- Episode 5 of the Suzuki V-Strom 800RE long-termer. Mossy brings us up to date on his long-termer and future bike plans.
Some of the new RE’s modifications are immediately evident and preferred. The 30mm lower seat makes it much easier to get on the bike; with the appreciably taller and broader screen, it will obviously offer more protection than the DE’s much smaller version. The altered riding position created by the narrower bars, sited slightly lower and further forward, and alloy footrests attached slightly higher and further back, is less noticeable. But get underway, and what is immediately apparent is the change in steering characteristics effected by the smaller front wheel. Even before we got to the mountain roads, the quicker and lighter way the Suzuki turned into corners was a clear and welcome feature. There’s a more positive and direct feel through the bars, which inspires more confidence and allows for more spirited and secure riding. Also very noticeable is the extra power of the new four-piston radial callipers, which provide sharper, stronger braking. Though ultimately not as versatile as the DE’s, Suspension action remains well-controlled, offering good support and compliance. Overall, the new RE feels more at home on the road, and the superb day’s riding felt so rewarding I would have loved to have continued back to the UK.bikerheadz.co.... video brought to you by Bikerheadz (Fuelled by TranAm Ltd).To find your UK or Ireland stockist of the product shown please visit: bikerheadz.co.... I bought the 800de here in Australia and the engine is a real gem. Im not suffering the buzzing or heat issues reported. The suspension could do with some work and thats on the list.
Always enjoy listening to Mossy's comments.
I have had my 800 Re for 2 months now, I agree with Mossy lovely engine, vibrations no different to other bikes, just returned from the isle of Man, handling was very good around the 37 mile track, cant say ive noticed the heat from the engine, sum up, Great bike.
I love mine. It's the perfect daily for getting to work sips gas and scoots around traffic nicely
I have the same bike, even the same color. Really love the engine, vibration and heat have not really been an issue. I agree, it needs a bit more noise. Stock silencer is nearly silent. I have a Ixil MXR slip on that adds just enough sound with the db reducer in and it's about 1/3 the cost of the Akrapovic. I have a set of EBC HH pads up front, give a little sharper bite than the stock Nissin pads.
It's not, like Mossy say's a wow bike. But I think there's a lot to be said for how a bike sounds...And how the sound of a bike can transform its appeal. The 800 with a proper pipe sounds incredible and Im glad Mossy is gonna do that mod, And anxious to get his reaction.
Definitely recommend Hyperpro suspension upgrades. Used it on my 2008 ZZR1400 very good .
Looking forward to more on the Suzy. Also how do you like the Schubert’s E3
Love your review! Some say the 800RE (IMO it's a "very good" do-it-all motorcycle) puts out a lot of engine heat, also that it's pretty buzzy at 75 to 85MPH, have you experienced that?
I bought one last week and my right hand does go a little numb been told once it gets to around 1500 mile on the clockit’s less buzy time will tell I suppose other than that I’m enjoying the bike
Put a third party cruise control and 19" spoked front wheel in the DE and you will have a 2024 Africa Twin Adventure Sport for half the price
Some have complained about vibration on this bike. Did you find it to vibrate too much?
I want to buy this bike to replace my 650xt but oh god can’t Suzuki give it some decent colours and gold wheels
Engine vibration turns righ leg into jelly
I just discovered this bike requires… premium gas! …
Do you use premium, Mossy? Or regular? Any difference in performance?
👍👍👏
Nice review, it didn’t need the stupid music.
