I saw this when I was a kid but never saw the first episodes. I have watched 60 episodes in three days. I can't seem to stop! Great show. Best soap opera ever. It seems wrong, though, to call it a soap opera.....Thanks for this...
@@amymaclean7586 a nighttime soap though. Don't think it was sponsored by a soap maker though. Great that it was filmed. More possibilities for atmosphere and still looks good almost 50 years later.
@@jeffreyberkin9842 "Don't think it was sponsored by a soap maker though." OMG, the term goes back decades to the days of Monday through Friday radio dramas with recurring, regular characters. Indeed, some of the shows were sponsored by soap and detergent distributors, but anybody could and did advertise on the programs. Apparently the term was coined by someone in the entertainment / business press for any five-day-a-week serial, both on radio and television. Some were sponsored by soap companies, but in no way, shape or form were the advertisers limited to that one product. Your observation voiced in your Comment that "Peyton Place" was filmed [not taped] is spot-on correct. "I Love Lucy" is 10 years older, but because it was produced on film, with its proper, TLC treatment, it looks as good -- or better -- today on DVD or cable networks or local channels' airings than it did first-run on CBS. Half-century old shows originating on tape did not, have not, fared well.
Thanks for Peyton Place! I was too young when it was on telly all them years ago, my Mum used to watch it then. Even tho it's a bit slow in places I'm really enjoying it. I've come this far in 2 days, quite an addiction I've got going!
Don't intend to 'burst your bubble' but . . . 'just you wait.' Prediction from a true fan who 'went the distance' -- all 514 ["Thank you, 'SoapsNthings.'"] -- spread out sporadically over a year and a half. Storylines first couple years are downright and indeed addictive.
I absolutely loved when he said that. Let me see some people don't ride on others money, and prestige, and cover the truth for them. They have scruples.
. . . And NO summer reruns; 'fresh' material EVERY week, 52 weeks, for five years. The shows you mentioned -- successful, appealing and addictive as they were in THEIR own eras -- can't match that unique achievement.
Leslie is such a pompous ass. Paul is devious, ... Watching this for the first time. 60th episode in just a few days.. Its getting me through the cold and damp days of spring....
09:06 - 09:20 One of the few -- or only times -- we see Miss Choate in scrubs. . . . I hope Rossi's instruction to Betty to "go home" reaches Miss Choate in some manner so she doesn't chew Doctors Hospital's latest hire for being absent from the nurses' station, her final instruction.
Seems like with the intelligence Allison seem to have she sure can make wrong moves, like getting back with Rod. One heartbreak should be enough, to wise up. I follow the motto of the saying, "You knew it was a snake, before you put it in your pocket, again."
Paul Hanley should be in the looney bin too. Seems like he takes sick pleasure in all of this. He actually got poor Norman involved by driving him home.
What a great literary parallel- Hanley as the evil captain and Allison as the innocent Billy Budd- did the scriptwriter moonlight as an English professor?
More like a little lost lamb who seemingly doesn't have a clue the effect she has on men. Whereas Betty is a Rhodes Scholar in that department. Remember one of the first episodes Norman was practically 'climbing the wall' in anticipation and with frustration over the possibility of seeing her?

60 episodes in 3 days? Wow!
Glad you're loving it. It can be addictive. :-)
same here i am on a peyton place marathon
It is a soap opera. Nothing wrong with calling it that. One of the originals

Wow, incredible! I hope you'll keep on enjoying the show.
SoapsNthings Yep, still going strong! Thanks again. Looking forward to the next soap you have posted on your channel.
It keeps getting better and better. I can't stop watching!
Nice! I know...certain eras of the show were like that for me, too. :-)
Definitely looking forward to watching more :-) :-)
I like Constance's attentiveness to Mr. Carson. I'm happy to see that !!!
Each episode is so interesting!

I remember once that we were good friends.
I remember that. I also remember Lucifer was an angel once
🤣🤣🤣

Ryan O'Neal and Barbara Parkins get star billing beginning in this episode
before"dallas",before"beverly hills 90210",there was"peyton place"!
Yes. The granddaddy of all primetime soaps. :-)

You're welcome. :-)
Uncle Matt is suspicious of Paul Hanley. Very good.

Allison should go live in the Storybook Forrest.
Seems like with the intelligence Allison seem to have she sure can make wrong moves, like getting back with Rod. One heartbreak should be enough, to wise up. I follow the motto of the saying, "You knew it was a snake, before you put it in your pocket, again."
'He's been grilling me as if I were a vagrant.' Classic Leslie Harrington...
He is something else!
Paul Hanley is a wicked wicked man!!!
i agree
Very wicked. And sure that the character is closeted
Everyone was closeted then.
Yes, the fact we all hate him proves how well Richard Evans portrayed the character.
Paul Hanley should be in the looney bin too. Seems like he takes sick pleasure in all of this. He actually got poor Norman involved by driving him home.

RIGHT
Peter..maybe.
I watch this out of curiosity, and end up feeling like I need to slap everyone to get them to snap out of it.
Are Doctor Rossi and Doctor Morton the only 2 doctors in the town and hospital?
I don't think so but only ones depicted in this show.
Isn’t that cop Joe the guy from “Quincy”?
Why doesn’t Norman have a car?
He was 17 when the series started. Could be he wasn't old enough yet to drive.
In a previous episode orman asked his Brother if he could borrow his Car to take Allison out on Saturday.
I think Allison is a bit of a tease.
More like a little lost lamb who seemingly doesn't have a clue the effect she has on men. Whereas Betty is a Rhodes Scholar in that department. Remember one of the first episodes Norman was practically 'climbing the wall' in anticipation and with frustration over the possibility of seeing her?
Rodney makes me puke.
Paul Hanley is a lot of trouble. Reintroduced chaos into these plot lines. I don't like his interest in Allison McKensie.
Matt Swain is the best charactor on the show. Period. Followed closely by Elliot Carson. All the others are far, far below them.
I like Julie. Lovely woman. A victim of circumstances caused by Georgie boy.
Sue Ferris...That is totally a matter of personal opinion.
Dr Ed Rossi
That Matt is as irritating as Allison.
