- In 1984, LaBelle recorded the songs "New Attitude" and "Stir It Up" for the soundtrack to the Eddie Murphy film, Beverly Hills Cop. Following the release of the film, "New Attitude" was released as a single in late 1984 and became LaBelle's first crossover solo hit, reaching number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming a signature song. "Stir It Up" found similar success on pop radio and as a staple in dance clubs. In 1985, LaBelle performed on the TV special, Motown Returns to Apollo and also as part of the all-star benefit concert, Live Aid. LaBelle's notoriety from performing on these two specials made her a pop star and led to having her own television special later that same year. Also in the same year, a video of a performance from her tour of that year was issued on VHS. During this period, LaBelle ended her contractual obligations to Philadelphia International and signed with MCA Records.

Too bad the Chipettes couldn't perform "New Attitude" alongside Patti LaBelle at the Pat Sajak Show in 1989. The Chipettes got their cover version of "New Attitude" by Patti LaBelle. They covered it twice in the 1980's Alvin and the Chipmunks TV series. One time it was covered, it was on the episode special "The Chipette Story", originally aired on November 2, 1985. Another time it was covered was on the episode "Help Wanted Mommy", originally aired September 13, 1986, which was 4 days shy of the Chipettes' 3rd Anniversary.

Histories strongest vocalist
Thanks!
She messed up her second verse and still killed it
What she mess up?
@@overwatchguy2218 she forgot the word 'did'
SO! That's a lead vocalist right! Ok
thanks!
2:18...if you didnt know Patti LaBelle comes out of the black church, you know now. Thats a big ol' "Holy Ghost dance" right there. She's not tryin to look cute...she's not tryin to make it look pretty for Pat Sajak's crowd...because she knows all she has to do, is BE HER..and the rest will take care of itself. Did they give her a standing ovation?...ok, then..let move on.
.....i have seen her live several times....and she is truly a manifestation of divine energy....and love the fact that she just gives herself permission to be as uninhibited as she feels while unleashing ....this otherworldly gift she has been given...and the way people of all different races and cultures just.....respond to her is such a joy....
this is beyond! clearly at least in this performance New Attitude took on the feeling of being born again! I know I've been changed kind of thing! and yes the big ol'Holy Dance let errbody know what time it is!
