    Wow, that turned out to be considerably more complicated than I expected. I'm curious about the refining process, but what I'd really like to see is a setup like this on a boat that can go out and drill a well in the water.

    I copied the pumpjack and swivel from you (literally copied) onto my Rig, I copied all the logic as well. Now somehow my pumpjack does not want to pump at all, meanwhile the literal 1:1 exact pumpjack on your end, does pump. Why does the damn Track not wanna move an inch?

      @@ProfNCognito Yea, I just build the whole thing on the floor to check, and it worked.. now I just replaced the pumpjack and magically it works. HOW TO KNOW WHEN YOU REACHED OIL: hello ProfNCognito, i don't know if you alredy discovered it at the point you read this but, reading some comments on Steam, they said to apply a pressure sensor at the end of the pumpjack so when the pressure is something like -997 there is no oil, and when is arround -100 yo have reached it and can start pumpingout.

    If you are interested: I had an idea last night for a tutorial video or series that you could do that would be extremely helpful for new and experienced players, and also hasn't been done before to my knowledge. Basically a tutorial on dealing with jankiness. I feel like a huge amount of the frustration and learning curve with any indie builder game has always been learning the hard way about how various systems are bugged / janky / non-intuitive and workarounds for how to deal with them. I'm pretty new to the game, and a couple examples that comes to mind are how I spent many hours trying to figure out are fluid flow rate and robotic parts. I still don't really have many good answers or consistent work-arounds.
    Like I was doing oil trading and since the sell point only has a few connectors I was trying to maximize flow rate to speed it up, and rates could change dramatically, I'd have pumps on both ends, I even tried using the crane to lift the whole tank up, which seemed to actually make a difference, possibly by virtue of keeping the hose shorter, there still seemed to be a great deal of unexplained variability. Fire fighting aircraft, even popular ones on the workshop often just randomly don't work. Even when each nozzle has a dedicated pump, some just don't work, or possibly don't render?
    Robotic parts seem overtly broken, lower speed counter-intuitively results in lower torque, lower or higher gearing also seems to result in lower torque. So in cases where torque matters, it *seems* like just not changing the settings is what you want. But also evidently subassembly weight factors into it as well where if something is connected to something that doesn't weigh much then somehow that impacts how much torque the pivot can output... I have a container lifter that works fine, except sometimes it will just go limp and drop the container, only to pick it back up again and be fine.
    Getting some input from your viewers on identifying rough edges like this, and making videos about them, I think would be both very helpful, and original.

    • @ProfNCognito
      @ProfNCognito  Рік тому

      you're not wrong about any of this and i agree. the game is janky but still fun. fluid flow rate is still something i struggle with in game that why i have a resident fluid expert in my build group [also and engine expert and microcontroller expert] it helps get me thru some of the issues i have. fell free to join my discord and ask chat about problems you are having. i have a lot of good builders there to help answer questions.

    • @entelin
      @entelin Рік тому +1

      Propeller pitch is another one which I'm trying to figure out right now. I don't think the game simulates drag on the propellers, and I don't think you can "feather" the propeller anyway. It seems like if you want reverse, then you need to have your plane start with a flat pitch (weird). Also I don't understand how or to what degree pitch / collective actually works in the game in the context of an airplane. IRL most (all?) constant speed aircraft would take off with a fully coarse propeller since it provides the most thrust at low airspeed. As the airspeed increases you reduce the pitch to preserve as much thrust as possible. In stormworks, I'm not totally sure how it works yet, but it doesn't work like that. You get the most thrust on the ground and all other times with a pretty fine pitch at the expense of higher fuel burn & heat.

    • @ProfNCognito
      @ProfNCognito  Рік тому

      Planes only fly with speed. If you got no thrust you fall out the sky. Real world physics don't apply to this game that's why I always call it planet stormworks when I explaining things in game.

    • @entelin
      @entelin Рік тому +1

      Actually, sorry, my comment on pitch is wrong partially. I had it backwards and Stormworks is somewhat more correct as a result. Propeller thrust scales mainly with rpm at any altitude. I used to fly a manual pitch bf109 a ton in IL2 and in a dive I'd always be coarsening the pitch, but this was to prevent over-spinning the engine and my brain conflated the two.
      Stormworks doesn't simulate any of that though. It seems like max thrust = ~.15 pitch at any altitude and speed but that's obviously going to be quite unsustainable for heat.

    Chances are your filters arent letting through the norma slurry, meaning the filter gets clogged with normal slurry and saturated slurry cant go through, if you only let in saturated slurry you still need like 7 filters to keep up with the saturated slurry production
