      Laser induced plasma channels are better

      And you've got something that's close to phasers from star trek but unfortunately they don't work in space
      Though I wonder if you could use something like a particle accelerator in space to create a beam of particles that can be ionised

    This is why they made project MARAUDER classified after the Shiva Star experiments. It works even better in a low-pressure environment. Reminds me of the dense plasma focus designs for pulsed plasmoid discharges. Very cool. You may even be able to condition the plasmoid into a FRC field-reversed-configuration, by using an RMF field coil and an expansion nozzle made of flux conserving copper rings.

    Cool design! Am working on a plasma weapon inspired by Carlos Gaines. Wouldn't it be better if you had the contraption in an enclosed cavity?

    • @PlasmaFreak
      @PlasmaFreak  2 дні тому

      By enclosed do you mean a vacuum? His stuff is definitely awesome, I am guessing he is compressing a chamber with alcohol or butane and air and then letting it out very quickly across a high-voltage spark to create a large and powerful flame. Keep me updated with your results, I am interested in seeing if there is potential in making his design form a toroid as his range and power would increase drastically if it was confined in such a structure.

    • @Don47594
      @Don47594 День тому

      Oh no, by enclosed I mean like having a
      Clear tube around the metal rod. This should hopefully keep the torus from dissipating. And I will give any results if I find any!

    • @Don47594
      @Don47594 День тому

      Carlos's design is good but it could be better with some form of plasma confinement. Even having a tube like one of those smoke ring cannons would probably improve the efficiency.

    What if you aimed a strong electromagnetic radiation source at the direction that the plasma toroid is going at (lets say a microwave magnetron) so that it would keep the plasma going for a longer distance. You know, plasma is very conductive and microwaves may keep the plasma excited in that state for longer distances? (maybie you would need to make a plasma toroid a multiple of wavelength of microwaves or hlaf the wavelenght, something like that)

    Каким образом плазма существует в виде кольца? Как я понимаю, этот стержень нужен для разгона и поддержания плазмы?

    • @PlasmaFreak
      @PlasmaFreak  Місяць тому +1

      Плазменное кольцо не ускоряется стержнем. Стержень способствует стабильности, поскольку он индуцирует токи в плазме, заставляя ее принимать форму кольца. В будущем я надеюсь проверить, будет ли его питать линия электропередачи.

    Does it do enough electromagnetic waves to actually disrupt a drone? Or any electronics? I suppose not.

    • @PlasmaFreak
      @PlasmaFreak  Місяць тому +1

      This model does not have that kind of power. The government was working on a version in the 80's that would convert most of its kinetic energy (20 MJ) into electromagnetic radiation and XRAYS on impact. So it is definitely possible, just not at this size. I need much more velocity and compression on my toroid to achieve this.

    Is there any fuel input or is it air plasma?

    • @PlasmaFreak
      @PlasmaFreak  Місяць тому

      I can introduce gases and metal salts to produce different plasma colors, but there is no fuel per se. It is just the direct ionization of air and from there it is shaped into a toroid.

  • @Tally_in_a_Jeep
    @Tally_in_a_Jeep 22 дні тому

    I wonder if you made the ring’s diameter smaller, if it would travel farther. Maybe if you somehow made its diameter around an inch, and stretched out its length so it’s the same volume of plasma per shot
    (I know nothing about physics so don’t take this too seriously)

    • @PlasmaFreak
      @PlasmaFreak  22 дні тому +2

      No, you are absolutely right! I could use a coaxial-style railgun to "shrink" the toroid to a smaller diameter. It would definitely go further due to high plasma density, temperature, as well as the massive velocity increase. Unfortunately, I can't afford the copper needed at the moment

      Is plasma affected by magnets, because if so what if you accelerated/compressed it using magnets…
      And if you managed to have two barrels, one inside the other, and had one shooting plasma with a positive charge, and the other with a negative charge. Would they attract and keep the “bolt” together for longer. I know plasma is neutral, so idk if it can be specifically charged.

    • @PlasmaFreak
      @PlasmaFreak  27 днів тому

      When the toroid is dense enough the walls of the toroid make it appear to be a ball. I think this is a good explanation for ball lightning

    What is the kinetic energy in joules?

    • @PlasmaFreak
      @PlasmaFreak  Місяць тому +6

      Not sure. Up close next the the barrel the toroid is moving at a few thousand ft/s and creates a lot of damage. It exponentially decreases in energy pretty rapidly. I need to compress and accelerate the toroid to high velocities to start getting useful kinetic energy outputs from my system. Unfortunately, I do not have the money to buy the amount of copper necessary for such a devices rails

    Could this really be useful as a weapon?

    • @PlasmaFreak
      @PlasmaFreak  Місяць тому +1

      Theoretically, yes. I would need a much larger power source to achieve anything useful. At higher energy levels these things can be highly efficient at converting electrical energy into kinetic. At high enough levels they will even convert much of their kinetic energy into X-rays and radiation on impact with a solid target
