To be fair, you can set your local cache to be quite large. I would expect that it would not download "over and over again". But that does not change the fact that there is barely any _baseline_ amount of data with the default install.

Airline pilot here: if you get a glideslope warning, add thrust. Flying down the glideslope is backwards when you’re shooting an ILS - meaning that you use thrust to maintain glideslope and pitch to maintain airspeed. *cue “the more you know” splash screen*

Yep it's all just about rehashed AC/COD crap, that's what the Corpo's like, instant huge profit on regurgitated nonsense.
And all the good sims/realistic games are all Early Access for 10-20 years because nobody funds them anymore so they are dependent on instant income, and some (not all, but some) devs have gotten kinda thinskinned complaining about workhours, garnering sympathy and personal donations, then don't release the game anyway (In other words, total hacks) which doesn't help the situation either (in so far as you described it).
It's not like it was in the days games got developed and released within accurate time tables, when we got proper simulators, albeit with issues as behooves simulators, at atmospheric prices.
Sea Power for instance, new game/simulator taking aim at replacing Fleet Command, they needed to go EA just to get the funding to continue, not their first choice, but at least they're giving it every effort.

In general, yes. As a consumer I won't touch anything that's brand new, no matter how excited people are over it. I won't even use the most current version of an OS if I can avoid it.
For the reviewers out there, they _have to_ make content based on Day 1 launch status. If they miss the bandwagon, the algorithm will drop their uploads into the toilet. If it happens too often, their entire channel will receive fewer front-page placements and choke out their audience.
Personally, I welcome the Day 1 reviews. I _want_ that miserable pile of slop to be what everyone remembers the game for. I think publishers believe that they can "get away with" a half-baked release because they are fully aware of that contingent that waits until after the game is "fixed" to buy it. To a business owner, they don't see a downside. They see a second chance to capture their audience. And that doesn't sit right with me. The Day 1 reviews should be their legacy. They should feel the shame and failure knowing that they released garbage and that everyone sees it as garbage. I want that decision to hurt them.

Yesterday...a fail, no question. This morning the Sim started up perfectly fine, I wanted to see if it was fixed....I had to leave for work. Came home around 5PM ET USA, around 5:30pm it loaded up, I actually had a very good enjoyable flight...(still getting used to new controls). But this was short lived, Loaded up the Beluga at Newark, the plane had no sound and the sim totally froze shortly after take off. Restart, new plane at JFK, again total freeze after the "zoom in" animation.
RESTART after 10-15 min. Chose another Airbus (the aircraft selection screen was a jittery mess), but I chose another Airbus. Takeoff from LAX was ok, flying fine for 10 min, then loss of all controls of the plane, no flaps, couldn't throttle down, once again, sim froze up. Decided to try ONE final time, I only got to the Free Flight Globe screen before the entire sim crashed to desktop.
So...yeah, this is real enjoyable! 😠

Calling this a pile of CRAP seems like a very uninformed criticism. I played 8 hours yesterday, not a single crash. It took months for msfs2020 to be reliable. Virtual reality is greatly improved, more fluid and the screens of the G3X, G1000, tablet etc. have much better contrast and are easier to read. The walkaround of the h125 in VR is crazy, you can open all the panels and they modeled all the components (engine, gearbox, accessories...) considering the cost of some 3rd party aircrafts I would say it's amazing. You didn't review and are missing a lot of the technological improvements that have been made and haven't really tested it thoroughly. Also, since you're bringing it up, I'd love to see you review X-plane..

As a member of a hardcore virtual airline that is 20+ years old, we all knew this would happen. Simulators, even XPlane and P3D, require 3rd party developers and extra content to become useful simulators. And as the SDK was not available to anyone but official partners, the launch could never be good. Server issues aside.
Also, to say "MSFS2020 is not much better today, if at all, from the day it launched" is a wild comment Jay. There is some amazing 3rd party planes and sceneries. Also, a lot of the issues that existed (admitedly for way too long) have been ironed out by micorsoft. But that is why 2024 is such an annoyance. MSFS2020 was just getting good, and now all focus has shifted to another platform.
Edit: All sims need 3rd party content to be good, has always been that way and MSFS2020 and 2024 have been cheaper and come with more out of the box than any other simulator ever has actually. Go pay almost double for XPlane and P3D, open them up with no addons and tell me MSFS2024 is horrible value for money.

After that, I found 2020 to be considerably below the expectations their hype had me expecting. Like you pointed out here, their static terrain is awful, and the moving assets are woeful.
I can't see myself spending more of my hard earned on another MSFS for a long time to come, I'll just stick with 2020 until they do shut off the servers the day after ther "10 years of support" ends and use x plane or something.

Plus the fact you cannot update the built-in navaids at all. In my country there was a massive overhaul of the airspace after the sim was released, so even though you can update the FMC in the addon airplanes the builtin ATC goes bonkers when you try to actually follow any SIDs and STARs. Then you're forced to use third-party ATC and traffic management but they're honestly pretty terrible and don't really integrate well, not to mention you can't completely disable the built-in ATC anyway

It's pretty damn accurate! I practiced on flight sim before my very first flight and I was surprised at how similar it felt to the actual plane in real life. Obviously the motion aspect is missing as I just have the logitech yolk, rudder pedals and the throttle, mixture setup. but in terms of how the plane handles and flies. Id say they got it pretty spot on. The "Government approved" flight sim we used at the flight school....that felt like garbage. I am yet to test out 2024 flight sim but definitely looking forward to it.
I would like to point out that I never used flight sim as a game to have fun and fly around and explore like most people would, I use it purely as training for actual flying in my spare time, so my experience of the game is definitely going to differ to most people who want the "fun" aspect out of the game.

Honestly, Flight Simulator 2024 reminds me of the stuff we used to get in FSX. While the launch was pretty bad because of the servers, I was thoroughly impressed with how you could select ANY airport to start your career in. Once I got my private pilot certification, I was blown away by the fact that one of the first flights you receive is flightseeing. I cannot tell you how much I screamed over the possibility that I could fly around Singapore (my hometown) despite it being a miniature country. I was also impressed with how characters have localised names, and how Microsoft knows that we have a flying club. It is an upgrade for me, and something I wished I could have done in FSX. I played FSX when I was 9 years old. This iteration of flight sim makes me feel like a 9-year-old kid again, exploring my country and seeing all the landmarks from the sky. To add to that, it is also impressive how Microsoft added so many different types of mission variations in the game. Again, reminiscent of FSX. Missions like search and rescue, red bull races, etc. To call it a soulless game; one that does not have expansions, is a lie. FS2024 is a holistic simulation game, and I am thankful that Game Pass has allowed me to try this masterpiece.
I would also say that FS 2024 is an upgrade to 2020, where 2020 feels barren. Once you take off, there is literally no anchor to hold you back to the game. Literally, I played FS2020 for like 2 hours and I stopped because I did not know what to do in the game (aside from free flights). So, I would politely disagree that 2024 is a pile of dog crap. To those who have played FSX missions, you might know what I am talking about.

Also I only have 100 Mbps connection, but it’s enough for an almost flawless 1440p ultra settings experience. I hate it, when developers shut down a game, that can easily be played offline, such as The Crew, but in this case it's obvious that it doesn't make any sense to complain about not having an offline mode and I don't think anybody can be that naive to think that Microsoft will keep the servers online forever. "10 year sim" - MS FS2020 -> For the last 4 years I have said 2020 does 3 things amazingly well. 1. Update, The update sim is where its at. Get ready to just sit and wait even with gigabit internet youll be grounded while they update. Update what? Im not sure. 2. Crash. I ask what it updates because it constantly crashes or freezes. There is nothing more fun than spending a few hours waiting on an update to get a flight ready and then the sim crashes while you are taxing to the runway. 3. Amazing flight experience. I wish I could say this makes up for the other issues, but with the math 66% of the time you are not doing anything but waiting or rebooting and waiting. I will not spend any money on this sim until they address theses issues, fall on the sword and let the community know they for sure are aware they should have aborted whatever decisions lead up to this launch, but 2020 felt like a scam. I dont expect to pay for something and only get a working thing 33% of the time. 33% is a massively failing on any metric possible.

You're SO celebrating FSX forgetting that its 32bit architecture made so that if you went to town with graphics details the sim would enter into the state of "too little memory" and crap on you sending you baco to the desktop, thing that was especially vexing when happened in final.
As a simul-pilot that started with FS4 (rigorously pirated, like was the norm at the time here, it came together with the hardware as a gift) I agree with you that had FSX had a 64bit version it would have ben great, but it never happened (thing that made me prefer FS9 more). Like I agree with you that FS2020 already had been stripped of all that made the franchise interactive already and FS2024 is even worse (and I plan not to buy it) because too net-dependent and I like to make a flight here and now when in vacation, with no net connection.

I understand the controversy with the cloud-based system, but I really appreciate it. One of the biggest criticisms of MSFS2020 was the constant, massive updates. With increasing resolution, and more planes, it just gets ridiculous to be downloading all that stuff constantly. I had 500+ gigabytes of data from MSFS2020, it was insane! And you had to livestream the photogrammetry anyway. I think their cloud-based system is getting more criticism than it deserves, because if it had launched with the data on the client then you wouldn't have been able to play day 1 anyway, you would still be downloading! Me personally, being able to jump in without a massive update every time is going to make me MUCH more likely to play in the future.
Playing around with it I also think the physics simulation has gotten a huge improvement. The aircraft behaves more like I would expect, it is easier to control, ground effect is properly modeled, etc. All of these things are not obvious, but I have noticed a huge improvement in how aircrafts handle over 2020. Also, the ability to flight plan in-game and the EFB system, the preflight walk around, etc. is all super cool and is a massive improvement.
These aren't things the casual player would probably care about or notice, but if you want to get into flight planning, and executing IFR flight plans, MSFS is GREAT for this! I love messing around with aircraft systems, as an acutal pilot would, to fly an IFR flight plan, something most people who don't know much about airplanes have probably never done in the game past the in game training (cue the "what the heck is a VOR?" questions). I'm hoping the different ratings on career mode get people to explore this side of flying more enthusiastically, now that you can flight plan, pull up charts, etc. all in game.
Finally, you are comparing MSFS2024 to MSFS2020 in its current state, after all of the updates. I think you need to keep in mind a lot of the things that are now on MSFS2024 were not in MSFS2020 at the beginning, and I see this more as paying for continued updates than for a new game. MSFS2020 has been continuously updated for 4 years, now there is a jump to MSFS2024, and I expect it will also continuously be updated for a lot more time. Me personally, I am already LOVING career mode and the weekly challenges. And I haven't even gotten to SAR or aerial firefighting, and I've only touched like 3 planes out of the 125 I bought.

Apparently, they somehow made it impossible for third parties to add it too. I didn't know this before I bought MSFS 2020. If I want it now, I would have to spend another $80 for the deluxe version. 20:28 no there wasn't a career mode. And the game definitely feels different than the 2020 version. You didn't get to experience almost anything of the new features and then come here to say it's not much? The amount of missions on the old 2020 is not comparable to the missions there are here now. The animals are another big thing. The fact that you can now get out of the plane. The fact that you can now visit the cargo area of planes and actually see a plane not only in it's cockpit. There is a lot of stuff that you didn't even mention and hearing you say things like "if you put them side by side, people couldn't tell this version apart from 2020" just goes to speak of how little you know both the 2020 version and the 2024 version which you didn't even get to experience.
I don't have an issue if you want to advise people against buying it. But saying objectively false stuff like that it's a pile of dog crap and it feels like a dlc for the 2020 of people couldn't tell them apart is very bad. You deserve my dislike.

I'm getting over 100FPS on a 3440x1440 with EVERYTHING in Ultra, including terrain lvl of detail at 400. The graphics are so much better, mountain terrain now look incredible. Animals like cows on fields, and are even animated, and I can go on and on but I got some flying to do. Navigraph on my PMS 750 GPS works awesome too. Waiting for the new OLED Pimax to be released, since my old HP VR no longer works. What surprised me, all the cities I bought thru ORBX still works!

The graphics are the same like in 2020 and the usability is even worse. Feels more like a 2020 Beta and not 2024.

Developers really need to stop releasing these half-baked, unfinished and unpolished games. I’m getting so sick of this trend of games coming out broken on launch day. It’s crazy how much of an issue this has become. Developers need to be held accountable.

Flight Sim X was good enough that we used it in my AFJROTC class in high school as a flight trainer, and after graduation one of our instructors, a fighter pilot vet, would let the people that did well enough on the sim take off and fly around on a planned flight path he’d schedule with a rented Cessna. Was pretty awesome.

It’s ok to be truthful and provide constructive feedback but ppl like u kill games and gaming companies, with your title. I too gave the game one star but I have updated it as the game is already improving and I will continue to update my rating as the game continues to improve.
