As an HSV owner I miss the new HSV's with V8's what a loss to this country. They really were the business.
HSV because it's not only way cheaper but it appreciates in value
Its already 100k more for a 2k17 model. (Aussie Dollar)
very few people are going to pay 200k+ for a holden, it'll appreciate to lambo pricing soon but even then lambos are eye turners
Not cheap anymore one gtsr even went for a million
@@terddydeaa6142 a W1 is a way bigger eye turner than a lambo nowadays. Unless you don't know cars
@@MegaUnavailableusern Its a special car but calling it a way bigger eye head turner than a Lambo is a fanboy comment
The Holden looks so much better. The platform is way more appealing than the BMW. Holden all day for me
True Aussie, rare to see a comment like yours mate. Thank you.
@@MuzzCat05 I was talking about old mates comment... and that's a laugh, a shitty beamer vs this W1 in craftsmanship?? Australia by far thank you.
@@MuzzCat05 I'll give you a like, cause you deserve it champ.
When these cars are ten years old, the Holden will still be fully operational, while we all know about BMW. The BMW will have issues with most of the electronics, transmission and engine. Look at Hoovies garage if in doubt.
@@mr.sunnyg5510 said by a bogan who's lived his whole life in Aussie junk cars. There's a reason Holden's are the common man car and more importantly there's a reason why they don't exist. Even the average Joe realised how poorly made they were, their terrible efficiency for the large displacement engines.
The problem with Holden was they were never able to move on from the past. They made cars thinking it was still the 2000's and ultimately that was their downfall.
The only reason you can defend them from an engineering standpoint is..well you can't. Bias is the main reason
i love the sound of these hsv supercharged v8's.
As a Ford supporter, I had to admit that GTSR W1 is an amazing thing. And to have a HSV out drive a 300k BMW, that's very special too. I'd definitely class it as a sports car instead of muscle because its all round capability. Making the GTSR's pricetag so high was a good tactic. The price will go higher on them much quicker than if they priced it at 120k, and yes you can get an F6 and make it 1,000whp for a fraction of the price but the GTSR would feel so much more special to drive and own.
Me josh. Me love zyzz. Me love ve ute. Me love josh. Me sik c7nt🇦🇺🍦🍦🍁🍁
The Barra will always be on top, something about commies, excluding this one, just feel so tacky, lame and boring, the XR6 and 8 look absolutely light years better than a commodore. Seeing a commodore on the street feels like seeing a Corolla or a Honda Civic, but I always hyped when when I see a Falcon. Australian carm Australian engine!!! Unlike the bloody Chevy SS/Pontiac G8.
i hope i can buy hsv w1 someday...
i hv holden hq 74 in indonesia..
A HQ in Indo? Fucking sick lad, how'd ya do that
Good on ya I used to own a 71 HQ Monaro which I wish I still owned cheers mate
and that w1 is worth $500,000 nowadays whilst the BMW is only worth about $80,000
In real life the Holden is so good on the eye
Pffft. Says bogan Aussies and pretty much nobody else in the world
@John Winzil hes not wrong
@John Winzil youre just a bogan that only knows holden
@John Winzil sorry mate but a came to see a bogan shitbox car lose to a german made car with significantly less power, downpipe and a tune and that piece of shit on wheels you call a holden is getting chopped on the streets
@John Winzil your *modded* hsv vs a stock bmw, and im pretty happy about my 980 hp 2020 supra with only a few bolt ons a tune, probably still costed less then that hsv, thank god holden arent in production anymore, vermin on wheels
Well if you could afford the BMW imagine what you could bring out of the HSV with 130k you saved.
Haha your better off buying a sv6 and LS swapping it, with that kind of money you could buy a proline block and literally be the fastest on the streets. Dudes out there making 6-7second street cars with that kind of money.
@@MTT-ic3ci but I'd be the bloke who owns a gtsr w1... if I had the money.
And I wouldn't touch a thing on it, it's already had it's day at walkinshaw.
@Jimmi Johnson sv6 thunder series II ECU is mapped for an HSV you can drop an LS3 straight into em so long as you move the battery, I did it on my mother's car to prove a point to my brother now he owns it haha. Used a L77 block and mounted some old LS3 heads from a beat up to it so I could put a SC on her but never got around to it haha. As long as it is a Thunder series II anything prior doesn't use the HSV wiring, much cheaper then buying an SS but each to their own you pick your poison.
@@mr.sunnyg5510 yeah very true haha the W1 is definately a more refined complete car and looks alot better too imo
@Jimmi Johnson yeah your right they are not the same but they are very similar the difference with the LS3 heads is you can bolt a supercharger straight on top, where is you cannot do that to the L77 heads, all the stroke, ports, and valve clearance are the same though I did have an over flow issue but that was just too much tension. It would have been alot easier to just dump an LS3 in there but at the time the L77 DOD deactivated was the cheapest option and only cost me $4500.
UNBELIEVABLE!! First car review I've seen where a HSV , or aussie muscle car at that beats a European car
Vasilis Constantinides
There are a few, amg e63 vs gts at winton, good viewing
J B nar mate. It’s a quicker car for sure. Not as luxurious but faster.
A previous generation HSV was compared at Nerberg ring to the M5. Touring car drivers at the wheel. The HSV also won there, german drivers and german track.
@@tosgem your dreaming if u think a hsv would beat a m5 around the nurburgring hsv does it in high 8min where the m5 is in the 7min
@@mushy1983123 I'm not dreaming. It happened in July 2000. The HSV GTS driven by Mark Skaife (Australian v8 touring car champion) at the Nurburgring took on the M5 and AMG E55 driven by Anders Olofsson, a professional European racer who finished 2nd at Le Mans in 1997. The HSV did the quickest times in a day of testing, by both drivers.
If Australia had that worldwide market for sports cars like BMW and where still making cars. Who knows how good they would be ? That goes for Aussie Ford's as well... I'm missing the Aussie Holdens and Ford muscle cars already..😣
That's why I bought a vy clubsport 7 years ago..and will never sell it...love it.
although this is merely my opinion, I am sure the companies had considered that and decided against it. I think one of the main reasons would likely be trying to penetrate a market dominated by European vehicles. There seems to be two categories of performance vehicles, european and US muscle type cars.
The former (European) is much bigger and appeals more to those with money (I think), rather than a muscle type car. I am the same. I wouldn't likely spend a lot of money on a high performance holden, or Camaro, or Ford, or Chevy, or anything else of that type, I would always prefer something like an M series BMW, or Audi R series, Porsche, etc. They just have a kind of aesthetic and styling that muscle cars, Fords, etc, don't have, and so they probably will never be able to capture that market, because it's not their market..
Easy choice 2 W1s for the same price as the BMW . W1 would be a better long term investment as the prices are already on the rise
that might be the case now but you're basically just guessing about future value.
The most advanced and powerful car Holden has ever made off the bat... don't fuck with it with AM mods... this car is unique and I envy any bloke who has one... like the ol saying goes, I just want one ;)
Spot on sunshine...
It's the fastest car ever made in this country
what ever win or lose , depends where you live , i live in australia and i choose holden cause’ aussie icons, that’s all
What an incredible machine HSV have built !!!! not only is it a collectors item and GOING UP IN VALUE, it looks and sounds amazing... then it goes on the track and BEATS the BMW M3, M5 and M6.. Not to mention it also beat the Mercedes C63 AMG, Alfa Romeo Giulia, NIssan R35 Gtr... Such a proud Australian moment, well done to all involved.
i doubt this beats the R35
Cykoid they do mate, go watch the video! Stunning vehicle.
so you're saying the HSV can kick the shit out of the Corvette ZR1?, a track ready supercar?
Cykoid not sure about the corvette mate, but against the amgs and bmw m's, plus the r35 gtr yes its quicker.
see thats where it gets interesting, the R35 is well known for beating the Corvette ZR1 round tracks etc... but it cant hold its own against something that uses the Corvette's engine that is considerably slower and heavier?... makes one wonder
At a hundred thousand dollars less.....nice work Australia.
The bmw is twice the price love the holden been following it here in the US
Only twice the price due to our import taxes. I know the M6 and the E63 as I live a lot of the year in the US.....better built, better drive and much better all round car than any Holden; hence why they are not making cars anymore!
@@warrenlp8536 also luxury car tax adds $57000 , $15000 tariffs, $25000 gst on a $300000aud car , w1 luxury car tax $29000 = $52000 more tax on the m6 in Australia
Original Holdens are 40-50 years old and you still see people driving them as every day cars. Never seen a BMW like that. They aren’t built better 😂😂
@@redbarrono633 and they will still make an argument why "German cars are quality" 🤣
@@redbarrono633 agreed, they can't handle Australian weather, made that mistake before never again.
1:46 what a sound
The Commodore's lap is the same one used in the video where you compare the HSV to the Walkinshaw VL
I'm a huge holden fan, however after researching it looks like the m6 is more "luxury > speed", a better comparison would have been the m3/m4 which have much better lap times and are cheaper then the M6/HSV would it not? even the m5 competition would be better as a comparison
J B fake news. Your lies are stinking up the forum clown.
J B don’t need to be butt hurt when it’s lies.
@@ChumpyChicken2 you think a holden can take on an m5 on the track? thats just absurd
Terddy Deaa absurd is how much you pay fir a car that is slower on the track. BMW = Bayerische Mist Wagen.

W1 what a beast
Well done HSV, greatest aussie performance car of all time
Fuckin bogan
You misspelt XY GTHO Phase III
@@Cykoid The mighty XY GTHO Phase 3 that got beaten at Bathurst by a 6 cylinder Torana, is that the one you are talking about?

@@Cykoid Do your research captain jurassic they were all stock back then, no mods until 1973 it was run what you brung back then lol, nice try though.
The w1 is a beast. I would much rather have that car over the BMW
Mr Mysterious and save $130,000 when buying the HSV over the M6 too.
What's amazing is that an Aussie built car with a tiny budget and R&D beats the BMW in pretty much every aspect of driving .
yes maybe in performance, sure, I can understand that, it would have been taken from the v8 supercar design and parts, no doubt. But you're missing a big part of where the money is, the styling and refinement in design in parts and materials. The interior of Fords and Holden's etc is a lot cheaper than a high end luxury european performance car, and it's obvious if you look at the details.
@@geofreyr oh I'm not missing a point at all. I used to test drive holdens and Fords for a living. I live in the city where they made Fords and I've worked on many cars for many years . Let me dispell a few ideas you have . The Holden was not using any race parts . The race cars don't use any factory parts is the best way to describe it . And in making the dash , the instrument cluster , and everything like it , both companies use the same technology . The fact that BMW actually produce more says one thing , and that's they believe they're worth more . Because it's not more expensive to build . And funny enough , the Holden has gone up in value over the years , and the bmw has gone down ... That also says a lot .
@@MrKrueger88 okay, no race parts but that's not the point really, the parts used for HSV are improved for performance or whatever, using the latest race-based proven technology and adapted for the road, etc. In a general sense this is how these W1 bits added to it to make it more than a Commodore would be made. I'm not necessarily suggesting they picked race parts off the shelf and bolted them on or whatever, if that's what you think I am claiming.
But the main point I was claiming is in the quality and styling of European cars and that costs more money - as the adage goes, you get what you pay for.
I have owned about 20 cars in my life I suppose, of many models, mostly Japanese but after having owned an M3, Ducati Panigale motorbike, X5 BMW, Range Rover sport (recently purchased for my wife), Mercedes SL500, compared with the other 15 Japanese or Australian vehicles, there is a big difference in styling, quality, and comfort. I recently had a 2022 Ford Explorer for a day, and its interior was cheap compared with my Wife's Range Rover. You're wrong by saying "they're the same", no way they are the same. Not even close. Everyone knows this and that is what you pay for.
@@MrKrueger88 Regarding appreciation in value over time, yes that is a curious thing that is hard to define, but something to do with market forces and here is my take on it; The Holden is much rarer, fewer made. At the time of production, most people that are really into Holden's, Fords, etc, don't have that kind of money (generally). Those in that higher wealthy bracket who could afford it don't buy the Holden's, Ford's, muscle cars, etc, they buy European performance cars - that's the market for the rich, generally, they like the prestige, quality, sound, everything, they are a different demographic than the muscle car kind of person.
Now, of those poorer type muscle car guys who love the W1 but can only afford a 10 year old Ford FG turbo or whatever, a small proportion of them get rich, and those are the guys who probably then go and buy the car they always wanted, the W1, and hence its appreciation in value.
The european rich guys, go and buy an F40 Ferrari and hence why there's not much of a market for older European performance cars, that and also because of the myth that "they're very expensive to service etc so no no, don't get one!".
@@geofreyr you are paying more because they are branded that way and you're buying into the hype . Yes , they are well designed mechanically , and they sometimes use better parts than other cars . But saying they are better than some of the best Japanese would be simply arrogant and naive . Any company across the world can use the latest tech to design and manufacture a part , the rest comes down to styling and prestige , and you pay a lot more for that . In the end , BMW aren't even very reliable , they leak oil and depreciate rapidly , and if you think that's great , then go ahead .
Doubt not the fruits of the master race. I think the BMW is a better package all round and certainly a nice place to spend some time in general.
Hows this even a choice, better looking, better driving and over 100 grand cheaper...
The HSV all day every day.
motoring australia - sponsered by HSV
That's what you guys said about wheels... why would a dying brand sponsor a car mag.
I’m sure Luke isn’t talking BS about both the cars. I believe the differences he pointed out. The W1 is a race car, with a fine tuned package from the V8 supers Cars. It sounds like a monster as well. I’d gladly rather the W1 for sure.
The lion will always roar !!!! 😎😎😎😎
Fuck yes I seen a gtsr w1 the other day they look insane in person hsv don well but still the BMW would be a bit of a sleeper if u didn’t know what you’re looking at
If you can’t get a BMW M6 round that track faster than a Holden, call Sabine Schmitz, she will do it faster in a van lol.
Idiot
Sabine couldn't get her Transit around the Nurburgring as fast as a standard Commodore SS ute auto lol
These guys are paid off by Holden to make them look better. Anyone with a brain knows they are slower in basically every respect once you get to the first corner
@@supaahflyy It has semi slicks and some of the biggest brakes on a production car. Of course it'll beat an m6 silly. They aren't even the best bmw's for laptimes. Maybe an m3 cs could be closer to the w1 if not beat it
@John Winzil here's Lord bogan again 😂 what you gonna do? Drive to my house and break down 300 times before then?
I have a moded E92 3.0 Twin Turbo that has less power but will do high 11s. That track must be oily as hell. And as for the 0-100kmh thats way slow for big no's - They reckon the W1 puts the power down better but how is that so if GMH are only claiming 4.2 and BMW 3.9? That W1 should be coming out harder than that.
hang on, I'm a BMW guy and E92 are V8's, the 3.0 TT was the F80 or whatever, isn't it? Are you sure you know the model you own? (or did own)

TheWretchedWorld
They just did, and with a car that costs $130 000 less than the M6......get over it. The HSV's platform is a lot older too.
chrisandshazza01 Yeah semi slicks and the M6 loses by only 1 second. Run the same tyres on both cars and see what happens.
chrisandshazza01 also you are assuming you are able to pay retail for the hsv which you can't. Good luck finding one under 280k.

The w1 sounds so much better and just looks the business
My 3.0 lt SUV diesel walks in a 5.1 0-60 why are the numbers for these two impressive ?🤔
60 kph is a bit different to 60 mph which equates to 100 kph, you would need a sundial to time your diesel dogbox to that speed lol
Bmw , great car for 'old men' , brute power fun factor go to the holden !
wrong, the M series BMW's are brute's, just much more stylish and comfortable.
R compound tyres make 2 second difference in a tight track like this one. I think even usain bolt will be considerable slower should he chose to run in thongs. BTW BIG holden and bmw fan.
STARZ1847
They aren't r spec tyres
ur uterus Pirelli torfeo r is track and asphalt only. The closest to having slicks that you can run on streets as compared to the beemers wet and dry tyres
STARZ1847
They are not r spec, go to CAMS website, it lists what tyres are classified as r spec, and nobody produces 20s in r spec
I don't know why they bother doing these comparison when they always say holden is better they look for faults on the other car and just praise the holden a little bias isn't it.
+salvadorian187 What bias? They simply said that on the track the Bmw's brakes were not up to it and hinted that the W1 doesn't have a launch system capable of controlling the 815NM of torque.
Seems to me like you didn't listen too well.
Ari Vat the m6 isnt even a race car its a luxury sports car the w1 is a fking track car clearly
One thing I can say about the two cars in twenty years time in reliability the Holden will still be alive and kicking…. Fact
I prefer the M6 as it's a wow factor and it sounds amazing
Hsv has always looked and sounded better than any M car

So with all that extra power the HSV GTSR W1 is still slower than an F6 in the 1/4, must be an endurance tyre they use on them
Proof? Im guessing you have seen a W1 and F6 go head to head down the 1/4 at the same time?
Mr500RWHP it's common knowledge the F6 is a 12 second car out of the box
Mr500RWHP plus no one I've seen or heard of that did buy one is willing to try, put them straight into the garage because they thought it would be a good investment. If I had one of these I'd daily drive it, appreciate the damn thing not wait for IT to appreciate.
Its common knowledge that a stock VF GTS is faster than a stock F6 down the 1/4 also...you are aware that the time they recorded in this test was on a slippery surface with a manual transmission...
now the excuses from holden apologists start

In the real world nobody who has the money for a BMW like that buys a Holden.
Pretty biased review, the GTSR is a purpose built road legal track car. The BMW M6 is not, it is a luxury car built and given to M-Performance to trick up. If anything price tag aside (I agreed the BMW is crazy expensive) the HSV should be embarrassed that a luxury car is so damn fast compared to its thoroughbred track car. Also I am sure that driver has a hell of a lot of time behind the wheel racing the HSV, get someone with similar experience in the BMW and it probably beat it.
4.2 only to 100? A BMW M140i for a measly 70k does it in 4.6. I guess wheelspin is a big factor
driver as well, british journalist have hit 3.9 secs with the m6 competition while journalist in australia have struggled to hit the 4.5 by HSV..."HSV told Wheels the W1’s performance claims were achieved in perfect conditions with light fuel" no journalist on record has hit the claims by HSV.

That BMW is $70,000 now, the w1 is $500,000 now going up in value.
Yeah the fkn GTSR
Very impressed by the W1. But you gotta remember that it's purpose built. The M6 is a missile daily, a fast grand tourer, not really a track car. Hats off to HSV though!
Still Bmw king of cars
obviously not, twice the price and quicker in a straight line but cannot put it into its lap times. Brakes and suspension simply don't cut the mustard.
Pay $300k for an M6 and it says a lot about the type of person you are.
@Don Boss WTF are you trying to say. You have successfully put together a pointless ramble. Nothing you said has refuted anything I have said, the BMW is quicker in a straight line however brakes and suspension let it down and "hello is there anyone home" Holden was there when this comparison was made and clearly the Holden was the better car after the track testing. It isn't Holdens fault that it saw closure in Australia, It was Chevrolet who was losing so much money in the U.S.A. that forced their hand with Holden.
Also, whether it is in Australia or any other country the BMW is way overpriced and isn't worth the extra when compared to the VF, but dickheads who love to think they are somehow special(like you) would pick the BM.
When I hear the loud rumble of a performance V8, I turn my head but I don't even notice the Toyota looking BMW go past and nor do I even hear it.
"A GT car" so what, it still didn't beat the VF in the test for track superiority. Wake up fool.
By the way have you investigated the status and finances of BMW, do you know how they are actually going at present, careful what you say you may end up eating those words someday soon.
@Don Boss A ramble that you couldn't find a logical answer for.
Facts win debates not unfounded dribble.
The evidence is in the video, trying to debunk it with a gratuitous jibe simply makes no sense.
@Don Boss Yup, the VF is the better car.
@Don Boss Imagine a car park full of Toyotas and one single M6, there isn't a chance in hell you could spot the BM.
Not only is the M6 a failure on the track but it is equally as boring to look at.
Holden Power
An engine is not a motor.
every mechanic in the world just scratched his head with that comment. What the hell have we been working on then?
@@mista2621 hahahahahahahahha. Nice.
300k for an M6? Are you on Drugs?
Why is he saying mega
I'd much rather have the BMW
Even though it's only worth 70k now, compared to the W1 at 500k.
*Buy an F6
*Drop 10K on it and smoke the fuck out of the W1
mate, no way, no comparison.
Clash of cultures? The Germans dont like fast cars and beer?
Also the Audi rs7 will humiliate the hsv
Step away from the Meth pipe Zippy. You are delusional if you believe an Audi is in the Holden’s league. Ignorance.
You list me after the fifth word. It's not haitch, it's aitch. You're a presenter
Manual vs auto
+Bucko's Gaming That's what he's implying, genius
bmw isnt even manual and costs 200k more... nope
0-1 Whos faster lmao
2010 corvette zr1 180000 . if you think this is a ripoff your on crack
so mad right now this bmw sack of a car is faster then the hsv gtsr..
I go with the M5 competition
@Jimmi Johnson No he prob has a job, and u buy holden. End of story LOL
Lets spend 10 hours on the Autobahn at 300kmph and see who has the most amazing car. I love HSV in fact actually own one but the BMW would crush it over a day of high speed driving.
10 Hours at 300kmh would mean you travel 3000ks mate. There are no Autobahns long enough. Now bring that pos German car over to Australia and lets see how it goes on the Nullabor mate.
Neil Petersen lol the Holden can’t even reach 300
[Cykoid] yes it can! 320kph to be clear.
Well that’s because it’s not meant to be a touring car. And lucky we don’t have Autobahn in Australia moron. I lived I Deutschland for 3 and half years and NO ONE drives at that speed for more than 30 seconds at a time on certain parts. 240 is a good speed in the right car.
@@ChumpyChicken2 it can? can you link the video so i can see it, i cant find one anywhere
BMW is 130K more expensive both cars a way over priced.
$300000 car in Australia tax $110000 = $200000 before taxes blame social democracy
Not even close, to compare the two. BMW is still in production and will be producing V8 in the near future, unlike holden. 👎👎👎
M6 has stop production 2016 the m8 is coming tho to be even faster
Hsv anyday
WTF is a holden!
GM product
A bogan heap of shit
@@chrishansen1282 no we call that a Ford
One is a luxury car the other isn't. Did the BMW have the ceramic brakes ?
Nice car, but it ain't a Falcon!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Long live the banter sir😊
Found On Rubbish Dumps F.O.R.D
That is the best HSV can do though ,the M6 is conservatively more an expression for road use ,it can be tricked and do away with that W1 .
This is entirely biased this video lol
It's 130k less though
with $130k turbo and re map it will shit all over the bmw and still have money to take your wife and girl friend out for a dirty weekends
While you trick the M6 I’ll just take the W1 to Harrop.
@@cptpharket9701 the dirty weekend is a good idea

Hsv are LS powered, the fastest engines in the world, yes around a track they are lack luster, but down a straight line and MPH nothing European stands any chance against these beasts. Yours sincerely a Ford man.
for the bmw m6 its not the car u need to know how to steer and figure it out
he's a racing car driver. maybe at they should have tested at monza.
locking under downshift would be hard to fix with brakes that fade.
Euro cars are a joke. Why pay so much? Performance sucks, styling looks like shit, reliability doesn't exist, and luxury you can get out of a Australian / Japanese / Korean vehicle for far cheaper.
You're opinion fucktard
m6 is a luxury sports car and that it does better, give them the same tyres and it will smoke the overrated Holden
I think your just but hurt... cause the 1.9 ton vehicle beat your fanboy brand.
Bucko's Gaming the m6 is just as heavy you idiot lol they put it against a m6 cause they didnt want to put it against a m4 gts or a m3 lol which are sports cars m6 is a luxury spec car but reviewers only test against what they can get their hands on at the time tyres make a huge difference tho its true
Bucko's Gaming typical gamer with a dirt bike who cant tell the differents from hear to here.. jesus help you
Butt* not but you even edited it and still fail
P.s i think you mean corvettes engine cycle due to the fact holden have nothing to do with LS an to the point most combustion engines have the same cycle intake compression power exhaust dont have to use google thanks kiddo now be a good gamer an be less salty oki doki
