I was on an inaugural on Royal and the carpet was already stained all over. I found MSC to be very well kept when I toured one, and it was surprising how old the ship was. Anyway, being stuck next to a smoking area or far from the elevators are why cruisers learn to pick their cabin carefully. Sounds like you went with a guaranteed cabin and got hosed. Your travel agent needs to do better.
I think that may have been the crux of the issue. Whoever he booked through dropped the ball on selecting an accessible cabin, it sounds like the agent chose a non accessible cabin and only filled out an accommodation form for him. So he turns up to find a non accessible cabin and they took a few days to get him switched to an accessible cabin.
@@evercuriousmichelle I understand that some cruise lines insist that you speak to them direct if you want such cabins, rather than to reply on third party booking for this very reason. Definitely an issue with the travel agent, but also MSC must accept that they handled this badly - the guy submitted the health form on which he specified that he needed an accessible cabin. MSC didn't acknowledge this and it was only when chased that they said that everything was fine and a suitable cabin promised. If MSC knew at the time of receiving the health form that they would not be able to provide the accessible cabin they should have refused the booking and refunded any money paid.

I have been mobility challenged since 18 and have confronted my share of haters especially when I had young children and I parked in handicap spots. I always offered to give anyone confronting me with free access to the spots with a bat.
Pools on cruises have to be an awkward shape recessed into a weird dip to combat the sloshing when you’re floating 8 or more stories above the waves. Small pools on the bow or well below deck never had this issue and tend to look like normal in ground pools, but that’s not what the market wants anymore.
That room looks exactly like the last room I had on RC Liberty of the Seas. Only thing I hated, was that there was a bar, directly behind the shower bench. I couldn't lean all the way back against the wall, and had to lean forward when taking a shower. Was very easy to lose your balance if you weren't paying attention.
It's absolutely disrespectful how they treated you. Not only MSC but also the agent where you booked your trip. They should have made sure you got the right room right away and MSC should have made sure you could go go for a swim or go bowling. And even for a person that can stand that shower head is up way to high. They could have lowered it for you so you could reach it.
Yeah….. don’t worry, there are people like me who hate lack of accessibility. I am the weird person who appears functional who complains to management when accessibility is not there. You and others are seen and supported. I am grateful you are sharing your experiences .
Glad you got the room you need and should have gotten to begin with. However, I wonder if you only got it because you are on social media and the cruise ship company is doing some publicity damage control. And I was shocked that none of the pools are accessible either because as you said the ship is fairly new.
I seems like people try but miss the boat on accessibility part.when any public anything is being built I wish they had a couple of people that really know what accessibility is. I am 4'9"/1.49m,I have to stand on a chair, or the side of a tub to reach a shower head most of the time .But the older I get the more scary that becomes.
Hey Shane, I saw you on another cruising channel, not that I cruise it’s my idea of hell. But he called you nitpicking and that pissed me off, so I have found your channel and subbed. You don’t want to read their comments either. I gave him a bit of a serve about some of the ableist language he was using. I have a couple of mate’s who use chairs, and do support work for people who need some extra support accessing the community. I’m quite shocked about how inaccessible that ship is. I’m glad you got an accessible room. But not being able to access the pools spas and everything else apart from the gym. It’s a disgrace in 2024. I’m another skip. That last clip of your next episode looks absolutely disgusting and so degrading for the person.
I'm on-side enough that I subscribed with all alerts, but I don't get why distance to the lifts matters all that much to a wheelchair user, I've been in a chair a few times, for spine and hip surgeries so wheels represented freedom to get things from the back of the market and actually keeping up with the doctor in the hallway. I'd be more disturbed being over the engines, I think.
I'm not a wheelchair user...but everyday I'm impacted with stuff out of my reach! Being born preemie, and stopped growing...I'm a now 40 year old...who can't reach stuff... Shops...have to ask any person near by to grab stuff of shelves,. Card machines put up high, had one the other day I was on tippy toes for... But whenever I go to a b&B I ALWAYS ask are the showerheads moveable way in advance and ask them to lower them! Couple years ago I was in New forest and I asked the B&B owner in advance to lower shower head... When the husband came to check me in, she showed me to my room, and said we lowered the showerhead for you... I had to go back and ASK to lower it more... Their response was a narked one, we did lower it... Yeah NOT ENOUGH!!!! So they had to LOWER it some more! I have never done a cruise..would love to.... But motion sickness easily 🙈
There was nothing accessable about that last room. So they do have actual accessable rooms on the ship but why would they let people who don't need an accessible room book it? Glad it worked out but it could have easily not.
I wish I had a walk in shower. I am not in a wheelchair but I can feel light headed and dizzy in the morning due to my chronic illness and the 9 inch step for my shower can make nervous sometimes. I do have bars but I wish the step wasn’t there at all.
I know the feeling. I can't do stairs anymore. Been 3 yrs so far that I've been waiting for the work to build a wet room onto the house so I can use the shower and I can go to the loo with the door shut. At the Mo the only loo downstairs is the small guest loo and my wheelchair doesn't fit through the door and no space in the loo for it. When I want to shower I have to be driven 30mins to my mums who lives in a bungalow and she has a shower. Ok it's in a bath but I have a bath bench so I can sit and shower. People will say move to your mums but then I wouldn't see my husband, children or pets
A major problem with cruise stateroom travel or hotel accommodations is able bodied travelers are intentionally booking accessible accommodations to obtain the added room area. There is no medical proof of need when booking. I know a person’s disability isn’t always visible, but when I see a couple exit a disability stateroom and quickly bound up a couple flights of stairs, I just assume they have cheated the system.
i don't understand why they would design rooms to be that unaccessible in the first place. like why does the bathroom floor need to be higher than the cabin room floor? i get that not every room can have all the same "bells and whistles" but something like that makes zero sense to me.
I'm sorry that your first cruise experience has been a let down. Few tidbits for you - MSC is not a luxury cruise line except the Yacht Club area. They also are very Family friendly. They are European which may not be as I Accessible as other Countries. Your travel agent is perhaps as responsible for your situation as MSC. I'm Handicapped, but not Wheelchair-bound. Be sure to book a specific room. Don't try to save some bucks with a "Guaranteed room". Book as far in advance as possible. While I think all Cruise lines need some revamping (especially elevators), I did find that Carnival (at least on Vista and Jubilee, they had a lift chair in the pool for handicap patrons.
I feel like you should get a refund. They sold you this trip under the false pretence that it’s suitable for those with disabilities. And shame on any able-bodied person that didn’t want to move out of an accessible room. And tbh there shouldn’t even be a choice for an able-bodied person to book that room, unless all rooms are already filled.
I feel that the answer lies in making a larger percentage of cabins accessible. It wouldn't adversely affect anyone who didn't need the facility, but would greatly enhance the experience for disabled passengers.
@@WHEEL_AROUND_THE_WORLD I'd suggest writing to MSC (or the travel agent if you booked through one) when the cruise has ended, setting out the promise that was made of an accessible cabin from day one, compared to the reality. I would expect there to be some offer of money back for the days where you were disadvantaged.
should they leave it empty just in case a person with a disability decides at the last minute to go on a cruise? or fill it & inform the occupants that they might need to change rooms because someone can't plan ahead and requires that room?
@@taylah1912Totally understand them wanting to book all of the rooms, but in my opinion the time it took to get an actually disabled person into the room is completely unacceptable. Three weeks pre-cruise is tons of time to reassign the room.
@@taylah1912 It is not complicated. If someone needs an accessible room, then any original occupants should be moved out of the room into another one. If any able-bodied person is refusing to leave a room they should be fined IMO for the inconvenience they are causing. The able-bodied person should be notified from the very beginning of the booking process that this can happen, so they should not be booking an accessible room in the first place.
There’s no need for penalties. You just make them move, end of story. That’s how disabled seats in theaters work, too; they’re blocked from booking for a while, eventually they open up to be booked by able-bodied people, but the disclaimer is always that you can and will be moved at the digression of the staff if a disabled person requires the seat. In turn you get a seat that’s a bit cheaper or better (because leg space) if the gamble works out.
Ah no that's not fair on the service crew who are not involved in the booking system. I would have thought that an offer of recompense is due though from MSC or the travel agent.
While I applaud them for finding you an EA room, it should never have come to this in the first place. Basically you were just at the mercy of complete strangers. Having said that, as a fully abled person, I would not hesitate to give up an easy access room to anyone who needed it, be it on a train, a hotel, or a ship. I wouldn’t even think twice about it. I would also ‘downgrade’ without question if just asked by guest services. Hell, you could even bunk with me if it came to that. No one’s trip is going to ruined on my watch. There is so much to do on a cruise, that the small amount of time you spend in your cabin anyway wouldn’t negatively impact your enjoyment of the cruise, but that accessible room can make or break someone else’s entire trip. It’s possibly one of those litmus tests on who you want in your life. I don’t want to associate with people who don’t return their shopping trolley, and I wouldn’t want to associate with people who would even hesitate on giving up their accessible room to someone who needs it. As far as the shower head being up too high, that’s really to be expected when the room was being used by an able bodied person. A quick call to guest services would have that shower head moved down the pole within minutes, so I think was just a small oversight on behalf of the person who cleans the room prior to you taking the room. I know in my hotel, the housekeepers leave the shower head half way up the pole as an able bodied person can move it up if they need to, but it’s impossible for a person in a wheelchair to reach it in order to pull it down. It’s the same if I have to use the easy access shower at my gym, I always slide the shower head back down when I am finished. Having said that, I have never, ever entered taste accessible shower room and found the shower head anywhere but right at the top, so don’t think my way of thinking is that common. Maybe I should suggest that they put a sign on the wall? Having said all that, I’m so glad they (eventually) found a way to accommodate you.
I'm in a wheelchair and just had my very first cruise. I found this cruise 4 days before embarkation, it was half the price for a guaranteed cabin, so there was no option to get an accessible cabin. I was handed a Balcony cabin and was very happy about that, allthough it wasnt accessible. I had a personal assistant, and I had to use the bathroom 2 decks above our cabin everytime. . It was a 7 night cruise on MSC Preziosa. I loved hearing the ocean from our opened balcony doors every night when we were sleeping. I would never give my balcony up for an accessible cabin, I kept using the accessible puplic restroom 2 decks above for 7 days. How on earth could you expect to have a good experience with absolutely no planning. As a wheelchair user and lover of travel (including cruises), I’d never be so slack in the planning process. Did you do this deliberately just to get views?
How could it have been avoidable? He booked through a travel agent, sent in his health declaration form on which he stipulated that he needed an accessible cabin, and (eventually) received an assurance that such a cabin would be provided.I see no reason that he would think things would not be delivered as promised. And it really was MSC problem, because if they were unable to provide the right cabin they ought to have contacted him to explain, cancelled the booking and refunded money paid.
@@MsGrockle That is not at all how this works. You have to book a specific cabin type for an accessible cabin. That form is for other medical accommodations, allergies, devices etc. This is 100% the fault of him or his agent for not booking the correct cabin type.

Anyway, being stuck next to a smoking area or far from the elevators are why cruisers learn to pick their cabin carefully. Sounds like you went with a guaranteed cabin and got hosed. Your travel agent needs to do better.
So glad it worked out for you. That shower is adjustable, and can move down so you can reach it, but i'm sure you have figured that out already!
Sorry you can't book an accessible cabin 3 weeks out. They are usually sold out as soon as the cruises are released. You lucked out.
SO. glad you got a room. x
This is such a great series of this cruise experience 👍
Retired and live comfortable, always wanted to take a cruise. It just seems there is a lot of negativity when it comes to the cruise industry. Guess I will just wait and see if things seem to improve before I make a reservation.
Fantastic - I can't believe the showerhead location.
It obviously can be moved down. The cleaning service just lacks the awareness to put it down after cleaning.
@@emilwandel yeah, but i could imagine that the cleaning staff just didn’t think about it. I mean, i wouldn’t. Just ask any of the staff and i’m sure they’ll help you right out.
I'm am thrilled that you have what you need. Ask for assistance with the shower head that's what you cabin attendants are there for.
So glad to hear you got the room.
You can ask the room attendant to lower the position of the handheld shower unit for you.
He knows that, we have them in Australia. It’s not the point cleaning staff should know it has to be moved halfway down its rail. There is a huge lack of proper training for all their staff. The gym bathroom which is supposed to be accessible. It has the shower chair far away from the shower. The grab rail was on the opposite wall not even close to the shower, and the shower head was at the top of the rail there too. There is no excuse in 2024.
Get compensation as well, took them quite a while. (It's a ship lol)
I am so happy to see this!❤❤
i am so happy for a new video
I am so glad to hear that they got you an accessible room that you can maneuver in. Why are people who don't need an accessible room allowed to book one? That is BS
You can enjoy the rest of your cruise now!
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Somebody saw your video and moved somebody who just wanted a bigger room. They shouldn't have been booked in it anyways, but i'm glad they moved them so, you could help have the space that you deserve
Waiting for the Ben & David collab ;)
I hope not, I like this dude..
@@DB-zp9un What's wrong with Ben and David? It was a tongue-in-cheek comment as well.
@@gmdaskham IMO they are just too click bait-y.. Yes, I know that's how views are gotten, but I just think they are a little over the top.. They aren't the only cruise channels I've stopped watching because of that.. Again, I get that's how you get engagement, and how you get views, just dont like how much they do it.
The shower can be moved down, it's adjustable height
Tell MSC you want to help them design rooms for disabled.
still crazy that any of the pools weren't accessible 🦽
@pr-098 i have been on many ships that have pools and hot tubs that are equipped with lifts.... NCL and Carnival. Your travel agency dropped the ball.... expose them first. I have been mobility challenged since 18 and have confronted my share of haters especially when I had young children and I parked in handicap spots. I always offered to give anyone confronting me with free access to the spots with a bat.
I know right.
@WHEEL_AROUND_THE_WORLD I think it's the line you picked any agent with knowledge would have directed you to a ship with better services.
@WHEEL_AROUND_THE_WORLD I think it's the line you picked any agent with knowledge would have directed you to a ship with better services.
Pools on cruises have to be an awkward shape recessed into a weird dip to combat the sloshing when you’re floating 8 or more stories above the waves. Small pools on the bow or well below deck never had this issue and tend to look like normal in ground pools, but that’s not what the market wants anymore.
❤ glad I knew there had to be better rooms suitable for various disability’s
The shower head is adjustable!
They have a lot of improvements to make for shure!
FYI 1:21 the caption says "can't" instead of "can"
been watching your experience and I’m relieved for you! what an ordeal. has the cruise line made any other arrangements to compensate you?
That shower head is movable, it'll just be a training issue. Can you reach the controls?
It's absolutely disrespectful how they treated you. Not only MSC but also the agent where you booked your trip. They should have made sure you got the right room right away and MSC should have made sure you could go go for a swim or go bowling. And even for a person that can stand that shower head is up way to high. They could have lowered it for you so you could reach it.
Someone set that shower up that high. It has an adjustable arm that can go up and down that pole. Have the room steward lower it all the way.
All rooms on a cruise ship should be handicapped accessible just to prevent this mess
Yeah….. don’t worry, there are people like me who hate lack of accessibility.
I love a happy ending!
Woo! Glad it got sorted out :)
This room is way better then the narrow hallway closet before😂. Is MSC compromising you for the day and night so bad?
Amen have fun
Keep us posted. ❤️
I have to ask. Did this happen AFTER posting your previous video? Im wondering if this happened naturally or this happened because of your following.
They should refund or compensate you
I'm on-side enough that I subscribed with all alerts, but I don't get why distance to the lifts matters all that much to a wheelchair user, I've been in a chair a few times, for spine and hip surgeries so wheels represented freedom to get things from the back of the market and actually keeping up with the doctor in the hallway. I'd be more disturbed being over the engines, I think.
Probably because of fatigue. Even if you are very fit, it takes effort to push all the weight around. (Based on family, not a wheelchair user myself.)
Cool🎉celebration
THEY STILL OWE YOU A REFUND THO! ...you shouldn't have had to go ONE day, in the incorrect room.
Congrats!
Finally! 👏👏👏
i don't understand why they would design rooms to be that unaccessible in the first place. like why does the bathroom floor need to be higher than the cabin room floor? i get that not every room can have all the same "bells and whistles" but something like that makes zero sense to me.
Yeah those big steps in the bathroom would kill a few oldies surely.
Is this recent? Was there pressure from the videos and would you not of had the luck if it were not for these vids?
This is why I will NEVER do a MSC cruise. The first video with him being put in a normal room is bad but making a brand new ship look old is not good!
I would like to think that the other occupant saw you on the ship and gave up the room when they found out you were in a regular cabin.
Can you say --bare minimum? I mean I believe MSC could do less, but I’m not quite sure how.
🎉🎉🎉
How much did they refund you ?
$0
@@WHEEL_AROUND_THE_WORLD I'd suggest writing to MSC (or the travel agent if you booked through one) when the cruise has ended, setting out the promise that was made of an accessible cabin from day one, compared to the reality. I would expect there to be some offer of money back for the days where you were disadvantaged.
So how did the person w no disability book that room??
should they leave it empty just in case a person with a disability decides at the last minute to go on a cruise?
or fill it & inform the occupants that they might need to change rooms because someone can't plan ahead and requires that room?
Last minute bookings suck if you need access
I hope they gave you money back or credit. If not cancel all your tips!
I forgot to add that you are very handsome
They need to give you 100% refund and a free ticket with an accessible room. FULL STOP
I have a couple cruises booked for next summer, and I do have accessible cabins booked for those.
You “would never give up the balcony for an accessible cabin”, but you booked several more cruises with an accessible cabin?
@@Airblader Balcony cabins are way more expensive than an inside cabin, I could not afford to book those, This one was given to us for half the price of an inside cabin as a guaranteed cabin "Bella experience". For the other cruises, we have booked inside accessible cabins, because we cant really afford Balconies. However, If we were given another balcony for the inside price, I would happily accept.
@@evylinsweden8979 Thanks for the clarification, makes sense.
That is fine for you.
There’s no excuse for what they did they should pay your whole cruise and I hope you still sue
I should be illegal to give an accessible room to people who are not disabled! Just like parking in a disabled parking spot is illegal if you don’t have a disability .
Because the room wasn’t for disabled for those days you supposed get some compensation just heads up..
Not if the travel agent didn't book an accessible room.
@ even so the cruse line as accountability to make sure the person able to get to safety it’s not cruise line thing it more international thing to make sure they well equipped for safety reasons if not compensation is needed for the inconvenience.. it’s more a maritime law I had to check on that since I am disabled and my dad a navy captain in US navy. It’s not just disable it’s more down line if your not satisfied or feel safe on some things that make you unable to get to safety destination cruise line need to fix it.. hence reason muster drill this reason for handicap rooms it’s for that reason no matter agent did it or not the cruise line is accountable I mean it’s not agents boat it cruse line they need make sure before they leave port.. they are accountable for his safety over seas what they did there and have him on just broke so many laws they don’t even know it… or not going say
How on earth could you expect to have a good experience with absolutely no planning. As a wheelchair user and lover of travel (including cruises), I’d never be so slack in the planning process. Did you do this deliberately just to get views?
All this drama is entirely avoidable by traveler. +1 to the MSC crew for sorting out what really isn't their problem.
@@rapunzel1701 Thanks for the correction. So it would appear to have been the fault of the travel agent as they have failed to book the correct type of cabin. However if it is also mentioned on the health declaration form and MSC can see that he has not been allocated an accessible cabin, then surely MSC should have addressed this before embarkation
Waaaah, world cater to meeeeee
We have laws on the books regarding accessibility…….
@Veritas-invenitur not all nations follow the same laws
You're JEALOUS of someone's pain and suffering. You're JEALOUS of someone having a worse time than you. You look at someone pissing on themselves and getting severely injured having to reach over their head and you go "GOD I WISH THAT WAS ME!" You're the one who outed themselves wanting attention, bub.
