When you tag and release it’s a nice thought, but in reality a lot of the bigger ones have exerted themselves so much during their fight that they are severely fatigued, and large sharks that have been drawn in by their powerful distress signals are just out of sight waiting to nail them. A lot of the bigger fish don’t survive accordingly
Can you please do a video on what to do when you hook up to a marlin because Me and my dad hooked up to a big stripy in the bay of islands todays and didn’t 100% know what to do
I agree and believe it might have even been the world record. He didn’t show the difference in the two heads which would have been a lot better gage but judging the bills alone it would seem that first fish was way larger. I don’t think a fish weighing 200 pounds more would have a bill twice as thick. My guess is that fish was at least 450-600 pounds larger. The craziest thing is thinking about the size of the shark that could remove the whole body of a fish that large. The shark was probably 18ft or more, the GBR must hold some of the largest fish on the planet.
@marcus larwa mate just the thought that there was a shark big enough to completely munch that fish is f@rkn terrifying and awesome at the same time haha
I believe that was a recorded braking fishing. Just judging the difference in the bill is pretty telling. The world record is 1506 pounds and that bill was twice the size off a fish that weighed 1000 pounds. I think estimating that fish in the 1400-1600 pound range wouldn’t be a stretch at all.
What could have done that? Obviously the white shark is the go to suspect. That shark had to be enormous to bite the head off such an incredibly huge Blackmarlin. Scary to say the least.
I get that it’s a lot of fun and must provide a huge boost of adrenaline, but it’s about time to really consider releasing every Marlin you catch. This weighing in for the clients isn’t really a great thing to do. I’m not a killjoy but that first Marlin had lived for a long time and got past a lot of natural dangers. And then it died because of fishing and had little to do with Nature. And incidentally I love fishing.
Not sure if this is ultimate fishing specific but pretty sure that Matt and everyone on the show hasn’t kept a marlin in a long time. This is very old episode
99% of billfish caught in Australia are released. They only keep potential record breakers. Very sustainable practice. It’s the longliners in other parts of the world that rape and pillage everything, not the Australian recreational billfishers.
That was fantastic viewing, Matt that wave piercing catamaran looks an awesome sport fishing machine,
Wats ya guess on what shark actually did that? N wat size would it of been
I reckon that had to be close to a record, like 1500 pounds plus
Chur lads, shot for the mean free content as always, much appreciated 🤝💎
Huge tiger sharks off lizard Island, some I have seen there are over 20ft.
Looks like it's about time to do some trophy shark fishing as well 😂
Less giant sharks means more giant marlin.
Complete bullshit bro
Get back to school - less big sharks means less healthy fish over all

Bloody Taxman got em a mean Kai 🦈
Wow amazing 😮😮😮

You fight it and follow it by reversing
I wouldn't have been surprised if that marlin was closer to 1500 pounds

That’s a shame to play the fish so long until it’s death and unable to escape the shark
Whatever happened to the bill Matt?
I love these show
More marlin
Good Lord! I have to wonder if the one eaten by a shark may have been over 1,400 lbs.
Yay! A BUG FASH!
Now it’s not so fresh, I would love to hear your estimate on the weight! And any expert guesstimates there has been based on measurements?

I remember as a kid watching the dvd of this, I’d personally say that Marlin that was sharked was at least 1200 pounds.
At least!
And the rest mate!
1500 it’s bill is 1/2 times bigger
Next try catching what ate the marlin 😁
Gonna need a bigger boat 😂
We would need a gigantic set of balls to try catch what ate that marlin 🤣

Whatever did this didn't eat the head. They had the heat. Something huge ake the body
WTF guys ? ..... why are you killing them?
to eat , stuff and mount and to brag about .. oh and to watch the life drain from its eyes
thought they had to be catch and release so not good to watch
👍🌟

You know we humans are apart of nature right and that we are the apex predator, anyway they usually realese but eat some like it should be
