It was a mistake. They should've bought an attacker that goes with the system; that in itself would've required the board to back the manager, a thing they haven't done for a long time. Lukaku doesn't want to adapt to the system, he's 100kg and can't trap a ball to save his life. So yeah, it was a mistake and an even bigger mistake having him in the starting XI.
Chelsea haven't been the same team as they were last year because they don't have kante, he's barely started a third of chelseas games this season
Last year with kante, Chelseas problem was finishing, they were creating loads of chances but no finisher last year, this year their chance creation has gone way down
Lukaku might not be a baller but he is a finisher but he needs the chances to finish
When you watch and compare Havertz v's Lukaku's ball control. It's a "no contest"! I hope Lukaku gets sold in the summer! Still the same donkey that left Man U!

Why homegrown players and managers are always given a benefit of a doubt, when they underperforme
IMO - If Tuchel had persisted with a fluid front three (like Liverpool and City) with Havertz and not Lukaku, Chelsea would have more points in the PL. But, maybe Tuchel didn't have a say in buying Lukaku?

@@edwinndirangu659 Listened to a lot of Lampard's interviews and only ever heard him say the opposite. I've heard him say something which sounds similar but v different. Lampard said he was "Allowed to Suggest" a list of players to Marina,and the club but "Marina has her own list of Targets". He didn't push for Kai, Timo or Ziyech. The only signing the board made out of his suggested list was Ben Chillwell. Sarri got no say, Conte got no say and had a meltdown over it. Mourinho was probably the last manager at chelsea to have any transfer power and even then there were big tensions w the board

Lukaku is an old fashioned centre forward, without the heading ability. Easy caught offside, easy to mark. If I stood in the area for 90% of the game, I'm sure I would be able to score many goals. He has got to learn to drag defenders wide and let others into the penalty box.

Simon, was the so called golden generation of footballers playing for England in the late 90s through to 2010 , get away with blaming managers when the fault was theirs? It's obvious to me why Chelsea bought Lukaku.
Lukaku throughout his career who has scored plenty of goals against average to weak opposition. He is a very useful league player, less useful in cup competitions particularly at the business end.
Last season Chelsea struggled for goals against the middling and weaker teams. So they bought a player with a track record of scoring against such opposition.

Lukaku can never score 25-30 goals at a top premier league side. Italian football was best suited for him unfortunately.
I don’t think it’s specifically the Italian league but inter Milan’s style of play enabled him to get that many goals.
