Wow, that turned out to be considerably more complicated than I expected. I'm curious about the refining process, but what I'd really like to see is a setup like this on a boat that can go out and drill a well in the water.
For sure. Gonna be testing that this week.
I converted it into a AIO refinery as well, it works very well, thanks for the creation.
Great tutorial, the first one of 5 that has helped me. :)
Glad it helped!
looking forward to an episode on refining
Lovely, thank you so much
I'm not sure about your filter setup but the release notes did mention that to filter saturated slurry, it would consume fresh water as well so perhaps that was the issue?
i did have all of that setup and working but stormworks being stormworks it chose not to like me that day.
Yeeeehaw !!
My drilling rig is grabbing pipes and pulling them straight out, not sideways..
If they are beings pulled out maybe one of the clamps are still attached?
where do i find a place to build an oil rig?
industrial island or out at sea.
Is there any way to increase oil pumping speed?
Not that I know of.
@@ProfNCognito sad :(
Its funny how more complex this is when you try to build something yourself - because Nothing works as it should :)
I copied the pumpjack and swivel from you (literally copied) onto my Rig, I copied all the logic as well. Now somehow my pumpjack does not want to pump at all, meanwhile the literal 1:1 exact pumpjack on your end, does pump. Why does the damn Track not wanna move an inch?
I call this stormworks being stormworks. My first build was just like this and had so many issues.
@@ProfNCognito Yea, I just build the whole thing on the floor to check, and it worked.. now I just replaced the pumpjack and magically it works. Tho I have another issue since a lil bit, even with using your Rig. When I have it running, all the buttons and audio may turn machine gun mode, I dont know why.
Hey man I love these vids they are great, I think a refining tutorial would be amazingly helpful keep up the good work my guy
Thanks! Will do!
10:50 trippin pipe is never good under any circumstances. lol
I love you career series man. but the last episode didn't end well, hope that you can fix your VTOL
yeah not sure what to do now that im a castaway. but there will be more.
You released this RIGHT after I figured out how to drill correctly using a workshop Drill Planform but I appreciate the more in-depth detail since I did not build it myself. Well, on to learning refining!
Glad to help
HOW TO KNOW WHEN YOU REACHED OIL: hello ProfNCognito, i don't know if you alredy discovered it at the point you read this but, reading some comments on Steam, they said to apply a pressure sensor at the end of the pumpjack so when the pressure is something like -997 there is no oil, and when is arround -100 yo have reached it and can start pumpingout.
yeah i saw that. gonna have to add it to the build at some point. thanks for the tip.
That was really good and really informative, I feel like I understand it so much better now! I really enjoyed that musical interlude as well 😁 I just can't seem to find where you buy the survey data from, I've tried a few places. I look forward to a video on refining! Thanks
Go to the oil rig in game. Second floor is the buy computer. Also one spot in the arctic.
Your actually a real one for putting this on the workshop, nobody else does.
I built a Completely automatic Oil Rig. One button does it all.
Just press and wait 😁
I should send it to you…
waht happens if soemthing goes wrong. do you have manual overide?
Well if you’d of asked me that a couple of days ago I’d of said nothing goes wrong 😂
But now I keep snapping rods for no reason…. This update is so buggy. I ran it through 10 times in a row, no issues before.
But yes it’s got a semi manual mode too where each phase is split into separate buttons.
I was watching this while having the rod being pushed into the ground in the background, I didnt realize I had hit oil at around 37m and so a bunch of oil began squirting out the top, Then when I was about to save the game bc I had hit the oil, stormworks crashed :))
welp at least you know where the oil is now
Ok. Now I want to see a water platform. I'm getting better in this game. But the systems required to build a platform, get it out to the site, and then somehow get it to.... Float? Directly above the well in perfect alignment is making my head hurt.
Yeah I probably build one this week to test and then I'll try a make a video for it.
When I turn on the rotary table the whole thing just goes haywire and flickers all the lights and drills extremely slowly. What could be causing this?
hmmm....not sure. i going to be redoing this build soon since ive been using it and i want to change some things around.
what happens if you run out of rods?? when you respawn the structure won't they disappear? the ones in the ground i mean
only time i ever ran out of rods was in the ocean. not enough to drill at 300m.
Awesome tutorial man! MP Oil Tycoon career time now! Oh and now we need an ocean drill platform tutorial! 😂
For sure!
can you make a vid where you show to to turn oil into diesel and jet fuel?
Yes soon.
If you are interested: I had an idea last night for a tutorial video or series that you could do that would be extremely helpful for new and experienced players, and also hasn't been done before to my knowledge. Basically a tutorial on dealing with jankiness. I feel like a huge amount of the frustration and learning curve with any indie builder game has always been learning the hard way about how various systems are bugged / janky / non-intuitive and workarounds for how to deal with them. I'm pretty new to the game, and a couple examples that comes to mind are how I spent many hours trying to figure out are fluid flow rate and robotic parts. I still don't really have many good answers or consistent work-arounds.
Like I was doing oil trading and since the sell point only has a few connectors I was trying to maximize flow rate to speed it up, and rates could change dramatically, I'd have pumps on both ends, I even tried using the crane to lift the whole tank up, which seemed to actually make a difference, possibly by virtue of keeping the hose shorter, there still seemed to be a great deal of unexplained variability. Fire fighting aircraft, even popular ones on the workshop often just randomly don't work. Even when each nozzle has a dedicated pump, some just don't work, or possibly don't render?
Robotic parts seem overtly broken, lower speed counter-intuitively results in lower torque, lower or higher gearing also seems to result in lower torque. So in cases where torque matters, it *seems* like just not changing the settings is what you want. But also evidently subassembly weight factors into it as well where if something is connected to something that doesn't weigh much then somehow that impacts how much torque the pivot can output... I have a container lifter that works fine, except sometimes it will just go limp and drop the container, only to pick it back up again and be fine.
Getting some input from your viewers on identifying rough edges like this, and making videos about them, I think would be both very helpful, and original.
you're not wrong about any of this and i agree. the game is janky but still fun. fluid flow rate is still something i struggle with in game that why i have a resident fluid expert in my build group [also and engine expert and microcontroller expert] it helps get me thru some of the issues i have. fell free to join my discord and ask chat about problems you are having. i have a lot of good builders there to help answer questions.
Propeller pitch is another one which I'm trying to figure out right now. I don't think the game simulates drag on the propellers, and I don't think you can "feather" the propeller anyway. It seems like if you want reverse, then you need to have your plane start with a flat pitch (weird). Also I don't understand how or to what degree pitch / collective actually works in the game in the context of an airplane. IRL most (all?) constant speed aircraft would take off with a fully coarse propeller since it provides the most thrust at low airspeed. As the airspeed increases you reduce the pitch to preserve as much thrust as possible. In stormworks, I'm not totally sure how it works yet, but it doesn't work like that. You get the most thrust on the ground and all other times with a pretty fine pitch at the expense of higher fuel burn & heat.
Planes only fly with speed. If you got no thrust you fall out the sky. Real world physics don't apply to this game that's why I always call it planet stormworks when I explaining things in game.
Actually, sorry, my comment on pitch is wrong partially. I had it backwards and Stormworks is somewhat more correct as a result. Propeller thrust scales mainly with rpm at any altitude. I used to fly a manual pitch bf109 a ton in IL2 and in a dive I'd always be coarsening the pitch, but this was to prevent over-spinning the engine and my brain conflated the two.
Stormworks doesn't simulate any of that though. It seems like max thrust = ~.15 pitch at any altitude and speed but that's obviously going to be quite unsustainable for heat.
now i can finally drill with my friend!
How did you get the data from the well head? I mean drill and well depth
Radio frequency 710
After browsing on the workshop and experimenting with someone else's oil rig, I think that maybe your Slurry Filters stopped working due to lack of fresh water. Happened to me, anyway, so it's possible it happened to you.
Also, good video! Thanks for the explanation! I'd love some more tutorials from you.
I had more water than I needed. Things did work and they worked well. It was reloading game that broke it. Any way don't need them anyways so saving money that way. Lol
Here a tutorial but I won’t teach you how to build it, go download from my workshop. Lmao
How do I make my plane stop pitching up?.
Where is the pink block when you build? Sounds like too much weight at the back.
Great tutorial, definitely want to see refining!
Does the oil respawn at all like the ores? Or do we just have to respawn the rig or something once its out?
I think it's limited that's why you have to buy more spots to drill out at sea
@@ProfNCognito I would have thought the land one might have a slow regen even if the offshore ones didn't but oh well. I guess I'd have to put it to the test
Hey, So I've tried to build your rig and everything is working good except I can't get the well/drill depth to read in the radio receiver. I'm using the small one, and set the channel to 710. What am I missing?
did you build a Microcontroller for the radio?
@@ProfNCognito I did. Set the frequency to 710, and reading the number comp on channels 1-7
Disregard. My idiot self connected to the wrong comp input
Ah no worries glad you figured it out.
Prof keep up the great work I love watching you play the career series but could you do a build series please
Build suggestions?
Did you just say O I L ?
i would love to see you oil drilling in career series
Thats the plan. had to figure out the basics first before i go and break stuff in careere. lol
YES REFINE, PLEASE :)))
i liked and sub
Thanks for the tutorial :D
You bet! Happy to help!
Chances are your filters arent letting through the norma slurry, meaning the filter gets clogged with normal slurry and saturated slurry cant go through, if you only let in saturated slurry you still need like 7 filters to keep up with the saturated slurry production
well i had it working fine for a long time and tested it out on several locations with now issue for several hours of gameplay. it was when i came back the next day nothing worked. i went thru all types of changes and had no luck. i even used old filters to remove all slurry except saturated and still no luck. ill give it another go and see if its works but as long as slurry if free these are a waste of money for career mode. thanks for the tip!
refining please
yeah you should make a refining bideo
*video
when i select the rotary table button the whole thing spasms and doesnt drill :/
Thanks for the video, yes I'd like you to cover refining cheers

i was wondering how to figure out when i hit oil... thx
I just keep my pump jack going all the time.
@@ProfNCognito yeah i got it from the video. thx tho :)
FYI is deprecated not depreciated
Yeah I always enterchange those two words.
i used beginners oilrig its bugged
Bugged how?
what direction you take the rods out of the holder is not important, the clamp is U shaped so it is just have better grip going sideways, if you use 2 clamps with some space between them there should be no problem going backwards and forwards.
As for a video on refining, that might be nice.
nice ill have to test this out now
Thanks man, Youve got the best video tutorials for stormworks man. Your coaxial helicopter was tutorial was a great springboard for me. Thanks for sharing this build too.
Aw thanks. That's why I made them. Glad they helped.
Is the oil source limited?
yea aboout 750,000 to 1,000,000 per spot
do you need dlc for this?
Not to drill oil but to drill on land. There are tons of sites to drill in the ocean, and their location information can be purchased from the oil rig out at sea or in the Arctic. Prices vary based on how many times you buy info.
5:25 you can use a fluid pressure sensor on the oil pump to detect oil. The pump can ofc create a vacuum, said vacuum will be lost when reaching oli. Here's video of a guy doing it: ua-cam.com/video/aj3GawVxk9o/v-deo.html
Nice i'll have to see about putting one on there
I have no oil head in place
Did you turn it off on game creation?
What iv found from playing around with the rod holders, pulling them straight up works aswell
straight up, good to know. thanks.
This is what I need, finally!
Thank you so much this helps a million
I would love a refining tutorial
tutorieol oil rifene plz
Guys check out my land oil pump and ocean oil rig on the workshop now!!! They have 22 rods, 2 cranes and the drills with refiners on the side. Slurry and water is all done too!
