Oh man when i commented on your other video yesterday asking to do a vocal mixing vid, i didnt realise that you would get it done the next day! Thanks heaps this is great!!!!
Kenny you are super awesome. People are overinflating plugins nowadays, but your basics are so clear, you can do it old school. Thanks a ton for this video Followed along for my song. It's sounding really cool. ❤
Excellent use of Razor Editing. Been trying to wrap my head around the concept but this video, along with your Razor Edit explanation video made it crystal clear - thanks!👍
A helpful tip for when you make your wide delay in the first portion; You can right click on the ReaDelay text itself and if you select FX Chain, Save Selected FX Chain name it and hit save, This will now be able to to quickly be pulled up as an FX in the same manner you looked for ReaDelay. Just makes finding and applying the FX chain easier without having to redo the whole process each time.
Another great video. My biggest problem with doing vocals is panicking and throwing too much processing on them. And it always ends up thin and too loud.
thank you, as someone that has played with this program with little to no experience- this video has helped me learn some things to pull my vocals together! thank you
Thank you so much for your videos. For me, learning Reaper is a daunting process and your teaching style and the pace is perfect. You are helping me learn something that I thought would not be possible. You are an inspiration.
Thank you for these videos, man. I started with LMMS, then purchased FL Studio full bundle but when my engineering skills grew and a need for efficiency when processing vocals arose, I no longer found FL intuitive for vocal production. I bought the REAPER License and I so far love the vocal production workflow. While I think every DAW has its strengths and weaknesses, REAPER is a good investment for audio engineers, especially those in vocal production. Again, thank you for the tutorials, Kenny.
Thanks so much Kenny, you'll never know how helpful you've been to me being able to release many songs. Just with what I learned from you, I think my stuff sounds really good. I sent one of my songs to a well-known mixing engineer and he really didn't have much to critique! On my next song, I'm working with my usual singer and she has a beautiful and sweet voice, sometimes though when I play something loud with her voice it breaks up, too many mids or something IDK. It's not super loud compared to everything else, I guess that frequency is just difficult for speaker mids to play loudly. I am doing everything on your list here, I'll try it out when I get the final isolated mix. You're the best!
Kenny, what about adding a second compressor with a slower attack to the chain to further smooth things out? Could you expand on that, perhaps in a part B to this tutorial? Thanks for all your great tutes! 💯
Thanks, as always, Kenny! One question; would it be better to put the reverb and delays on an aux track instead? And if/when doing so, the mix would be 100%, correct? Using the volume fader to bring in as much verb/delay as wanted?
Thank you for your help! Great video, I discovered afterward, I could save the whole effect chain, which is no doubt very well known, but not to this novice! I've called it Vocs Kenny, it's a great starting point to have that I can work/mod as I learn a bit more. Thanks again!
Nice one, Kenny! It´s amazing what i was able to learn about music production, thanks to your tutorials! But, obviously, there is so much I still don´t know. How did you manage to make the waveforms change as you make an automation volume drop? Mine doesn´t do that, and it would be amazing to know how much to drop (not to make db by db drop). Thanks!
I would suggest setting reverb times [RT60] to a note value and the same for pre-delays. I've found that 1/32 or 1/64 note value for pre-delay depending on tempo, 1/2 to whole for RT60. The method shown for sibilance works well for P-pops. Instead of boosting harsh frequencies into the compressor making the compressor work harder why not cut some of those frequencies? EQ can also be used in the sidechain of the compressor to reduce the compressor action at certain frequencies. That how many sibilance plugins work.
Wow - I didn't know that trick with razor edits on the envelope! I've been doing a time selection and double-clicking the envelope. Before that I was using the Insert 4 Points Action.
What microphone are you using? And are you panning a second track left and right? It sounds great and sounds so full so I was curious what mic you were using and what tricks you do to make the vocal track stand out more in regards to panning a dub left and right.
Wondering why you inserted the reverb on the track instead of creating a send? Some people think it always has to be on a send. I am not one of those people. 😏
Basically when it's anything to do with Reaper you are the godfather, right now I have a splitting headache from sitting at the desk listening to the same song over and over and over, adding plugins one down on top of the next from reaper to uad fab filter, izotope and ending up in a complete mess, having the best but not getting the best, the fraze less is more is certainly a true fact, now that I will finally understand how to mix vocal, next is creating a drums template In Reaper 7 to work with ezd3 and my e drums e kit nux dm 210, If anyone can create this tutorial, Kenny your king!!
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. One thing for sure, this vocal track you're using is, maybe to good for this demonstrating? Maybe? When I use this compression on my vocal track, I have to set the threshold really aggressive to reduce the highs. If I do that, I hear the compressor working and the vocals sounds terrible. I think I need a compressor intervention. The other day I became aware of compressed vocals on the radio. I was listening to Peter Garbriel and all of the sudden, it was like my mind recognized it. It dawn on me that Peter Gabriel's voice sounded like and instrument. I'm I right about that? It seemed to me that his vocals were a flat line at the right level with almost no ups and downs. Anyway, frustrating.
Love your work Kenny. Thanks for all the effort you put in to making my music sound better 😅

Another amazing and super useful video! Thank Kenny! 🤝 What an amazing voice too!
Thanks Kenny. Your videos always help so much.
Excellent Kenny, always learn something new !!! Fantastic tutorials !!
This is such invaluable knowledge, thank you so much for giving it all away for free.
OMG dude that tip with the lexington IRs is pure gold. You just saved my vocal mix.
That was intense! Learned a lot! Thank you!

This video really helped me! thank you so so much!!!! you are an amazing teacher and such a blessing!

Reminds me of Thom Yorke a bit
Amazingly helpful thank you
Thanks Master ☺️👍
This was so helpful thank you! ❤
It wouldn't surprise me if this is Kenny himself singing. Beautiful! Can you post the link to the full song?
Man thank you thank you thank you ! This help me soooo much ! Really Thanks man you great 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

It's been a long time since I heard a song like this, fantastic and beautiful Muchas Gracias maestro
Great stuff...👍
As always writing a comment to support the channel
Thanks buddy! You helped me out
Thank you so much!!
"I Know You Have It" would actually be a great title for a song.
thanks for sharing

Thank you very helpful techniques! :)
Great Kenny
Interesting that you do the delay and verb before the Comp and eq. I usually always do the comp and eq first.
The man is a Reaper magician!
Thanks for the Idea that De-essing via envelope manually is actually easier than using a plugin
Man, you're awesome
That's great 👍
tnx for sharing
Reverb information was useful, thanks
SUPER FANTASTIC!!!! 🎤 🎙️ 🤩💯🎵😎⭐️👍💥⚡️🎼🎶🎵
Would love to see you mix a project with horns @reapermania especially the reggae genre... I'd appreciate that
This will work for live vocals too .. Awesome …

Didn't see the quick adjustment on Length (musical) from 4 to 0. Was wondering why mine sounded nothing like yours haha. Great video, once again

You didn't add the reverb and delay in an aux track ?
Really love this method.
Thanks alot for your lectures.

I think he was automating the pre-volume curve, not the normal volume envelope.
I would suggest setting reverb times [RT60] to a note value and the same for pre-delays. I've found that 1/32 or 1/64 note value for pre-delay depending on tempo, 1/2 to whole for RT60.

thanks man
Great learning video! Thank you. What did you do with the voice in the chorus? There's some sort of modulation or doubling going on.
Thanks, as always! This and the mixing acoustic guitar one were particularly helpful for me. I like how you give me the confidence to do less. 😜
i NEED MORE DETAILS ABOUT WORKING THE COMPRESSOR PLEASE
Wow - I didn't know that trick with razor edits on the envelope! I've been doing a time selection and double-clicking the envelope. Before that I was using the Insert 4 Points Action.
LOL the inserting 4 points is so relatable
Any reason you don't cut the low end before the compressor?
Ok let me get this straight!
You’re gonna select these plug-ins because you know we have it
Because it comes with ??? Cubase..?
Right
What microphone are you using? And are you panning a second track left and right? It sounds great and sounds so full so I was curious what mic you were using and what tricks you do to make the vocal track stand out more in regards to panning a dub left and right.
Great help. 🤪
Hello!✋️ What panning mode(pan law) are you using in the project?
Is there a faster way to make razor edits on vocals… that would literally take all day… editing, cutting etc while going through the whole song
This song is pretty awesome 😂
How do I match tempo between an instrumental and an acapella from another song? (pitch of instrumental allowed to change)
Wondering why you inserted the reverb on the track instead of creating a send? Some people think it always has to be on a send. I am not one of those people. 😏
Why not use X-comp or another instance of Comp to tame the sibilants?
You could.
Hi
can you tell, where did you get the stems for this song? I've looked it up in a database with 70.000 entries but couldn't find anything.
But where is the basic Treble Bass Mid EQ Knobs for Vocals? Thats all i want but cant find it.
So I can use a volume envelope to de-ess and remove breaths including t and p plosives...
Hey are you mixing this in stereo on mono monitoring? I just found out that you’re allegedly supposed to mix in mono then stereo?
You're not supposed to do anything.
Cool ❤ help full video
