  • ONLY WATER.
Hello beautiful sunshines! I'm Adela, an environmental engineer student and I tried no shampoo for a year, having mainly a water only hair washing routine.
Today's video is about the No Poo Method, where I discuss why I went no shampoo for a year and how I water only wash my hair, the challenges behind it, benefits, things to consider, and most importantly my outcome!
I recommend you to try the No Poo Method, and go no shampoo for a year, a month, or even a week! The outcome will be healthy hair, i promise! It is possible to water only wash your hair! Just give it a try! :)
    Be nice to each other!
    Kthanksbyeeee

Tip on shampoo that works extremely well:
Shampoo: Mix chickpea flour and water until it turns into a paste (its ok if a little bit watery), pour on your hair (I do this by standing outside my shower and bend over to wash my hair), and massage your whole scalp/hair/ends for like 2 mins or whatever feels good to you. Wash out thoroughly (there will be residue left when dried but you can easily shake it/brush it out when it's dried).
Conditioner (optional but makes hair soft and restores the PH): rinse with a mix of 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar + 1 tbsp lemon juice + 0.5 - 1.0 liter of water. Let sit for 30 sec and then rinse with water. Not thoroughly, just a little.
Dry as usual however you like.
If using water only and you get very greasy, sticky hair, might be because you have very hard water. I do and had no idea why water only didn't work for me. If this is your problem, look below.
Wash your hair and massage thoroughly through your scalp and hair. When done, rinse with lemon juice (1 lemon) mixed with water and massage again. When done, either don't rinse and rinse the next day or rinse right away. When the hair is dry, use a brush to distribute the sebum evenly through the hair. I do one part of the hair, wash my brush with soap, dry it, and then do next part. Do this as many times as you like.
This makes a huge different when struggling with Water Only.
Take care, stay safe, love our nature/planet and yourself!

I know, at first I could barely stand it! But I just take a teensy bit of baking soda when I get my hair wet in the shower 🚿 and gently scrub it into my scalp- it works wonders, then I use a really good conditioner & rinse my hair out VERY WELL(& cold water 💧 at the finish)as long as I can take it! Also,I never let it get tangled & I wrap it up when I sleep. So I guess I'm not really going over 8 days, just 8 days w/no shampoo!😊(sorry I took so long to respond- I didn't see your comment!)

I think the key is to manage the ph of the skin. If you have hard water an acidic shampoo might actually help things (ph 3.5 or 4.5). If you have neutral or soft water, then no poo is fine/great. Water softeners should go with the no poo method always.

Venezia, I use baking soda in the shower, I just pour it onto my "scrubby gloves"& wash! It makes my skin feel so soft and nice, I LOVE IT- sometimes I add a few drops of essential oil to it, then rub my gloves together and wash, it smells very delicious. I like lemon or rose oil. Don't worry about the ph level when washing your skin (body!)🛁😊 Oh yeah, I forgot to mention bar soaps, (gross!!!)they might feel nice at first, but personally, they leave my skin feeling so scuzzy, and they do not rinse off.(🧼yucky!)😆

[May 12 21:00] Felt a little heavy but looked surprisingly fine! Went about my day with no problem. Washed only with water(used a bucket so I could reeeallly soak up my hair and save water usage) - still feels a bit greasy inside but I won’t rush it.
[May 13 21:00] Washed only with water(used a bucket) still heavy with grease built up. feels slightly better?
[May 14 ] Super greasy patches here and there but put up my hair in a bundle and honestly people give zero shit about how greasy my hair is so whateves.
[May 15] Yes Poo day! - used minimal amount.
[May 16] hair a bit greasy but manageable. washed with water
[May 17] I still think my hair looks greasy but ppl don't mind? washed with water

Hey , I was going through a video on chloe’s channel where I looked at your comment which brought me to your channel.I was really curious about this no poo thing.I had been doing a lot of research since past two weeks and then I finally decided to just begin with something. If not no poo then low poo.But I had a few doubts , can you please help!!
    1) I washed my hair on last friday with normal shampoo and conditioner like I normally used to do ( I used to wash it once in 3 days )
Now , I water washed it today after a week.
So , my hair felt alright.I managed to remove pretty much grease and oil.Just , that my hair feels little flatter.
But , what I noticed was that I broke more hair. While brushing, while scrubbing in shower , and everything , I had more hairfall !!
And you said we need to brush more , but I am experiencing hair fall if I am brushing my hair.
Can you please tell why was this happening and what to do next or anything.
    2) Can you also tell how to actually go about it? What is your day vise process? How much interval you gave in between? How much interval you gave in beginning? How much now ? What all you used on your hair ? Baking soda ? AcV ? Clay ? Honey? Basically your schedule?
Like for me i would say
Day 1 : Shampoo and Conditioner
    Day 8 : water rinse
    N so on
    3) How to remove grease from your hair on days when you have something important, or when you need to go out?
    4) And since you aren’t applying shampoo and using lil warm water for water rinses , won’t it give you dandruff or anything else? If yes? How to overcome that?
    5) I also wanted to know what exactly happens in transition phase? You loose hair? Hair feels dry? Hair feels oily? What?

To be successful in no poo you have to get a brush and scratch your scalp to make it clean. Gently to remove the dirty of your scalp so your head won’t smell. Or use your hands to clean your scalp like the brush. The first time I used no poo I failed because I didn’t use the brush to clean my scalp clean. I do it every time I take a shower. I like not buying shampoo or conditioner. It’s better for the planet right.

I've been doing this since January and so happy I pushed through the oily stage. I found wooden combs were my saviour! Haha. I am curious if you had issues with dandruff to start with? I think I've figured out now that my shower water was way too hot and it's also winter here, which doesn't help being very dry air. I've since pushed my hair washing out to a couple of weeks at a time and only use Luke warm water and my dandruff is almost gone. Do you have any thoughts on this? Also do you use any oils for the ends of your hair or your natural oil is enough? Great video, subscribed. Much love from Australia xx

Hi, really liked your video! I'm slowly doing the same thing, mostly because I'm curious to see what will happen.
However. I think it's important to be clear with that conventional shampoo is safe and not bad for your health. You just need to find a shampoo that works for you.
The chemicals in shampoo have been studied a lot and are proven to be safe and effective. This can not be said about many "organic" and "natural" shampoo's.
Which leads me to that just because something is natural or organic doesn't mean it's safe. Uranium and cyanide is natural 😉.
I am sure you already know all of this since you study environmental science. But I wish you were clearer about it in the video. Take care :) 💚

Oh wow this is interesting, so your hair turns normal after a few days... what do you mean exactly by normal? like clean clean? or just not as waxy? Cause if i remember well, i think i had that issue as well the first months, that my hair would look better on the second or third day lol the problem is the hard water i believe, i got a filter at the end and it did really help i have to admit :)

I have e same problem. My dermatologist said that I am most likely allergic to an ingredient in my shampoo/conditioner. So after I was my hair, my scalp produces a bunch of oil and sebum to purge the ingredients from my scalp. Then once the allergic reaction calms down, my skin goes back to normal. That’s why it looks gross for the first few days, but then goes back to normal after that.

Great job on your first video, love your energy! 💕 Question. I started no poo about 3 months ago. Already went through the transition phase (it was gradual), but got to pretty well feeling good about my hair-I couldn’t believe it!!! But then I moved to a new city just a few weeks ago, and my hair is TOTALLY different and super crazy dry and nappy weird... like the sebum won’t wash off anymore. I am certain that the difference is where I moved the water isn’t as good as where I came from. Have you had any experience in dealing with ‘hard water’, and if so, what did you do to get past this issue?? 🙏🏼

@@extradela haha, sadly I had to give up bc the hard water in this new town was just making my hair look like a homeless person...dry and funky and greasy-I think all the residual sediment in the hard water here just ruined all my previous efforts. I JUST found out out though that instead of having to wait til we can buy and install a “whole-home” water filtration system, that you can buy SHOWER-HEAD filtration systems! So all I need to do is get two of those!!! Muuuch cheaper, and can get them at Lowe’s or Home Depot, install easily at home and good to go!!! Soooo... I may give the whole thing another go! My hair before moving here had finally gotten so soft and clean with the water washing / sometimes BS/ACV / sometimes Moroccan clay. I’ll have to go through the transition phase again I imagine, which I’m NOT looking forward to, but now I have hope I can start back!!!! I wonder if the transition time would be shorter this time since I’m already only washing my hair about once a week with the dreaded shampoo... 🤷🏼‍♀️ We shall see!! Thx for your response! 🤗💕

Thx again.. Wondering-are you still going shampoo-free?? Enquiring minds wanna know how it’s worked out for you! 😂

I kinda figured this out by myself Bc shampoo made my curl go away and made my hair super duper dry
So I started shampooing once a week and it worked well but every time I shampooed my hair would be dry for like the next 3 days
So I’ve decided to not use shampoo forever AND only use water.
But my question is if that’s okay to only use water, like not even baking soda or vinegar like just water? I know that water doesn’t take out the oil so will my hair continue to produce more and more oil and then it’ll build up OR will my scalp produce oil and then stop producing oil once it realised I have enough on my head, so that it won’t buildup?

Hi :) I think I've found myself an answer on the same question when i watched videos about medieval hair care routines here on UA-cam. Back then and of course many women still today COMB their hair from the sculpt to the ends with a wooden comb that has very small spaces between the spikes, if this makes sense. ☺️ The comb + the head massages with your fingertips during the day and in the shower while washing with only water will remove the dead cells and dust. The combing of course also distributes the oil as mentioned in the video. ✨ Hope it helps and you find the medieval and similar hair routines as inspiring as I did. 🌼🌼🌼

So far I've washed my hair about once a week for the last 3/4 weeks. My question is: how long did it take for you to feel like your hair wasn't excessively oily?

    • @extradela
      @extradela  4 роки тому +5

Once a week!!WOW!!! That's amazing! I'm still training my hair to get to that point 😍 so it depends on if you mean oily oily or oily waxy. Oily waxy is due to the hard water so I'd definitely buy a water filter and the results will be INSTANT!!! On the other hand, if you mean oily oily, that's most probably due to the diet and hormones (and to your hair still having to get used to it). My hair was oily only in the beginning (first month or so) bc I was used to wash it every single day before, and after that it was just waxy, so I realized my hair was okay but I needed to buy a filter for the water the remove the waxy part! 💖 Sorry for writing a book! @@Jiyokeru Try adding medieval hair combing method with no shampoo water only method ☺️.
I am not sure if this can help you but here's what I been doing with my hair after I've stopped using shampoo.
There's this medieval hair combing method in which you simply brush your hair everyday for a long time (by long time I mean at least 30 minutes 😅.🌿 If you have short hair then brushing less than 30 minutes might work just fine for you🌿) . First I divide my hair in two sections. Then starting with one section, brush the hair with a very wide teeth comb. After detangling I take a few drops of oil(coconut oil because that's what I have. you can use any oil you want) and apply that on the ends of my hair (because that part tends to get dry. 🌿 You can use more than few drops if it's necessary for your hair 🌿). Next step is to start combing the hair with a comb which has thin gap between each teeth ( is used for getting rid of lice). I just brush my hair from root to tip. Each section of hair for at least 15 minutes(you might have to clean your brush one or two times in between if it gets too dirty). And after I am done with both section of my hair the shine is unbelievable 😄(🌿 if you are someone who doesn't care about having shiny hair then brushing your hair every two days should be alright 🌿). There's no grease of flakes on the hair. It feels and looks like freshly washed hair. I don't use any other products on my hair. Simply use water for washing the hair. But I tend to make a bun every other day while showering because the tips of my hair tends to get dry if I wash them every day. But I make sure to get the roots of my hair wet and just massage them somehow with my fingers under running water 😅. Rest of the days I just wet my hair completely while massaging the roots a little.
That's what I've been doing for the past three months(it will be three months tomorrow 😅). And everytime I tell someone that I haven't been using any shampoo, soap or conditioner the surprised look on their face is real😁. By the way, I live in a tropical climate and I have thigh length hair which is bleached from the mid length to tip. Never had to deal with the greasy feeling neither do I have split ends problem with my bleached hair because of this medieval combing method😊. Never had itching problem. My scalp smells just like my skin ☺️. So give it a try. You can just search medieval hair combing method on UA-cam.

And after I am done with both section of my hair the shine is unbelievable 😄(🌿 if you are someone who doesn't care about having shiny hair every single day then brushing your hair every two days should be alright 🌿).
That's what I've been doing for the past three months( well it will be three months tomorrow 😅).

Hi. So I have been doing the no poo thing for almost a year now. My hair used to get greasy by the 2nd day after shampooing. No poo has helped to restore it and now no more oily greasy hair. But I have terrible dandruff! Any suggestions for the r this? Thanks so much!

I never had the dandruff problem before but i'm noticing it now since i changed city, i am not 100% sure but i'm trying to use lemon with water when im under the shower, done it only twice this far, will let you know if it helps!
But your comment was 4 months ago so maybe you can give me some tips on this by now!!!! ahahhha

I believe you experience dandruff (dry skin) because you wash with water that is too hot! Try water that is not too hot and maybe not too cold. Somewhere in between.

Hi dear Kirsten! Yes I was in a city with hard water sadly, but then when i would visit my bf in Portugal the water was better there, so i think my hair got kinda confused because when i would go back to Berlin (hard water) it was more struggle than before leaving! I think my hair started a bit to adapt over the time but because of the hard water i had to sometimes make also masks etc hard water is a real bitch i swear
How is your no poo journey going by now?? I'm sooo curious!!!!

Hi another way to do it that’s super easy is get a hair remover tool, it’s a plastic handle with metal wires sticking out of it that curve at the end. It does a really good job of getting hairs out of the brush. Then I use a toothbrush dedicated just for this, put a little soap on it, scrub the brush a little and rinse it under water. Super easy and works great! The boar bristle brush I bought came with a hair removal tool so that’s how I found out about it.

I have recently seen your UA-cam video about hair washing without shampoo and just with water. I was therefore wondering if it would be at all possible please for you to provide me with some very detailed tips and tricks with regards to how to go about this. I myself have very long hair (down to about my nipples), which is reasonably curly. I am more than happy to send a photograph or two if you feel that could be of any assistance. It would be greatly appreciated if I could please hear back from you soon.
    Kind Regards, Harry

It is impossible to #cleanse hair of natural and environmental debris without the use of a surfactant.
Sebum will always replenish. I’m not sure what your hair goals are for your hair and what you consider a “healthy head of hair” but….. only you can say what your goals should be
The bottom line is… YOU CANNOT CLEANSE HAIR with just water. You can #rinse hair with just water, but when hair needs to be cleaned; a surfactant is required.
