Thanks for the review on the Clark Hollowing system and steady rest!! I really enjoyed the music and video combo during the turning portions, very satisfying to watch.
@@MSRWorkshop I added a comment earlier about the system, Your video was dissuading me from looking at the system based on your comments about flex and the weld. It seems (as you mention here) that this is an old/early system - Phew! ;)
Great video but for those of you (like me) researching the Clark Steady Rest, this is an OLD version of his steady rest. It's now made differently Now it is made with a 3/8” 3”x2” angle bent round and so it is in fact a continuous connection right around the ring. The Clark rest does seem to be one of the better (best?) out there
I did a lot of research and decided on the Kieth Clark steady rest custom made to my Harold Record Lathe. It didn’t fit the lathe so had the shave a 1/16 inch of both sides then it worked. No fault of Kieth he was relying on measurements I provided and the base is oddly shaped. It was an easy fix with a grinder. And must say I love it highly recommended it and would buy another in a heart beat when I move to a larger lathe. As for the hollowing system great video and I think I will order one also from Kieth but for that bigger lathe I’m looking to get in 2024. Which I leaning to a large Harvey lathe, or the. Robust if I can convince myself to spend that much lol
Have you looked at Oneway lathes before? I would strongly consider them as well if you have the budget. Mine has a 24 in swing without the outboard turning attachment
I’ll check them out I think the one way is right in the middle price point between a Harvey $4K and the Robust $10k So I think it would be a great choice is I wanted to spend more but not as much as a Robust. Think they are around $7k last I looked. Thanks for the suggestion!
Yes, very heavy duty.. now the giant stabilizer I think they have possibly made a few changes since I bought mine because I’ve had it for a very long time but like I said in the video, I would’ve put a weld all the way around the on both sides instead of just welding it which would’ve made it more rigid
nice video I'm looking to get a hollowing system and would like to get a new lathe as well but will see what is the website for the clark? thanks ....Larry from calif!
The wood was extremely dry and hard. That’s why it was chattering. It accepts thicker tools as well, which would help.. the cutter that I was using is a crown tool that I adapted to use in this bar. It’s not always ideal, but it works for some of my applications.
I did a lot of searching, and one of the unique features of this system is the ability to use the system essentially free hand. There is a set screw that is loosened and the bar can be free rotated like with a hand held tool but it is still captured in the system. This is especially useful for hook tools and ring tools where the hook angle needs to be adjusted frequently. Also this system is extremely heavy and robust. As any turner knows, weight really helps cut down on vibration, which gets worse the deeper you go. I’m in the process getting the pro-form hollowing tools which are a hook tool and this system really shines with this

Thanks I’ve had my system for a very long time. I even got to come down to your shop and you showed me how it worked.
@@MSRWorkshop My dad (theokspindoctor) remembers your visit. I'm his son (partner) and run the UA-cam page. Keep up the good work!!

@@NGildred mine was close to the 10k after all the extras. I got the stainless steel bed alone was another $500. And then the tax at the end sucks.
We start turning at 11:16

Hi 👋, very interested tool, but when you started there seems to be a lot of chatter, to much over hang , over the tool rest , Phil.

can you get a laser with it?
This is a great video! I'm contemplating between this and the steve sinner system. Did you look at others before deciding on this one?

never mind just answered my question! lol
Jesus. Over $1K of hollowing tools just to turn a $50 vase. Hmm
