Niall Horan on Upcoming Breakup Ballad After Dropping “Nice to Meet Ya” | On Air With Ryan Seacrest

- Niall Horan is back! The former One Direction member stopped by On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, October 4, after dropping highly anticipated new single “Nice to Meet Ya.” The 26-year-old Irishman’s rockier edge comes after taking a two year break since releasing debut solo album, Flicker.
“I grew up on a lot of ‘70s and ‘80s rock and roll and I like to think we got it across there,” Niall dished to Seacrest of the new track off his forthcoming second studio album. “The song came about on a day where nothing was really happening and then I just started playing that big riff on the electric guitar and the song came from there and kind of wrote itself. … Sometimes the better songs are the ones you wait for.”
The “What a Time” singer added that while working on his new album, he channeled a bevy of "characters," including one of his idols, Elvis Presley.

Sssoooo. Who is the girl who break Niall Horan's heart ?
I do play a different character when I’m on stage or singing these records. It’s not a lie. It’s not me. But it’s an expression of me, if that makes sense. In my real life, my real day to day life there is so much pressure and responsibility to every little word I say, that it kind of confines me in this bubble. And, because of that I always lived a very sheltered life in the real world. Because when you take real actions in the real world there are real repercussions. So, on stage has always been the only place where I could allow myself to just feel something and react. On stage if I see a pretty girl I can express that. Because it’s a safe place. But in the real world , I kind of have to shut that down, because she might be 15 or have a boyfriend or she might be so pretty because she’s so dangerous and bad for me. So, I do put on this persona when I’m on stage. And that’s where the acting comes in for me. I don’t create a fictional tale in my songs. But I don’t write about my life. I love the use of metaphor. In that I find that the song can be one thing for me but it can also be one thing for the listener. I believe that the key to creativity is saying not that which has already been said but finding a new way to say it. And that’s the beauty of music. Because you can have a declaration in prose using metaphor and then manipulate it in translation in sound. I can’t say this line because it might be politically incorrect in the climate of this part of the world. But, what if I use an electric guitar to say it? You can’t arrest an electric guitar. Usher actually taught me in song writing to not overwrite a song. And from that I take a very drake approach to my records in that it’s very minimal. And the minimalism is intentional because the objective is to set the mood to express that which could not be said. There’s a feeling that you as a person get when listening to a record that makes you feel sad or happy or want to dance or want to sleep and I try to convey that. But, yeah. I tend to play a different character whenever I’m on stage. And that character is a heightened expression of me in a safe place of the stage of who honestly I would be in the real world if I wasn’t so sheltered and restricted by the responsibility that comes with what I say or do:

I don’t know though why a lot of my albums tend to come to around 18 20 songs. I don’t do that intentionally. Usually I have like forty songs. And I just try to pick the best songs or the songs that just seem the strongest in trying to get the story across that I’m trying to tell.
