Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an immigrant / expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful partner Mariana for eight years now.
Together Mariana and I, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!
See our journey to self-sufficiency / permaculture / organic farming living in Portugal, trying to produce as much of our own food planting vegetables, growing fruit trees as well as looking after all our animals, such as our chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, quail, rabbits and sheep - Shortly pigs too!
- Growing vegetables, raising meat and foraging on our cherry farm in Portugal’s Beira baixa, Fundão

We love this one so much… €120,000 for this 54 acre property, let us know what you think in the comments!
This would suit us perfectly. So much for so little.
I want it right now!!!!
this is amazing. What is we only wanted to buy half of this. Its such good value for money but its massive. to look after it
Whats the point if you can't live on it?
Your videos are just the best Joseph.
You really have me thinking about swapping properties and learning how to farm.
Wow, wow, wow!!!! Now that is certainly different Joseph. So much potential. 👍
Thank you so much Kathy, we had a really good day up the mountain filming this one!!! 💕
The music you've been using in recent videos is great, another lovely one Joseph!
Awww, thank you so much Jeremy! All the best my friend!
what a great country it is, that land is so gorgeous. and i love the festivals there, all people come together, having a good time.
It is an amazing country and I love it with all my heart!
Gorgeous! Wow, someone is going to be so happy there...still wishing it was for me. ❤ Thanks for sharing! Best to all. 🎉
Thank you so much! Yes, this could make someone a very lovely farm (or a group of people perhaps!) 💕
i would like to view next week, i have sent u an e-mail , p
Excellent, we look forward to meeting you! 😊 🏔
Beautiful property I wish whoever buys it a wonderful life there. It was so great to see you all having fun together as a family and the children all looked happy to be there too. Chloe has such gorgeous hair for such a young girl and CJ is such a lovely wee boy, they're both gonna break a few hearts when they're older. Mariana is definitely a good mum. 😍😍😍
Awwwh, that is very sweet my friend, thank you for the lovely words. Much love to you!
Thanx for the town tour. Hope you and yours are well. Hope to see you all this winter. Gina in Upstate New York moving to Portugal.
Hi Gina! Hope you’re doing well!!! Looking forward to seeing you soon 😊 💕
@@Farmerforfun Yes prepping and getting ready. I will contact you this summer regarding the olives etc. Hugs to you and yours.
This was like a proper travel show lol How easy/hard is it for non-residents of Portugal to gain citizenship/perm visa ? That festival looked amazing, I love small town stuff like this so much.
Wow you really have got as variety of properties. Something for every type of project! 👍🏾🥰
Hello!! Thank you, we try to mix it up a little hehe! How are you doing? all good I hope? 😊
Hi Joseph and André, as well as family and friendwe are lover of that life style, lover of nature, perhaps that is why we do not find our ideal property. we like the land as it is. not for profit, but, anyway Joseph how much would you reckon would it cost a bit of claring and to built a minimalist litle house?
another question: would it be possible André shows us his farm? he knows so many things about nature and former lifestyle...we would be very happy.
in the meantime we look forward to finding a less large propiety with a mountain as well. yes. thank you.
Hello there!
Stay tuned as Andre and I are actually planning to film his farm soon, he wants to show everyone his apiary set up!
I have builders that have quoted 30k for a small ruin to built up from beginning to end. depends on the finish and size etc of course, but I’m talking about a 30 / 40m2 ruin
This family is just lovely. We need more sweet genuine people like you
Thank you so much Suzi, that is really lovely of you to say!
I love this one.
Me too, so much!
many thanks would be a great lump of land mountain to buy question what are the rules for clearing it each year
Rules are that machines cannot be used after 11:00 and clearing of land should be completed before the summer. heathland is exempt, forestry is exempt, pastureland needs to be cleaned
@@Farmerforfun now that clears up a lot many thanks
Amazing property and thanks for sharing the cheese festival and your beautiful family 🤗
Thank you so much Celia! Much love to you, as always!!!
Ola Joseph and André , beautiful property am sure this will sell as it's great value 🍒
Thank you so much! 💕
realistically what would it cost to build a 4 bedroom house on this land assuming all permissions were granted
The largest ruin would cost around €65k for a total rebuild
That would surely make a person work so hard, am a lazy guy that works for me haha!
Hehe!
If I ever had the opportunity, this is perfect!.....❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Bless you my friend, thank you!! 💕
What is a elevation?
At the tip top of the mountain it is 750m
@@Farmerforfun thx for prompt answer
You are so welcome! 💕
Is it only me? Or can I see the top of this hill/mountain; with all the surrounding villages, as a spectacular spot for a large, white monument. I had a dream about this place and have been fantasizing ever since. I mean, if the area’s villages, not just the one named in the video, if they all came together and raised monies to by this land, wouldn’t that be a wonderful way to promote tourism and share their cultures.
Bring back the buildings in the mimosas forest to what they once were. A teaching community, showcasing traditional living. I researched and saw that mimosa trees were brought over from Australia. They then discovered how invasive it was. Still, there are many wonderful uses for this tree. It’s against the law now in Portugal to plant these trees, which makes it all the more special. You are right, Jospeh, it does remind me of a fairytail place. In my dream, there were goats and a few horses about. And the watermine Andre explored, was domed over with stone and a door, and the mine doubled for water, and a goat cheese keep. I remembered there were a few terraces with white bell tents/glamping sprinkled about (views to die for, I would imagine) and a white, snakelike- winding path leading up to the top, where a pair of huge, pure white hands ( think Jesus overlooking Rio de’ Janeiro) rise up from a stone base/building (museum?) and a level of black slating solar panels (catching light for power and night lighting.)The feminine hands represent mothers- Mother Earth/ Mother Mary and mother’s everywhere. They are raised to the heavens, a link between this world and the next. Anyway, I love this land and FYI, I wrote down what the name was for this statue/ mountain, place. Its was name, Santo, Santo, Santo. 🙏🏼
💚❤💛🤍💙 Good! Now I can let this go….. Keep it up, Joseph. Really enjoy your interaction with Andre… You balance each other beautiful.
Spectacular!
Thank you so much!
Joseph, I love to see you and Andre as much as the properties !!! ❤❤
You are so kind, thank you my friend!
Love cheese, but never had cheese from portugal. Is it similar to Brie?
Many what you see there is from goat milk of from sheep. Delicious. But not like Brie i think, which is from "normal" Cow's milk.
Soalheira is known for the goat-cheese.
can i build a community on the hill? it would make a perfect eco village :)
Absolutely, it would be perfect for this!
Hi Joseph, Andre, Beautiful property, absolutely loved this one!
i tried to get down to visit your area, however my caravan was too heavy for my motor and struggled to mid France from Scotland, i turned around after a 2mth holiday and returned to Scotland, next time ill fly down :) to visit your stunning area,
real nice land . . .thank you . . .
Thank you for watching my friend!
Wow. It’s a beautiful property! That’s scary to go into the Mina. I’m impressed by how brave Andre is. Joseph, do you think the camera will allow to fence the entire property to raise cows? Also, how far away is from Fundão?
Thank you! Yes they have no say on whether you fence or don’t fence your own land, cattle would be encouraged here, it is perfect place for it and personally what I would do! I wouldn’t fence them though, I would fence a few hectares and let them graze freely during the days when I was around, when I was out to town or somewhere I would keep them in their paddock
Thank you so much Joseph!! That’s a great advice. I will keep it in mind.
What a piece of, do you send ypur kids to school in Portugal?
Thanks
My nephew goes to school here, mine not yet as they are still too young. Chloe? my daughter, just got signed up for school in September 💕
@@Farmerforfun thanks for sharing that information
Huge land. Great place for privacy seeker. Build house in middle of nowhere. Someone comes and kills you. Nobody will ever find out you even exited. Years later some youtuber discover your skeleton. Gets a million views and plenty of money. This is perhaps what happened to the last owner who lived there 150 years ago. Cheers!
Hahaha! I should’ve told Andre to go deeper into the mine to find those skeletons! 🤣
C'est mon reve pour creer une communauté
This would be an amazing place for it!
Beautiful property 😊
Love the festival, proper family day out. Went to one in Brittany many yrs ago, just reminded me of that!
ahh really? glad you liked it my friend! 💕
Do you have to pay stamp duty when purchasing land ? Any rules for uk buyers
Yes, purchase tax is 5% and stamp duty is 0.8%
My god , I found heaven.
Hi Joseph. Lovely property!!!!! Has to be one of my favourites.
Joseph I wondered if you knew what’s happened to Jonny and Sam as they haven’t posted a video since February. Lots of their viewers have been worried. Hope they are ok?❤
😊
💕
👍
💕
Another wonderful video Joseph, amazing property. Love to you and your family mate.
Awwwh, that is so kind, thank you so much my dear friend!

woww we re interested
Please email us, farmerforfun@outlook.com I would love to help 😊
That gonna be a tall order 😂
Hi Joseph, who were at the festival? Are they mostly expatriates like yourself or tourists or Portuguese locals? I just wonder how I - an Asian of Vietnamese origin living in Canada for more than 40 years - would feel among this group? I've been following you quite sometime now and watching many of your videos and I really like them, all of those I watched.
Hello!
It’s a mixing pot of many different cultures here, but mainly Portuguese locals 😊 You would feel right at home!
@@Farmerforfun Joseph, thank you so much for your quick reply.
Can u hunt the wild boor on your land
With proper licensing yes, most definitely!
What an especially fun treat this vid has been, Joseph. Got to see this huge property with field, mountainside, forest, and hamlet to rebuild! And we got to tag along with the Marsh fam and friends to the fun cheese festa 😋. Thank you all so much.
Bless you, thank you for watching and being there with us 😃 💕
The kiddies are so cute, and miss Chloe is so talky 😄
pity you did not put a clip showing the borders of the property
Not an easy thing to do with this size property, the drone would have to fly to an illegal altitude to capture everything
Would all those mimosa trees have to be removed for fire mitigation?
No, absolutely not, they are a great little tree to have for your own wood supply and they give a lovely shade, as it is only a small little forest then they pose no risk
