  • Two observations about our trip to Germany: I never knew how fun the Autobahn is to drive, and I did not expect to see so many gorgeous new pens being made. The Pelikan Souveran 805 Blue Dunes looked curiously like the M205 Blue Marbled material but what were the Pelikan factory workers doing to it? Is that an M805 cap? Yes, they were putting a stunning Italian acrylic on a Souveran 805! The Pelikan fanboy in me rejoices to see this pen arrive in the states. In this video, we unbox this bird, talk about all its feathers, ink it, and then rub the nib all over the page to see how it writes. Spoiler alert: It's amazing.

    I bought myself a Pelikan M805 Suberen as a graduation gift to myself upon obtaining my masters degree in public health. It is in the blue pinstripe version with a two-tone nib. I love the look and feel of the pen. It was my top of the line pen but I have since purchased a higher priced pen, but the M805 is still my favorite.

      Yeah. There are certainly more expensive pens out there ... But, at any price, NOTHING writes like a Pelikan with that buttery nib ...

    Thank you for this video. I think this new 805 is a stunner and certainly the equal of the Vibrant Blue 805. I was hesitating whether to buy (yet) another Pelikan 800, and your video convinced me... So another bird has been added to the flock!

    I’ve been on the fence on acquiring a Blue Dunes. This video just pushes me closer. 😂 Thanks Tom!

    Nice penmanship. So refreshing after seeing other sites where the reviewer loves pens but obviously puts little effort into their writing presentation.

    Great review, Tom. I'm a Pelikan fan. I have five of them (so far!) and they have always been reliable. I've referred to them as not always being beautiful, but they are like a friend you can always count on. This Blue Dunes fountain pen breaks the mold of the standard "striped" models I have. I also have the Stone Garden, but it didn't have the "oh wow" factor I was hoping for. You've got a competitive price for this beautiful Blue Dunes pen and the free bottle of Edelstein ink makes this pen/ink combo I may not be able to resist. I don't know whether to thank you or just give you the pin number to my debit card.

    Cool video of a cool pen! Pelikans really are my all time favorites, especially the vintage ones... Did you have more Pelikan related videos coming from your trip to Germany?

    That birdie actually made it from Munich across the ocean and to your doorstep in Aberdeen? You gotta be kidding me Tom?

    Hey Tom thanks for the review! How do you compare it with the Custom 823?

    • @GoldspotPens
      @GoldspotPens  4 роки тому +5

      That's a tough one. The Custom 823 is quite a different pen with the vacuum filling system and shut-off valve. Nibs on both pens are quite smooth, with Pelikan winning with a smoother, wetter nib. I'd put them on equal footing in terms of technical precision and craftsmanship. The Souveran 805 is a bit more of a luxury pen, with a larger variety of beautiful materials and a bit more artistry than the Custom 823. If you're looking for a workhorse pen, either will serve you just as well.

    Beautiful pen. I think I'd still have to give the edge to the Vibrant Blue M805 though. This acrylic looks too much like a Noodler's to justify it for me.

    I would like to have seen this demo done in a medium nib. Maybe it’s just your style (small) that gives me the feeling that the nib wouldn’t suit me.

    An excellent review- many thanks for showing the wonderful quality of this pen. I have bought one recently and am delighted with it. Like other people who have commented on your video, I have a large (embarrassingly large!) collection of Pelikan pens but they are always the pens I go back to. In fact, I very rarely go out to work or travel without at least 1 Pelikan 800 inked up.
    The Blue Dunes is unusual, quite zany and has wonderful colouring. It makes a great ‘companion’ to the Vibrant Blue and the Ocean Blue 800s, both of which are in my collection.
    It is interesting to see Pelikan really coming out in new directions recently, with the 800 Stone Garden and the 600 Vibrant Orange. This new one is a great addition!

      Thank you! I agree. The blue dunes is a great complement to the other vibrant acrylic colors introduced recently. Besides the finish, the Souveran 800 / 805 is an excellent pen, as you know.

    do you ever think you will carry Yard-o-led pens them and Pelikan are my favorite pen makers ..

    • @GoldspotPens
      @GoldspotPens  5 років тому

      We have carried Yard-o-led in the past. At present, they have no US distributors that we're aware.

    The Blue Dunes is a “Special Edition “ and I understand that is now discontinued. I see that you noted the trim as silver, it’s actually palladium trim. This pen will complement my black-blue M800 nicely. I find Akkerman, Waterman and Pilot inks work well in these pens. The rhodium plated 18k gold nib is a favourite of mine but the absence of an ink window is a little disappointing. This is not a pen I will ever sell.

    Great video! Tbh, I found one just like this on the floor of my street. The pen is in good condition. I heard many things about the price but couldn’t be sure what’s the cost of it. I really want to know if mine is original and not fake. Can you explain how to know if it original please?
    Another thing, on the nib of the pen I can see “18c-750 BB”. But on your nib at 7:20 its “18c-750 F”. What is the meaning? Does it matter? I would really appreciate your answer! Thanks you!!🙏

      Congrats to you for finding such a writing treasure on the street! Generally, Pelikan knock-offs are not much of an issue. It's with Montblanc you need to be most careful. The "BB" is in reference to the nib size, which is, in your case, a double broad. It's a wide point that writes with a lot of ink.
