Of all the spartan fire-teams that died defending reach, the only fire-team that went down fighting that we all got attached to were those off noble team. But out of all of noble team's deaths, Six went down fighting without his helmet.
actually its a spartan tradition that if a spartan knows he or she is going to die they drop the helmet, the only ones who didnt where kat (shot to the head) and emile (over run by ZELOT elites) they never got the chance to lose it before they died but to drop the helmet is saying "let my memory live on" because of the helmets black box effect, the nural uplink in the back of the skull shows the suit when the wearer is dead so it loops back his final actions..quite sad really.

No, all of Reach save for the area around CASTLE base was glassed and those who survived were 5 SPARTAN-IIs, Dr. Halsey, and Vice Admiral Whitcomb. Plenty of other ships and ground forces escaped.
Not to mention the fact that Reach was the UNSC's biggest ship yards and their strongest stronghold, so they could have easily teraformed what was glassed, so that 37 years later its for the most part good as new.
Not stating that 6 was the first Chief but Reach takes place before John even saw battle. If you look a little to the side in a cut scene on the last campaign mission when there is a camera view on Pillar of Autumn you see John in a some sort of tube still under devlopment

Yeah, he lives long enough to get Halsey to safety. While I haven't read it myself, the reprint of Fall of Reach says Halsey's protector dies. That wasn't added in until Reach was made.

I recommend reading The Fall of Reach first. It gives you all the information about the Spartan II training and the Spartan II project in general.
Get the original versions of "The Fall of Reach" and "The Flood," they're very good reads. The Cole Protocol is my favorite of the books.
I love Cole Protocol. First Halo book I ever read, and it was awesome to see how much of a badass Thel Vadam'ee was, even long before he was the Arbiter.
Reach did get glassed but 30 odd years later it was re terraformed making it a suitable habitat for life.

if you listen really closely at the end of the six cutscene, you can hear a sniper shot but its really hard to hear
