not surprisingly, I'm surprised again over what I learn here. How simple and effective this method is. A mask, and the bokeh can be kept where it should be. Nice.
I have been following you for so long. I'm simply enjoying with learning so much. I would like to request one thing is that please add an image to your description. So we can easily practice and follow your instructions. Thank you so much for your videos.
this is so neat, and the method you used is quite unexpected I thought you would have to arrange those kind of bokeh circles manually across the image so impressive
No sé si podrías sugerir alguna otra forma algo menos laboriosa.
Is this technic better or when you use another image and use the bokeh blur on that image? I mean, the effect applies with the colors of the image (the blurry light on top of the image with the same color ), or its colors are different? I don't know how the effect is created outside photoshop, naturaly from lenses. Or it doensn't matter? That's always a choice too....
This is helpful! But this image happens to have most colour in orange, hence the bokeh is also in orange. I want to create orange bokeh, on a green background, eg. Christmas tree. How can I do that? Tried change hue of the background layer renamed to colour, but does not give me orange, for some reason.
Thank you for this simple & brief tutorial. I have 1 question though. How can we change the shape of the bokeh from round to say octagonal or even say a heart shape or any other shape?
The edges of the circles seem a little sharp. A quick image-search seems to indicate that's normal, but somehow, seeing them that sharp in the WIP makes them look more like regular circles than bokeh. I wonder if they'd look right with softer edges that blend into the background. 🤔
Jesus, when i first saw this method i tried it out and it worked fine. Since the June update i cannot get it to work. When i set the threshold to where i want it, i then press OK and my settings disappear and i get a grey with lots of noise on it instead of the few dots of white i wanted. Any ideas please. I have screen shots of my results if you need to see them.
I followed All steps but the bokeh points dont get bigger by bluring them more and more... Just less visible 😭 thank your for your amazing explanation!
I forgot to include the 2nd method to create a shape for Bokeh. 2nd Method Note: If you create a pattern without using the fill adjustment tools in the previous method you will have less control over how the pattern is displayed. Create a layer Use the custom shape tool. Find a shape you want to use from the Shape menu item. Create several different sizes of the pattern before saving the image of the pattern. Go to the adjustment icon > pattern. Find your pattern and click ok. This will create a layer with the pattern linked to the layer. Notice this pattern is not as random as the one created in the other method. Merge the pattern and the layer. Invert the pattern. Again this trial and error for your image but in the process, you may come up with patterns you can use elsewhere. To touch up the Bokeh create a mask for it and paint out any imperfections.
Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh#Origin Hi Jesús. I listened to a Japanese person demonstrating the sound of the word bokeh, and his pronunciation was: bo-ke, stacato! and with equal emphasis on both syllables. The ending h is not pronounced or prolonged.

You get straight to the point, no messing around, no unnecessary comments, just work done under 6 min.
Thank you, Alban! I like to be concise and get right to it!
Of all the tutorials I have watched on how to create bokeh this is by far the simplest and most effective.
Not gonna lie, your instruction is the most surprisingly simple, brief and best I've ever seen so far.
I'd never have worked that out on my own. You're terrific, Jesùs

Pozdrawiam z Polski, bardzo przydatny i prosty samouczek dla osób robiących portrety. Sporadycznie przydatny przy zdjęciach kwiatów i owadów.

I like your easy approach method. short and informative and useful.
this is so neat, and the method you used is quite unexpected
I thought you would have to arrange those kind of bokeh circles manually across the image
so impressive

I have cs5, I don't have the blur gallery, what can I do to create the next step instead of using the blur gallery?
This was a good video

Amazing!!!
How did you expand the bokeh layer?
Thank u so much
Thank you for this simple & brief tutorial.
I have 1 question though.
How can we change the shape of the bokeh from round to say octagonal or even say a heart shape or any other shape?
very cool
This is good!
Thank you. 😊

Great!

Definitely! Plus, they should be different sizes.
You expressed what I was thinking... liked the video and explanation though. Very clear and concise
I know little English but I succeeded, I'm very happy, thank you Jesús ...
Bravo

Cómo siempre *Jesús*, te pasas, te pasas, te paaasaaass... Eres un genio, Mereces un Grammy , Oscar y Novel.
I followed All steps but the bokeh points dont get bigger by bluring them more and more... Just less visible 😭 thank your for your amazing explanation!
I have been working on PS for a LONG time and cannot get this to work - when I get to field blur I see NO BOKEH??? Please can somebody help?
I forgot to include the 2nd method to create a shape for Bokeh.
2nd Method
Note: If you create a pattern without using the fill adjustment tools in the previous method you will have less control over how the pattern is displayed.
Create a layer
Use the custom shape tool.
Or of course you could just add circular filled shapes, blur them and add an inner glow. That way you can put them precisely where you want them.
Everything goes smoothly until I turn the bokeh layer into screen but all it does is turn the whole background white??
Didn't work for me. Got to field blur step and no matter what I did with any slider, nothing showed up. Totally black screen.
A Hallmark moment.
i think the BGM is a little bit too loud

Hi Jesús. I listened to a Japanese person demonstrating the sound of the word bokeh, and his pronunciation was: bo-ke, stacato! and with equal emphasis on both syllables. The ending h is not pronounced or prolonged.
How to achieve bokeh to be different sizes? In your tutorial, they are all of the same size and it looks unnatural.
I have this question too. Bokeh is usually varying sizes of circles
Duplicate the layer and scale it 😉
Jesus you should rename this video to Bokeh Circles.
No no no no no. BOKEA is not a Bubble. Come on now.
Or you can do it the right way, in camera, takes no time at all and save you processing time on the end.
Delete running text on your video please very irritating
Brilliant!!
