I just realized that I watched through that mainly to listen to you talk to yourself. You kind of remind me of a guy who used to work for my uncle in that respect. My uncle is brilliant but surly and can be hard to work with. The friend "Thunder" was a really clever mechanic. He'd get stuff going that I would have written off as scrap. Just peck away at one system or another and keep going until it worked. The whole time, he'd talk to him self cheerfully and almost crow anytime anything worked. He'd never get pissy if something didn't, so he was just nice to have around. My uncle was easier to work with when thunder was around.
Three things besides another great video. When my classmates were listening to Alice's Restaurant. I listened to Elvis. I worked in the woods for years and had a two piece gas can. It had a tool box on the bottom, was Kewl. Last but not least,I learned the hard way not to lend a brand new chain saw to my best friend at the time. He told me before I met him he worked in the woods and assured me he had plenty of experience with a chainsaw. Like you said it weren't his... He burnt it up the first time he tried to use it. I gave him the lecture about using the proper oil gas mixture but he ignored me and killt my brand new saw. It was $500 back in 1980. That killed our friendship .. I wouldn't even speak to him and he died a few years later... I think we both lost out. Never, I mean son, never lend you chainsaw out.. Your videos rock, keep on doin what your doin . I do watch donnieboy also... Have for some time .
great video, and cool that you gave a shout out to donyboy! It was like watching myself work on something,, my kids and everyone tell me I ramble on about all kinds of nonsensical stuff and sing outdated songs and old commercials nobody remembers all the time too! But you are nowhere near my age for the songs you were singing! :) But, thank you! I seen a good condition saw for cheap but had a scored cylinder and piston, and your video helped decide to buy it! I have a rancher 55 and LOVE THAT SAW!! And since my son is getting into cutting wood and using my saw, I figured I get another one! Unfortunately they discontinued them! Don't know why?! Excellent saw! First saw I ever owned for , geez, maybe more than 20 years! And out lasted all my friends saws! And I work that saw hard!! Thanks for the video!!
Good video. I was going to rebuild a friends weed eater that needed a new cylinder and piston. Turns out it was cheaper just to purchase an entire remanufactured weed eater from Poulan, with a 1yr warranty for $65 shipped. The head/piston parts would have been $75 and the time to disassemble/rebuild. It's a throw away society and that kinda sucks. That thread checker is sweet! I want one
Sing it Brian! We don't have that brand of chainsaw but this will help tons. You have such a great imagination "G" I usually sing to myself but edit those out. Yup, the moment you hit dirt the blade goes dull "darn" Yup still watching drinking a cold one. Working on number 3. LOL Gosh, I put it next to my nun chucks. 4th one o boy. Takes me forever to edit, then the upload takes for ever because I live the valley with old telephone wires. WOW one crank Those TOYO OPMT's look wicked Now I can go to sleep. I will shut up now Thanks for sharing
Fricken mint! Woot! Did that start first pop or did you start it before you film? Either way, that thing is going brilliant! Yeah chainsaws are the last thing I let people borrow. But really, anything that has an internal combustion engine, I don't really let out that easy. hahaha
I would have cleaned out the crankcase, first with straight gas and second with two cycle. Then I would have hit it with my air compressor to make sure all debris has been removed. Then, I would have put some two cycle oil on the main journal bearing. I would also pressure check the case to make sure the seals are not leaking - something burned up the original cylinder and your first replacement cylinder.
been watching the hole time and im working on 1 way worse than you have got a husky 41 that work work new jug and clam shell wont match and im sitting in a computwr chair so my back hurts also
After you get it cranked, just let it idle for the first tank which includes an extra cap full of two cycle oil added to the tank for the first few tanks of gas. After the first tank you can do some light cutting. On the 3rd tank you can do a little harder cutting and after the 3rd tank - put it to work.
Tyler Lucas I break in a saw like breaking in a wife. With your method, you will not have a wife that stays around very long. Gradual and easy is my way and I celebrate our 50th anniversary next April. Each to his own.
hi have you ever heard o someone dropping a chainsaw in the river well my friend just did do you think it is ruined or could it be sorted by taking it all apart or something like that? any advise would be great thanks steve . ps its not ever his chainsaw :(
Anytime something Like that happens you want to pickel it.... Like a sunk boat motor.... You fill it completely threw the plug hole with diesel fuel....which is just a real thin oil....you want to keep the air off the metal.... If its a couple days.... You want to pour the PB Blaster to it!!!! Anyway... The next day.... You can either pop off the cylinder and really clean it.... Or you get two blocks and a pan and remove the plug and flip it upside down.... Let it drain out.... Flip it up... Pour a cup of 40:1 in really slow.... Shake it around and drain twice. Fill your new bar lube and 40:1 mix in.... You reached in and changed the fuel filter because you want to do that....the air filter....and put in a new plug.... It will crank and run fine. When you start it...keep the RPM's down and just let it smoke itself clean.... When the exhaust smoke clears....you fun it a bit..... It's all good!
Tell him toix his gas at 40:1 with the addition of basically 10% moonshine in your fuel ... You really need that extra oil if you want them to go for many years "These Days!".... Quite glad for your success !!!!
saw a mechanic at at dealership go to mash the hood of my new truck shut like that once brian and i freaked and stopped him i was not allowed to watch them any more that was years ago and i don't let them work on my stuff anymore i do it myself
---From day one , all mfg. of 2cycle engines recommend 8oz oil to 1 gal gas (16 to 1 ratio ). The biggest lie ever fed to the public , was the idea of a 40 or 50 to 1 gas/oil mix. 40 or 50 to 1 ratio , cuts the life of your machine by , at least 50%, and this is what it's all about ( you go buy a new machine ). I use a mix of 6oz oil to 1 gal. premium gas. If you live close to a airport, buy the 100 octane low/lead, your machine will love you for it , and will last a life time. Have a good day, and keep your powder dry .
I'd be pissed if someone packaged a Chinese top-end as an Italian top-end. And you forgot your safety glasses while installing those g-clips. If that thing pops off, it'll put your eye out.

Great story- "things" and money aren't worth losing a friendship. However disrespect, abuse, and just being an A-hole sure are!
I agree, never ever lend out your chainsaw. I have repaired many saws that the owners have put straight gas into.
As I learned when I was doing some brake modifications on my car, a 3/8-24 and a M10x1.0 are interchangeable. I think there's something like
It looked like you used a Permatex gasket maker (Right Stuff?). What type of prep and how difficult is it to replace the gasket if need be?

Great video Brian, you've helped put a little more knowledge in my noggin
How do you adjust the oiler on that saw mine is not getting enough. It's a 55 as well

John Clarke not true. To set the rings correctly you run a richer fuel mixture and run the saw hard.

Still watching at 36mins, just so you know Brian
I miss old gas cans. The new CARB compliant ones are a pain in the ass.
Nice Halloween prop
I have a old office chair the padding on the bottom is worn out and I can feel the screws coming up from the bottom.
What a pain in the butt!
Wasn't as bad as my old chair which had a broken metal spring attack my pants.

Funny on the cruises remark... Forget it baby you will be fixing fuel lines and everything else that is broken on those ships. Comment just in fun...
"Poof, I have compression!"
Cool.
Thanks!

Danny,Danny Partridge,is that you??
Daddy????!
hmm never notice his accent(french canadian?) Canadians dont have accent everyone else has one.. lol
just gonna rev the piss out of my freshly rebuilt motor, dont mind me
i don't think his boyfriend would approve of putting gasket maker on the head gasket.
