that he made that observation also and had talked to her coach. His response was I thought her to be aggressive to conservative targets. She is an aggressive iron player. Thought that summed it up

My issue is consistency. Shot 85 yesterday. 38 on the front, 47 on the back. Distance controller killed me on the back.
