You have your bounce back Emma! Bright eyed and keen to get stuck in. You've been missed! Listen to your body when it stays stop... Stop! We will all still be here. Let the haters hate while the rest of us have your back and you have our support 100% . Fantastic to see your spirit enjoying the success.. acknowledging the oops moments and giving the middle finger to the total fails. 😂 ❤
I love how honest you are about everything and don’t just show it good sides… it’s so so so helpful seeing the down sides your helping me out a tonne when designing my allotment
Your channel is so different to all the other channels, it's funny and I am learning a lot from just what you are doing!! Thanks for keeping it real, so rare!!
I planted one zucchini plant this year. Silly me, I have more zucchini than anyone needs or can eat! I don’t even like cauliflower but I’m tempted to give it a try next year just because that plant is so impressive. I’d love to see the flowers. Thanks, Emma!
🙋🏻♀️Welcome back! Missed you, but totally understand needing to rest. Your allotment looks fab. Congrats on your cauliflowers! & your baby pumpkins! Cheers!
I share your excitement about the cauliflower! Such an achievement (one I have never managed -yet). Enjoy every mouthful. I’m sure he will taste amazing with any slug slime boiled off. Thanks for all you do.
The cauli is great. Even when going to seed a bit it will taste good. You could harvest it all and mince it into 'rice'. It makes a great pizza base with egg and some flour...really, kids wont know xxxx
I'm dreading leaving my plot to go on holiday, not just because it'll get a bit overgrown but my in-laws will eat all my figs, tomato's, melons and blackberries. Great update Emma, love the pumpkin arch 😁
I totally share your excitement about your cauliflower Emma, as I too was successful too and I was so pleased with the results we just have to keep going 👍
Well done on the cauliflowers, same thing happened to me last year! All ready at once ended up having freeze some, they freeze well, blanch for couple of minutes then plunge into ice water, drain and loose freeze. Don’t leave those other ones cos they will bolt very quickly, which would be a shame. I keep looking at mine, but so far no cauliflower, just green leaves. Love cauliflower!
The plant disasters for our place are: the feijoas needed to be chopped down as they had a really messy mould problem due to too much rain, the tomatoes last summer which for us is November to February had loads of green fruit but was inedible due to having no warmth or sun, and all the brassicas have been attacked by the abundant caterpillars
Amazing as normal for your plot. All my caulis went over this year but I fed them to the mother in law and they seemed okay. I learnt this year for powdery mildew spray with a bottle of 1 part milk to 3 water and it resolves the problem after a couple of doses. Keep up the fab work
Your cauliflower is certainly better than mine, I had some in my poly Tunnel but maybe I had too many close together so had to throw them. I had good harvest of peas and sweet peas on my archway. I do enjoy your. Ideology, you make me laugh with some of your mishaps, spiders etc.
You have to slice runner beans up the larger ones you showed are not too far gone even bigger ones can be cooked and eaten just remove the outer stringy part the slice and cook
Welcome back. Your pumpkin arch looks fantastic, mine still hasn’t got off the ground and are not doing anything. Hoping it’s going to be more successful next year! I’m also trying butternut squash and that is doing amazing. Love your cauliflowers, hope it tastes as good as it looks. Our French beans are doing the best on the plot so far. Hoping to get there tomorrow and do some picking
Hi Emma glad your back enjoye all your vidios ,love the cauliflowers, mine are still small at the moment but I was late planting them in got lots of beans though xxx
Wow Emma well done on the cauliflower, I have never grown them before so I bought seeds not long ago to try next year, your pumpkin arch is amazing, I find every year is different 👍
Maybe leave the biggest runner beans and collect seed from them for next year .some people believe that if you plant seed from where you grew it and saved it then the next lot grows really well as it becomes aclimatised to the growing conditions from the previous year
If I remember correctly you moved your pumpkin arch onto a different bed this year, so maybe that’s why it’s doing better this year, plus the weather has been not as warm and dry this year. As with all gardens who knows why something works one year and not another 😂😂
My tomatoes are getting red, I’ve picked some today, also picked a cucumber, another courgette and more rhubarb. Christmas potatoes are in, beets and lettuces coming on, had to get plug plants for my brassicas which got eaten by flea beetles, but had one floret of broccoli and a few cauliflower and red cabbage. Carrots are in, I’m hoping these ones will grow, also have peppers, aubergines and chilli. I’ve eaten all my soft fruits but the blackberries around my plot are ready now. My specialty is couch grass I have loads of it, personally I prefer bind weed! If you can’t put a video up could you link your past august ones, I am scrolling through and watching them but it will make me not miss you so much if my phone pings with one 😊 glad you had a break x
If you do not like just boiled caution cook till soft mash it with a knob of butter put it in a dish and bake it in the oven till golden brown and you will never look back everyone says you doing mash cauliflower mum just something different. The leaves I wash and chop with cauliflower as well and mash them also, Will you take the other one cut any not good bits off and freeze it xx
Oh amazing idea! I actually love cauliflower. I've made cauliflower rice before, which is where you grate it and then fry for a few minutes. It's such a great veg! And yes I'll pick the next one soon and bring him home. x
Welcome home Emma your plot looks great the cauliflowers wow your plot seems to do well when your not there the pumpkin arch nice one thing to remind you don’t for get to feed your crops it’s the best time to get a good yield a very good harvest is on the cards for you well done Emma 👏👏👏👏👏
Hi Emma your cauliflowers are amazing and time for harvesting. I always put y veg in salty water and that will kill all bugs ready for you to eat a clean veggie. Well done I have been gardening for over 50yrs and have never been able to grow cauliflower so I'm well jell lol
Hello Emma, I am so happy that you had the time with your family to recharge your batteries. At the end of the day family is more important than anything else. I had a birthday yesterday, complete with Amazon gift cards and I went to Amazon last night, and I bought a trellis, as y’all would say, I bought a trellis straight away. I was very excited. It’s supposed to arrive tomorrow. I do have some beans and other things that need to run up the trellis and there’s still time for them to grow this year. I’ll be able to put some pumpkins on my trellis. I’m very excited about that. Wow I think that you should make little signs with arrows to tell the baby boos where they’re supposed to grow and where the jack be littles are supposed to grow, may not grow into each others areas. I don’t know how many brains these pumpkins have so we can’t expect them to figure it out on their own where we need to grow so give them signs. I do love all the flowers you have this year. Everything looks so nice. OK bye for now. See you Wednesday.
But can the pumpkins read? That's the question isn't it? Haha! Thanks for the kind words, I feel better now I've taken some time out. Trellis sounds great, I love growing as much vertically as I can, great way to save space and it looks pretty cool too! x
Loved this update. Congratulations on the cauliflowers. How did they taste in the end? If 3 videos a week proves too much what about 2 videos and a short? I find it quite nice to watch the little snippet videos that some gardening/allotment channels put out.
Love your vlogs - just started watching- I have just been lucky enough to get a little bit of an allotment on our Narrowboat moorings - only been a couple of weeks but I have spinach, carrots, lettuce and cabbage seeds sprouting 😆 absolutely loving it and totally get your excitement lol xx
Love the vlog and those amazing cauliflowers. Last year my cauli's either got munched by slugs or bolted. This year I've popped a couple of vegetable net bags from Tesco over the white flower part and tied them up on the stem. So far so good as to keep the pesky critters off. We're off on holiday next week so using your advice as to what to expect when we return.
Your cauliflower looks good 👍🏾. You don’t need to cut the chicken wire u see your pumpkin it does mark but doesn’t damage the pumpkin that much. The rains have helped the pumpkin this year.❤
Your cauliflower looks amazing. Glad you enjoyed your break. Most things are doing well at my plot too but if it makes you feel better I've had 3 disasters at my plot this year. We've had so much rain here in Northern Ireland during July & unfortunately I've lost all my tomatoes to blight. Also lost my full crop of broad beans & peas to rats as my allotment is on a working farm in the countryside 😢
Oh no! That's a lot of disasters! My peas were a total disaster this year and I only have about 4 tomato plants which are not doing so good! Never mind, there's always next year! x
Your caulis look great. I love them pickled. Pack a jar with florets to the top, bring some vinegar and pepper corns to the boil then gently pour over until covered, let them cool then pop a lid on tightly and they last for months. Lovely with cold meats at Christmas especially. Try french marigolds near your carrots, seeds can be 50p a packet and grow in two week so still time to get a load out, nice splash of colour too. They keep the white fly off.
Pickled cauliflower! They're SO inexpensive here in Sydney at the moment, I grabbed 2 BIG ones for 2.50 each (1.30 pounds or USD1.7) but am struggling for ideas beside cauliflower with cheese sauce. Thanks for the suggestion!
What about naming your plot .... pumpkin arch allotment. I Think your french beans have gone over Emma, but leave them on the vine to dry fully and use the bean seeds inside to plant next year.WOW them Cauliflowers are amazing, well done 👏👏👏 you've done a brilliant job on your pumpkin arch allotment.PLEASE PLEASE sort out that flippin shed and put your tools in it 😂😊 So nice to see you back ,we have missed you ❤ but lm glad you got a brake,we all need a rest from things from time to time.See ya soon 💐💞
2 things about your pumpkins - Unless you only want tiny ones, try to keep just one pumpkin per vine. As having multiples means the nutrients etc are shared out more thinly. Also, don’t try to grow big pumpkins on an arch unless you provide hammocks as the vine WILL snap. Obviously smaller varieties like Jack Be Little, will be just fine :) 🎃

Ah thank you. They seem to grow quite well at my plot though. I think my conditions here and just so good for brassicas as they've always done pretty well! Carrots and courgettes on the other hand...
@@emmasallotmentdiaries Emma Darling, because of you I planted 12 store bought sprouted spuds, in about 1 sq M of unused space - AT THE WRONG TIME no less - because it was "whack 'em in" or the compost bin - and got 6 kgs with a bit of watering and a casually tossed layer of compost. My cucumbers are being eaten by chipmunks. They are taking a bite out of each one until they find one that they like. I picked 6 today that are 7 inches long and 4 of them have little bite marks in them.
If I had a pumpkin archway and needed to let the pumpkins through the net I’d cut a hole as you suggested then I’d tie a face mask or something to hold the pumpkin so I took its weight (if you know what I mean) and carried on growing. I’ve heard of people using bras to hold them!!!! That’d be one for Instagram 🤣🤣 👙
