  • Bada Khayal in Raag Miyan ki Todi by Pandit Dattatreya Vishnu Paluskar.
D.V. Paluskar was born in Kurundwad a small village near Kolhapur, Maharashtra to well-known Hindustani musician Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. He was only ten years old when his father died, and was subsequently trained by Pandit Vinayakrao Patwardhan and Pandit Narayanrao Vyas. He was also trained by Pandit Chintamanrao Paluskar and Pandit Mirashi Buwa.
Even though D.V. was mainly a Classical singer, he was also a very talented Bhajan singer. He sung such Bhajans as: Chalo Man Ganga Jamuna Teer, Thumak Chalat Ram Chandra, Payoji Maine and many more.
    May 28 1921 - October 25 1955 (aged 34)

Pt Paluskar ' s untimely demise at the age of just 34 deprived the world of one of the finest God-gifted voices ever. With only a few recordings that are left behind, we can just marvel at how complete a vocalist he was. Thanks for posting this recording.

Thing with artists is that they evolve with age.
Unfortunately we'll never get to see how DVP's music would've evolved. Same with Mozart and Jimmy Hendrix.

I had the rare p leasure of hearing dv paluskar in february 1953 at a private mehfil in dehradun. The tabla accompanist was a young tabla player Pr Kishan maharaj, and panditji after his singing got up and bowed to him in respect. After paluskars singing pt ravi shankar started playing sitar, and went for for more than two hours, and he literally caught the feet of kishan maharaj for his knowledge of music. After this mehfil dv paluskar came to our DAV college in dehradun and gave a memorable performance. and i remember there was pin drop silence among the students.Later on I heard Dv paluskar in nauchandi mela at meerut in 1955 or so.. and We lost him shortly after that. he was my first introduction to classical singing
