Hey Eric, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy some of your work here. I’m a big train fan and seeing your reviews really keeps me interested. I’ve also subscribed to you as I look forward to more in the works. Yours, -Alik.
Eric, there is another train store called Henning's Trains in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. I have a friend there that sells trains, his name is Harry Henning III
Looks like they did a great job of stepping it down with out cheapening it up if that makes sense. Great video thanks for sharing hope you have a great weekend.
I purchased the original Vision Lionel Genset Switcher #300 when it first came out, beautiful engine with great sound. These looks pretty good, too, the crew talk is awesome. Nice review.
Because of the worm gear the axle of rotation is changed by 90 degrees. When the motor turns the worm gear it will then rotate the normal gear. But if you try to rotate the normal gear (i.e. push the engine) it does not translate back to rotational motion in the worm gear. The worm gear it self is blocking the motion in the opposite direction.
Thanks for the great review as always. Hopefully mine will be here in a few days. Kind of miss the 3 separate smoke units (the sequential start up was cool on the Visionline version)
I like your channel/show. For your comment on why some will roll freely and some don't. It depends on whether the motor is parallel to the axle or 90% perpendicular to the axle. If they are parallel to the axle the gearing will allow the motor to spin with the wheels. The frame type and most truck-mounted motors will do this. Most motors mounted 90% perpendicular to the axle, whether horizontal or vertical will usually not rotated back through the worm gears due to how the gears work. They use the perpendicular motor mounting for more powerful motors since there is only so much space you can use with parallel motors.
Eric I have been following you for a couple of years now. Your videos are a big help for me and I enjoy the reviews. Is there a minimum amount or a set amount for Patrion.
Eric, great sounding Diesel engine. I am still looking for a vision line model on eBay but I may go for one of these engines. The double stacked container cars barely made it through the tunnels. LOL. Thanks for sharing.
Eric, great switcher. I have yet to get one. I was also going for the UP graffiti scheme but no. I am now going for the standard UP. Thanks for posting.
The reason you can’t push them is the way they gear are setup. The they are multiplying the torque of the motor to get them to run stronger with a smaller motor. Also the gear train on the steam locomotives is much simpler
Hi from the UK :) that’s an amazing loco Eric!! A quick question, which I could Google but I will ask here anyway, what’s the third rail for in the middle of the track? My guess is something to do with minimising the amount of derailment if it were to happen.. probably wrong though.
I’m not Eric lol, but I can answer your question. It’s for power delivery. Whereas 2-rail models have one rail as + and the other as -, with three rail the outer rails are - and the center is +. It was done by Lionel trains and others years ago to simplify wiring and reduce the risk of short circuits (no need to have a break in the track for reversing loops), but has become something of a tradition these days within American O gauge model railroading.
Correct me if I am wrong, but Marklin in Europe does something similar. They don’t use a rail like American 3 rail O-scale, but they use a metal contact down the center of the track that brushes on the bottom of the locos pick up.
Very nicely done. Are the stacks with the rain guards (flip tops) compatible with the Vision NS Genset and do they flip up when the smoke is on and down when it idles?
That one is not very fast either, it is really slow from a dead stop, when I was a kid I could spin the wheels on my locos I guess they just don't make them as good as the use to. Thanks for sharing.
I don't see why Union Pacific got upset about the graffiti. They never clean their locomotives. The sides of the engines are so dirty , I used to write crap on them with a wet paper towel, like "NO FAT CHICKS".The last time an engine got cleaned on UP was when they cleaned up that heritage engine to haul the bones of GHW Bush to Beulah Land. If a kid is playing with a UP lionel and it jumps the tracks Union Pacific has a manager go to the kids house and make him take a urinalysis test.
The Nations Rail Road don't take kindly toi having their personal property trashed up with paint, The expense of it all, They want it to look just in the way it was manufactured.
Train Gang, the Genset is really nice, and 2 motors give it nice heft. Notice how slow this model runs? I have the Bethlehem Steel version. It has a simply awesome paint job! Even though this is a "cheapened up" loco, IMHO, it is a super attractive model. Lionel hit the ball this time!

Hell yeah!
What a great way to start the day watching an Eric's Train vid 👍👍
Enjoy!

Pretty cool video of your new model. This Lionel NS Genset locomotive is a cool model you got.
Love the genset switchers!
Awesome locomotive Eric! 👍
It sure is!
Impressive, smooth operation.

Yep
Very nice Genset switcher

I should say 90°

Thanks! Minimum support level is $1 per month.
Very nice sharp looking Genset Switcher locomotive Eric.
Awesome genset Eric!!!
own the genset in the Bethlehem steel fantasy scheme thanks Eric
Beautiful model! Very realistic

I purchased the same one I’m shipping it from New Jersey to my new house in South Carolina right by you I’ll see you in December I hope
Awesome model! I can't believe they cancelled the UP griffiti 😑!

Hey Eric, who weathered the last deep well car in that consist? Nice work. Actually, all the weathered cars are nice work.
I live about 30 min from the old steel stacks in Bethlehem

@@carlpeduzzi3780 basically the same principle just a different way of doing it.
Very nice Eric.
Those truck lights are cool

Hi Eric, great vids. I don't own any of those units but generally speaking if the motors have a worm gear it can't be pushed.
It’s about time broth
well youre right, it is great.
I like your reviews
I really see no smoke coming out of that Engine
Nice trains man. You remind me of David Harbour if he had longer hair
Nice carpet shirt.
I Love Your Channel
🚂 the train looks amazing ❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍. Wicked awsum
I’ve seen one of these yet on the New Orleans Public Belt railroad
Hey Eric I love your vids but I have 1 question, do you have a k-bar knife?
Damnit I want one!!! So cool!!
Those well cars just barely clear the tunnels don't they!
Yep!
Amazing engine
Awesome!
I just saw 3rd rail is releasing a p42 and other Amtrak passenger car. Are you getting any of it?
I’m really hoping that the next locomotive that I add to my roster is a genset
Also like your container well cars!
Beautiful.
One other difference is Lionel got the horse right on the front end of this engine, unlike the VL one.
Eric these gensets are so hard to find even at York I didn’t see any do you think Lionel will run them again ?
I really like the consist! What about the front-facing windows, don't those look crude/cheap?
Very fresh
I wish I had this engine for my ho scale train
Atlas Trainman makes a genset
THE Galaxy Railways 2
It’s a shame they cancelled the UP graffiti model. I really wanted that one
Yep
Nice
Hola buen dia excelente video abrazo grande
Nice engine
What does OBS mean?

It's supposed to be slow from a dead stop. It's more realistic that way. It's the difference between a model train and a toy train.
How do they pack the second motor in there vs. the original Vision Line version?
Why dont deisels have high cabs?
Surely the 360 view is more practical.
No idea. Maybe it’s a clearance issue on larger diesels
What's the pulling power by Eric's trains 50k get it cause he has 50k?
What exactly is an obs date
Like your weathering on some of your rolling stock. Nice model
Thanks 👍
How are you activating the second horn?
do the flip tops on the smoke stacks move if you close them while smoke is coming out?
How is the smoke unit
How do you rate the MTH Genset against Lionel. MTH $100 less.
That Black Body would take a nice graffiti paint job.
Horn 4 is the best

I did the same
The real ones have 3 catapillar diesel engines that would kick in when needed
Always worry about that crossbuck on these unboxings
See you got a railroad crossing installed
Is there any news on mth?
I love your new thumbnail style!
No prepainted graffiti? I am not bothered by that because I can just put my own tagging on the locomotive...

Nice...
I don’t see any smoke output
It look like North Southern and strains now where is SpongeBob SquarePants cab?? 🤔🤨🤔

NEVER GiVE UP
Ask any engineer on their feelings of gensets..........it aint smile related

I'll stick with n scale.....for now ☺
Toot toot
Probably run longer than the actual unit...lol

In real life these switchers sucked. Ive actually ran the 301 by remote control at Debutts yards
please don't make a thumbnail like that ever again
