Everything about this is supernatural. There cannot be voices that meld so harmoniously as these and there is no drummer who can keep that pace so accurately while never interfering with the voices...and yet here we are! I am blown away by this performance. Steve Hass is perhaps the best jazz drummer around and the Manhattan Voices may be the very best vocal group ever. BTW their ability at close harmony in the jazz vein trumps the Four Freshmen!
I know they're not playing this to click because it feels so good, but when I wanted to find the metronome marking of this song to do a similar version with my band, I literally played the metronome at 225 and it was spot on the entire song. How is that possible? Hass' time is a BEAST!
euuuuu amooooo new york voices ( Só tenho isto a dizer ) aqui do Brasil !!! Anos de Admiração por este grupo que hoje se tornou minha maior fonte de inspiração
The touch, feel and sound of Steve Hass makes this video better han any other New York Voices performance I have seen, live or studio. It's flawless drumming and amazing singing. Professional drumming only similar to the likes of Vinnie Colaiuta, Gary Novack, Dave Weckl and others in that arena of great playing. There are clips of them many years ago with Tommy Igoe where the time feel is ever changing and there is no pocket at all. Try and compare it to any other version. You can't. I hope to someday play 1/2 as good as Steve Hass. He may not be a show off, but he sure is a perfectionist.
