What I tell ppl is that any bait will work on the Hover rig- but only certain baits will do something special when rigged on it. You can fish a craw if you want- but it won't be much different than fishing it on an EWG hook- but if you put a straight tail minnow or a beaver on- now it does something special that you wouldn't get without the hover rig- it glides and spirals, or it hovers in place and barely quivers, or it hops along bottom in this odd way where it moves toward you more than up. But I haven't noticed it impeding things like a rage craw- it just falls slowly because it's not very heavy.
I know this was 9 months ago. But yesterday I spent two hours on tackle and reels. I used 3 different Hover Rigs for my trip out tomorrow. I hope I catch a good bag. I’m focusing on using my FFS and minnows. Wish me luck.
I was lucky this year and I was able to use some bonus $$$ that I got so I treated myself to your core tackle hover rig, weedless hover rig, ozark rig and the Tush rig - I have my share of plastics to use these with. I even found some old auger tail worms on ebay and I bought a couple packs, I bet the hover rig used on one of these old worms would be a good setup!! Great stuff Matt and thanks for sharing these tips with us!!
Matt! Give the 3.5” O.S.P. Mylar Minnows a try! They work flawlessly for this application and they glide like CRAZY. Not to mention the realistic presentation and that flash they give off they just can’t resist em🔥 Great video by the way!
Hey Matt. What about a nice size tungsten hover jig that swims away from the ice hole during the ice season for jumbo perch? I guide on Lake Simcoe and I strictly use small plastics. I’ve tried a lot of jigs but nothing can do what the core tackle hover hook can achieve. I like spoons that swim away from the hole that you can have the pendulum effect on the way back. I’ve even tried a weight in the belly, but it takes to long to get down to the desired depth once you pull up the first perch, then you know you want to get down there as fast as possible; just like the 2nd smallmouth that follows the hooked one scenario!! Let me know if you decide to try a tungsten version on a size 6-10 gammy or Ryugi, or decoy, or??? Type of drop shot hook or worm style hook for tiny cricket, paddle tail, nymph, small bug like plastics.
i found some from a company called jbros. they have a ned rig bait called the ball point. i used that in the 1/32 with a baby bass color and the fish went nuts on that thing a few days ago.
Hey Matt if you’re looking for the hunting action, try jackall’s drftfry, it has a built in soft lip to make the bait hunt. Hurry though they are almost sold out everywhere and prices are inflated because of the shortage.
Hey Matt well it that time here in Akron Ohio and I keep coming back to this video the lure you was fishing with your boys you gave inside on the Berkley stinger this got my interest looking at the small Berkley gilliy oh just got the keitech shad impact pearl and gizzard and some yum sonar minnow ready to play
Question for you Matt . . . . since the increments on these are so close in weight . . . I'm not sure which one to try 1st. What would be a good 'starting point' ? I'd be fishing for bass using 6-8 lb. braid, to a 6 lb. fluro leader. I'll be in 15 feet or less with a bit of current at times (tide). I'd be using 3"-4" size baits. Thanks for any info.
@@MattStefanFishing Thank You for the reply ! . . . I was able to find some at a Local Dicks Sporting Goods in Huntington Beach . . . although they're ready for a re-stock now LOL . . . I'll report back after I make a short day trip fishing tomorrow. Thanks Again
@@MattStefanFishing actually I just tried rigging the first one using the bass pro stick-o split tail. 3.5" in bait fish color. Looks like it should work well. If I can I will give it a try tomorrow
Wanted to throw it out there to peeps that fish herring lakes the Berkley Powerbait Maxscent Flatnose Jerk Shad on your hover rig is phenomenal, won a local tournament last week just throwing it bc they wouldn’t touch anything else
Hey Matt, have you been able to rig any zman products with your hover rig? It seems impossible to me, I thought they would be great because they float, but the elastec material is a PITA!
If you have time to answer this question, I’d really appreciate your opinion. On an A-Rig, would you recommend the Hover Rig or the TUSH? Every time I see TUSH, I think of ZZ Top. Thank you.
Lightest weight they had at dicks was the 1/16th the weight seems too big for some of my smaller baits what’s a bait that matches up well with the 1/16th oz size bc tbh I can’t afford to buy more

I like how you put that!
That’s teaching a old dog a new trick, never used the Hover rig but gonna have to give it a try. Thanks for another great video and info. 👍🎣
Glad to help
You will not be sorry they work Wonderful. I think I have tried them all with great success :-)

Good luck!
The 4 inch sakamata Shad is amazing on the hover rig. It has really good gliding motion to it
Yes it is!
Thanks for sharing Matt. Good stuff
Thanks for watching!
Still love using the Hover Rig, it worked really good this year and I need to put a order in to stock back up!!!
Awesome!
Thank you for doing what you do. I caught my 1st bass of the year yesterday on a black self tied fly
Awesome!
Matt as usual you nail it tight lines and good luck on your next tournament and God bless you and your family

Looking into it
I have done really well on the Yamatanuki, oddly enough.
Awesome
Good tips Matt 👍

Very informative, really enjoy the videos--keep them coming

Excellent presentation Matt. I really struggle with attaching Keitech Swing Impact plastics. The nose ends up so busted up.
Bummer
Love the hover rig!
Me too!

go with 3/64 oz size to start but even though increments are close in size each weight makes a big difference in bait performance

Always good stuff Matt. Do you rig the general in the middle or like normal...in the head?
Head
Matt try the Mylar minnow. Really nice with the hover.
I will
I was remembering this video and wondering if you could use your smallest head in a Beetle Spin body for crappie? 🤔
yep

tush on an arig
@@MattStefanFishing Thank you very much.
Hover rig is awsome.
Yep!
I am curious if you have tried the Geecrack Bellows Shad or Gill?
yep its decent
Matt, what do you think about the Calcutta 400S reels?
Haven’t used them
What about using a hover rig with a Slam-a-mander near the bottom?
Give it a a try
What hook size was on that 2 inch?
#4 hook

Try a 4” Basstrix flash trix or the keitech Shad impact
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching

Get some stinking hats for us to buy!!!!!!!!!!!
Ordered some but still waiting to get them so we can put them on the website
Better be careful Matt. Berkley might knockoff your hover rigs.
We have applied for the patent…
I hope it’s soon! You made a great hook, but that’s to be expected because that Guppy Head is one of the best finesse swimbait heads.
