jessie franks aquaponics I have the same quad mine seems to have a rattle noise at idle but when giving it gas it goes away has plenty of power I am wondering if my timing chain is loose ? Or maybe need a tensioner how do the tensioner work ? Just put it in and it self adjusts? Thank you in advance
Once I pulled flywheel off and replaced key, the timing was good. I have no reason to advance it for performance. Has no title and I use it for chores mostly and some fun.
Thabks that helped alot u said tge key shered on the flywheel?? I was rideing mine the other day herd a crunch and now it wont start was hard to start and then wouldnt move very well now it wont start at all never thought to check timeing thanks for the video and ur right theres not to maney videos on these quads i kinda like it its a little sporty so i can play with the kids but the. I can also use it to work with nice quad
@@InvincibleRain thabks there all good the key way chered off i was 90 degrees off on the fly wheel pulled it off made a new key still hard to start with the battery and wont shut off with the kill switch or key
@@craigpirl918 I'd have could be a few things, you will just need a meter to test ohms for the switch circuits. Could be a relay sticking but I haven't looked at this quads wiring diagram to see what's on that circuit.
I could be bad at explaining it. There are a couple marks, one for advanced timing. The cam gears won't always line up, just have to during assembly. I took the top end off but I didn't need to. Just to make sure there wasn't damage.
There are 2 timing marks, one for advanced timing. The other marks on cam gears only need aligned on install. I took top end off to check for damage since the previous owner said 4 other owners couldn't get it fixed!
the marks should be lined up with the hole right next to the pull start where you can see the mark without removing the cover completely. It is not supposed to be at 12 o'clock. I think that's been a misconception. It's hard to see it though with a timing light. We had to take the cover off and paint the marks in order to see it with the timing light. I hope that helps.
The Polaris 500 motors have a factory problem, they made the cam shafts with soft steel. The lobes wear very fast, you have to replace the cam shaft to fix the problem, also recommend to change rocker arms too. It's about $150 to replace.
Mike Flynn I read that before and thought that was insane so many people had that issue. How could a company let that sort of thing slip through the cracks. I'm hoping they still sell them when mine wears out.
Joseph yuma yep, sheared key. I changed all the fluids, put on some missing bolts and gaskets. I want to put a pull start on it plus a new cover since its cracked
Just replaced the flywheel and stator. The plug is got a good spark and I can squirt gas in the plug hole but won't even try to start. I did get it to start one to ime by doing that.. also the motor is really hard to turn over. Could it have got out of time when I replaced the stator and flywheel? I lined up the woodruff key on the flywheel. Any thoughts?
this is awesome! it seems like its kinda hard to find anything on polaris 500 engines. and this answered my question perfectly. the manual i have is pretty vague
Yea, my wording is jumbled after going back a year or so and watching it but I saw another Polaris for sale near me, same one $600 same problem most likely. That's not a bad price for a big quad I think. Mines leaking gas from somewhere now. Haven't had time to check where.
I am curious if anyone has ran into the problem I’m having with my 500 Polaris sportsman it keeps blowing head gaskets I’ve had the head redone , the cylinder block is not warped I replaced the gasket four times and torqued down to the correct specs and in order, yet it keeps blowing a head gasket ! anybody else have this problem?
Thank you for your useful information on the the Polaris timing.
The timing mark on the flywheel is how you get top dead center on the piston😎
Thank you
the T stands for total top dead center. so if you line it up and then line your cam up you are timed.
that's right! gotta button it up and start it then put new gaskets if she starts. i
+InvincibleRain indeed get them gaskets lol

a question has to be in letter t to put it on time or in the 3 rallitas it has as a mark
InvincibleRain how tight is the timming chan suppose to be with no tensioner in?

Just pop the cover off and see. Hope you didn't bend valves.

Why is it that those timing Mark's are off, or is that just me

@@anaintx yes, I couldn't barely see the marks either. Hopefully never need to again.

InvincibleRain eBay now has a cylinder, piston, gasket's, timing chain tensioner, cam and rocker arms kit for $199!!!!
yeah thanks for the vid you explained it perfectly!
Yea there's not much on the scrambler as far as troubleshooting. Thanks alot
So was that the problem?

Turns out the head was warped on mine, I shaved it down and now I Jane no problems
Thanks man

Nope, never overheated? Coolant system good? Nothing's warping when hot? I have a fuel leak somewhere I got to find.
I want to talk to you
