For whatever reason, I find myself looking through the various Euro comfort staples videos, and wish to thank you for adding your variation of the theme to the list!
    Thank You!
    Those look great!

Being of Ukrainian descent, we mix our meat or rice together. Our cabbage is cored and steamed. Freezing leaves fall apart, harder to roll from my experience. Sour cabbage rolls with rice, onions, and chopped up bacon with sauerkraut is my favourite…❤️🙌👍🇨🇦😊❤️ love all cabbage rolls… I have also tried them in a slow cooker, works great…😁👍❤️

My tribal Hungarian grandmother's recipe is very similar(just beef, no onions, partially cooked rice, rinced and squeezed kraut, cooked in tomato juice)so I don't know if you could really claim that as German, lolz But I I'll tell you one thing if you freeze that cabbage raw it will never get tender. I know because my Grannie tried it when she was too tired to boil and even though we baked it all day it never did get tender : (

I never use Onions or Garlic to mine! Just rice, Hamburger, salt and pepper! Then I use Home canned tomatoes with Water then Put Saurkraut in the bottom of my pan with the Tomatoes, also any small leftover cabbage leaves! Add Water! I cook them both in the oven or in A big pot on the stove! Works either way!

Where does the rice come into play? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Parboiled rice is added to the meat mix, prior to cooking, and finishes cooking as the rolls bake off.
Used to do a Lazy man's Cabbage Roll Casserole, half-cooking the rice, adding in the Tomato based sauce and sauerkraut, to whatever ground meat was on sale, and simply putting it all into a baking dish, adding some more Tomato Sauce on it and baking it that way. Spices as desired. Couple slices of that were a decent meal, and was cheap as heck!

I make my own version. I am German/Polish but, I prefer the Hungarian or Ukrainian way with the bacon and sauerkraut. I also fry the cabbage rolls before adding the tomato purée. That gives them so much more flavour. Each to their own I guess. I did experiment and my family love the way I make them the best. Sorry, but I’m not impressed with your recipe.

Sorry, I don´t like the way that the Poles make them. Hungarian way is better.
