More reviews like this please Neil, it's really interesting and valuable for consumers. It shows how much 'hype' around expensive brands is really just snake oil sales talk.
I've got a scabby old Mizuno 56deg that I use and it cost me zero but a regrip. It's fantastic out of bunkers especially. I'd have to say the Inesis gets my vote
I found a great deal on Callaway MD 4 wedges on Amazon. They are "renewed" and between $50-65 USD each, depending on loft, bounce, L-R hand, etc. They came in a few days ago and they look brand new! Got a 50, 54 and 58 deg for about $160 total. Great deal IMO.
Thats not the whole story. Buy the clubs you love. If skimp on something you dont like, you wont want to practice with it. I splurged on a Ping putter I loved and could not stop wanting to go to the practice green at the range. It improved my putting tremendously
@@tedzink4574 Haven't seen them. But check out Lazrus wedge set on Amazon. They get great reviews and for the price of one Callaway you get a set of 3. My son just bought some so I'm very interested to see how they play.
I spent £200 per wedge on Edel wedges and they were custom fit. Absolute rubbish compared to lesser cost wedges, and rock hard. Now play glide but would certainly give these ago as a second option when I need a low bounce option.
Had a cheaper set of wedges once (not this brand) and they were great when new but I found they wore very quickly. Before long you visually see the face wear and notice a dramatic spin loss. It can be a super cheap way to test different grinds, loft configurations. I'm not sad I bought them but after the experiment went back to buying the "good" ones.
The best thing about this video is I will almost certainly be buying a couple of Inesis wedges; even got the Decathlon website open on my other monitor as I type this comment.
The ball you use , the weight of the club, thickness of the grip and most importantly personal technique have a bigger effect on the shot than the price. Only thing I hate about cheap clubs is the shock on impact. It doesn’t affect my shot but it makes my hand tired much quicker
Which model Inesis is this? On the Decathlon website I see the 900 series that is £89/club and the 500 series that is £49 - it looks like the 900 - how did you find one at £30?
In my humble opinion, the question is not : "Do all brands perform the same ?" but "With what clubs do you enjoy more ?". If golfers were rational, we would know it !
Thanks for an excellent comparison. I must admit that I am a big fan of Decathlon and use them for a lot of my sporting requirements, their clothing, footwear and equipment is always well designed and tremendous value. There is less choice of Loft & Bounce, but personally, I prefered the simple lines of the Inesis.
I actually would have liked to see some tests where the wedges were sprayed with water or in completely wet conditions to see if calaway's grove tech gives you any extra spin. Imagine the key difference between an expensive wedge and cheap might be a little durability, but like how well the wedge funnels away dirt and grit. Additionally, the bounce/ sole grind options would be fairly expanded with an expensive wedge.
Most of my clubs are mid priced products that I bought used, I spent a little extra on an odyssey putter, 2017 Big Bertha hybrids. The only new clubs I have ever purchased are the ping wedges. The glide 3 in 50* and the glide eye2 in 54*. The grips have guide marks for hand positioning when gripping down or opening the face. it helps me hit a few different shot types without having to change my swing, or much else about my setup.
The real way to go is wait! In 3 to 4 years that Callaway wedge can be bought very lightly used on Ebay for $30! Have a full set for less than the cost of one wedge brand new! Being poor tends to make one very resourceful!
This vid hit the spot for me as I am in the market for a wedge. Enjoyed the the presentation as well. As an aside, In my day it was drive for show and putt for dough I still think putting wins the dough but driving is definitely not for show.
I would say the difference in spin in your testing could (and probably is) down to you and how you struck the shots. Thats why they use robots to test and not humans. 👍
Decathllon products are really impressive - you gave a great review of one of their balls, too. I love your honesty about the products and I hope that we will see you looking at other smaller brands like Old Tom or Benross in the future.
I always find it annoying when comparing high price/low price clubs reviewers refer to the less expensive club as "cheap". That term, while meaning less expensive, implies poor quality. Even if the reviewer mentions the quality is not bad, the slur has already been made and noted. To say the less expensive club may not wear as well as big brand club may be true but, in this case you can replace the wedge every year for five years and be money ahead. It appears to me the expensive club gets points in it's favor because of the brand name and pretty glass beads. So, reviewers try to justify why a set of clubs costing $2,000 to $3,000 or more is a good deal while telling the average golfer that they should change their grips every 40 rounds, change wedges every couple of years because of groove wear and you need to change your driver almost every year to maximize your game. I wonder why it's hard to grow the game.
I run MD Gold Norman Drews and SM7 in another bag, it grip size, bounce and weight, plus keep the face groves good and open. Both check the exact same.
Wedges are blades with steel shaft => flex, torque, ... differences must be minimal with the same loft. Except bounce, everything else is marketing, isn’t it ?
Can you do a Brand Name Irons vs Component Irons. I had a couple buddies(now moved) who swore by Hireko golf clubs. I never tried them myself , but for the price they look really attractive, but are they really worth it?
I've no qualms about using Inesis. I play the Inesis 500 & 900 golf balls both excellent. I tested MD3 when I was looking for wedges and thought they were excellent
I had a favourite gap wedge (hippo performance series ) bought for £8 brand new - loved that club. Now tend to buy last generation 'premium' wedges when new line comes out - good deals to be had (like two wedges £150) 👍
I have a old cheap Dunlop 50 degree utility wedge and it doesn't matter how hard I hit it or how good the lie is, it will never go over 100 yards. Perfect for approaches!
Good to see comparison like this and not someone trying to prove the cheaper one wasn't good. You did a fair test mate. I would say the inesis definitely worth the money. You really need to review their golf balls they really are very good
Great review! For the average mid- to high-handicap golfer that lower spin rate on the 50 yard shot won't make a bit of difference...it might actually help in some instances. Definitely worth trying before going all in on the more expensive wedges.
So I think you touched on it at the end - what’s a typical estimated lifetime for a wedge? How many years are we spanning here, because 30-150 is quite the difference.
An excellent upload! The best club for an individual, isn’t necessarily going to be the most expensive, or even the top rated club. The club that’s perfect for you, is the one that fits you correctly (loft, lie, length), that feels the best in your hands and with your swing, and does what you want it to (this isn’t Hogwarts, so no magical clubs here!).
Dear @golfmonthly are the 52° version of this wedge, the gap wedge forgiving enough for a player who's just started the play of short golf (pitch and putt). ?? Hope to hear from some people who are using this....
Not sure if your still wondering after a month, but yes, they are very easy to hit and quite forgiving. I have both the 52 and 56 with the stiff shaft (fast swing).
I bought cheap wedges with custom length and lie for 1/2 the price of my last set of wedges. Most people will fit in the stock wedges and can get older models for a great price at the pro shop or online.
Excellent review Neil, great advert for cheaper range of clubs. Handicaps fall, and scores generally improve when golfers convert that chip into one put range. However, I would ask you to review club performance with balls most golfers use. If a golfers budget is for cheaper brands, would they be playing with £ 3 to 4 balls? On my course with water hazards that could be £40 of lost balls per round😨
this video is not about cheap vs expensive wedge test..from the start to the end..its just all about trying to market out those inesis wedges..i think if a few more of this kind of videos coming out from golf montly, i would probably gonna unsubscribe u guys..cheers
I bought a Ram 52 56 and 60 wedge set on sportshq for £44 ....The look good and play well for me (12 handicap)
Ram used to be a leading brand in the 1970's and 80's. Golf equipment age well. Stay safe 👍👍
What's funny is when you stick a wedge shot close..nobody says wow what wedge are you playing.....
I've started doing it lol
More reviews like this please Neil, it's really interesting and valuable for consumers. It shows how much 'hype' around expensive brands is really just snake oil sales talk.
I've got a scabby old Mizuno 56deg that I use and it cost me zero but a regrip. It's fantastic out of bunkers especially. I'd have to say the Inesis gets my vote
Thanks for the review. I actually prefer the look of the inesis wedge.
Less flashy
Make sure to get cast ones for a real savings.
Remember Vokeys are also cast. Skip the forged, those grooves melt after a season.
Nope ... Mizuno forged wedges feel better and they add a little boron to harden them up a little ... Besides , ever heard of a groove sharpener
For only £30 you can replace the cheaper wedge more often and you don’t mind damaging it in the bunkers
You left the duff in good honest stuff Neil 👍
I found a great deal on Callaway MD 4 wedges on Amazon. They are "renewed" and between $50-65 USD each, depending on loft, bounce, L-R hand, etc. They came in a few days ago and they look brand new! Got a 50, 54 and 58 deg for about $160 total. Great deal IMO.

@@MrAhuraMazda The club has to be sexy or you won't like playing it. Number 1 rule of buying clubs is buy what you think looks good
Golf Sidekick regularly raves about Inesis products. Interesting to see the wedge holds its own.
I've never seen anything Inesis in the States, are they here?
Yeah, he loves the inesis balls. I agree, cool to see it hold its own!
@@tedzink4574 Haven't seen them. But check out Lazrus wedge set on Amazon. They get great reviews and for the price of one Callaway you get a set of 3. My son just bought some so I'm very interested to see how they play.
@@beefhamma Thanks, but I just put 2 used Mizuno wedges in the bag, about $35 each.
Sidekick...is no1.

Remember when new wedges were Around £80 not so many years ago. Why have they pretty much doubled in price for major brands?
Good Q.
Try Slazenger v300 or v500 wedges £10-20 each
Had a cheaper set of wedges once (not this brand) and they were great when new but I found they wore very quickly. Before long you visually see the face wear and notice a dramatic spin loss. Its easier to blame a cheap club for a bad shot than a premium one so that is even more money in the bag haha
The question is wear after a season...

These kind of tests should only be done by robots so that all bias is removed.
Thank you very much for this video. I own a 60º inesis wedge and I'm loving these sand escapes and flop shots.
Wow! Powerful point... you cannot buy a better game but you can practice more.
You fairly wrecked that fairway

I have a warrior wedge and I hit it better than my expensive Cleveland wedge. Expensive golf clubs are a scam.

There is a chrome finished inesis wedge for the same price as the matt finished one. Euros it cost 59€. I was thinking about getting one.
I have three of these: 50,55 and 60 and love them. They were only 50e in Spain too. They're lighter and less bulky than the 30e ones.

Used or inexpensive is the way to go for the beginner,
until a person figures out what they like, what feels comfortable for them etc.
Stripe you divots front to back, dont move sideways. It hurts the grass a lot more when you rip ou a circle than a strip.
Would be great if you could actually buy these from Decathlon in the size and 'speed' you want. Try it and see what happens.

Test how these wedges perform after a season or two of playing. For me Im going to have a wedge for at least a couple of years if not longer.

A good honest review, I've always believed you get what you pay for and the cheap wedge will not last as long as an expensive one.
At that price you can get a new set twice a season.

If u paid £149 for the md5 then your a melt. They cost £129 in all shops
The vokey doesn’t take any strokes off the game. Your wedges need to be god awful for that investment to take strokes ofd
