Not a single song of Rafi sahab played by Shankar ji. Not good. Rafi sahab sang so many hits of Shankar jaikishan.
Many music directors come in Hindi cinema but no will become like Shankar Jaikishan
This was the 1st Jaimala Programme of Shankerji. A second programme was broadcast after Mukeshji's death, in which he paid tribute to both Mukesh and Jaikishan by first plying the Dost dost narha song. (He said he played the piano himself with Robert Correah. ) and then Jindagi eksafar.

They scored superbly even outside of the RK banner. Dil ek Mandir, chhoti Behan, Andaaz,Brahmachari, Arzoo, Daag,Patita,New Delhi,Kathputli,Seema, Ganga ki lehren and the list goes on and on...
Shankar is the best composer in the world. He is truly genius in music. He has created heavenly tunes and germs music.
he was composer but it was jai with whom sj vehicile ran jai beared all brunts of shankar but couldnt think of split so he went to drink which ruined his liver at killed him by 42 i still blame him god fate for his death he should have lived atleast anther 20 yrs i have that grouse with god too

They were both equally talented and every song recorded was a collaborative effort which included their individual inputs. Jaikishan’s drinking problem had nothing to do with Shankar. It was the so called “friends” who drank and had him drink on his expense.

Shankerji was a genius, no doubt, but didn't have the mesmerising effect unlike Jaikishanji except in Western fusion. His secondary lines were prose type not wavy as Jai's. He couldn't bring success to SJ brand after Jaikishanji.
Sharda came as a curse in SJ career .There was a rift. But by 1970 it was over. So there was no reason why Jai should depend on alcohol due to this. What his wife told can't be relied fully.

When jaikishan died in 1971 I was in high school doing metric and I shed few tears on that day
What a great post! Shankar, one of the greatest music director of SJ duo, bowing down and giving glorious tribute to Dada Burman. There was so much bonhomie in music directors of that era and most revered name among them was SD Burman or Sachin Karta.
It's great to listen voice of shanker g.SJ were truly trend setter.Simply unmatched.

Shankar reaped what he sowed. After Lataji gave several hits with SJ, on one fine day, Shankar started to promote Sharada Rajan Iyengar, who was not a great singer at all! Sharada's heavy voice didn't suit all top heroines! Jaikishan was against promoting Sharada but Shankar didn't listen to him! But when all supposedly deserted Shankar, Mukeshji brought truce between the former and Lataji! Thereafter Sanyasi happened, which was a major hit, so it was Lataji who gave him a hit film!!!
@@mohanpujar7403 what nonsense! Lata was an insecure person. She forgot how Shankar took the bold step to recommend the up and coming singer to RK for his first movie Barsaat. SJ had her sing for all three female actresses in the movie. During their career, SJ had Lata sing entire albums of many movies that no other composer did. Lata was a great singer but a mean human. She was very selfish and never wanted SJ give songs to Vani Jairam, support Mubarak Begum, Suman and others.

My favoutite music composers Shaker & Jaikishan.
Their compositions in all films were superb.
Shamni kapoor used to dance according to the tunes as also Rafi used yo mend his voice.

Please keep in mind that S J Team was compact with R K S J Lataji Rafi Sahab Mukesh and great poets Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri,,,, They have made a magic
Please do not give undue credit to Raj Kapoor who only gave them a break in Barsaat and that too on his father Prithviraj's recommendation. Also, Lata does not deserve any credit either as she only sang the songs composed by SJ. Most of the entire credit goes to SJ and some to the lyricists. That’s all!

Late Shankarji was a marvel. His mentor Raj Kapoor deserted him and as I was given to understand that a word was spread by Raj Kapoor to the film producers not to give work to Shankarji following flopped films like Mera Naam Joker and Kal Aaj aur Kal .
Film flopped because of weak storyline and overacting by Late RK but music of that film wad super hit
You are correct actually the role of Joker though suited the face of RK - but his age taking a toll on his physique didn't match the role n the energy required for the emotions in the film were not aligned! Above all the story line of 3 ladies with one hero that too with a foreigner as well as teenager with young teacher concepts were totally new to Indian Cinema which was a bit different from the earlier RK's subjects! Naturally the film flopped never music of SJ in this film could be a reason! If someone claims so it was their pure ignorance !
Rajkapoor betreyed shanker Jaikishan it is. Said that rajkapoor know music well he himself play number of imstrumets if it,' fact why don't he compose music for his own films
What could have made him not to mention a single word about Rafi sahab, Dattaram, Sebastian D'souza and Minoo Katrak who had indeed a great contribution in their success.

Lata Ji was hell bent on ruining Shankar Ji as He brought Sharda (although i have to say ,she was no where near to Lata Ji) & all of us know the nature of Lata Ji,she never ever wanted any female singer to prosper in her hey days .Example r many ----Suman kalyanpur,Vani jairam,Sulakshana Pandit,Anuradha Paudhwal etc. She did not even spare her own real sister ,Asha Bhosle.When there was a tiff between her and Rafi Saheb on royolty issue,she was feeling at loss as most of duets were going to Suman Ji ,as Rafi Saheb was indispensible.She patched up with Rafi Saheb to save her career.Now,when Rafi Saheb is not here to defend,she is propagating lies that she got a written apology from Late Rafi Saheb through Jaikishan Ji. There was one more reason,due to which Lata Ji was annoyed with Shankar Ji, Actually she wanted to marry Jaikishan Ji ,to which Jaikishan Ji denied and she some how gathered that Shankar Ji is after this denial.
Rakesh this a hearsay story. Heard for the first time. Lata may have had differences with Shankar but definitely not on this ground.

Shankar Jaikishan and O P Nayyar were on the top in 50s and 60s. OP was their main competitor but see the greatness of Shankar jee who told some good things about Nayyar saab. They were true professionals. Even OP acknowledged SJ were the best. Great people, great music. We miss SJ, OP, SD, RD, Naushad, MM, Roshan, CR, Salil Ch, Hemant K and all others of golden era.

SJ brought the big orchestra into film music sometimes using over a hundred musicians including chorus singers. They peaked in the sixties. Once Jaikishan died it was all over. But they rained grand music for a quarter of a century in an era of luminaries.
Shankar was a highly talented composer.. For me, He is Like A God...The duo Shankar Jaikishan created the best music right from 1949 till 1987....Even after Jaikishan passed away, Shankar created the best music..

I particularly like the programme because it was broadcast on the day I got married. Unknowingly I had the privilege of Shankarji speaking to me on the occasion. The programme may please be listened for the sake of him speaking to us which otherwise was never possible. Shankarji is very shy. Let us not attribute any motives for misses and omissions. 20 minutes is too short a while for legendary person like Shankarji to please each one of us. Let us appreciate his likes. Shankarji was neither proud, shrewd or ill minded person. Only blessed souls like Shankar Jaikishan could have created music that we all love so much. Agreed; they are all time best. I personally feel, in the evening of my life now, that I was fortunate to have lived in the era of Shankar Jaikishan-Team. Let us retain the good of Shankar Jaikishan for ever so that future generations would realize why we love them so much.

did you listen to the interview of dutta ram he never claim any songs of sj's composed by him..... binaca is not the sole criteria.sharda is new singer as sj gave chance to mubark begam,subir sen and even lata too...you have totally wrong prejudice for sj i know very well what was the importance of sj for the film industry,with his songs no one thinking about career of raj kapoor,shammi,rajendra and many.only one sj could give totally different type of film music.love in tokyo and teesari qasam

That can't be right - vast majority of their hit songs was Sung by Rafi Saab (obvious first choice if not an RK film) and not one of those songs is listed instead a barrage of RK (Mukesh) songs and even Kishore who again sang very few songs for them!! I don't believe this was Shanker recording this!!!

According to me , the most popular songs which Mukesh and Lata sang for SJ are the best and most valuable songs in the history of Indian music...even if Rafi sang many beautiful songs for SJ, it was Mukesh who sang the best male songs... but even further, it was Lata who sang the most wonderful and beautiful song of all times Rasik Balma from Chori Chori which Jaikishen composed...

How do you know that Rasik Balma was composed by Jaikishan? Did he tell you that? One could never identify who composed what except the rumor mongers.
Mukesh's best songs in SJ music. But SJ best songs in Rafi's voice. Full variety and 1st standard music with Rafi Sahab.

Raj Kapoor used to maintain a music bank where he stored compositions of S-J.[citation needed] Even after the termination of the professional association between Shankar and Raj Kapoor (Jaikishan had died by then), the latter had used a number of S-J's earlier compositions (which were in his custody) for all his films though the credits were given officially to other composers, e.g., Laxmikant Pyarelal (Bobby, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Prem Rog) and Ravindra Jain (Ram Teri Ganga Maili).

I understand why you say this. Shankerji had all praise for Md Rafi. But in this half an hour programme he was talking of the olden days and was in pensive mood. So he did play Rafi songs as most Rafi-SJ songs are happy romantic songs.

How come you say S&J betrayed by Mukesh ? In fact Shankar & Jaikishan changed their music style sometime from the early 60s (Film BOY FRIEND) and from there onwards Mohammad Rafi became their first choice as male playback singer.
Rajkapoor betrayed shankar after jaikishen's death.

They received 9 Filmfare awards, which is a unbroken record so far! Is it betrayal? They enjoyed the top position, money and publicity in bollywood! Nothing is permanent here! Had Madan Mohan said that he had been betrayed, it could have been really appropriate, because bollywood never recognised his talent and he was not signed for big budget films!
