Jeremy Stivers the fact is, it literally comes in Different variations and designs. The pokeball theme have a clicky button, the limited pikachu have a diarama like nose, and the originals have that striped matte. Hope this helps.

These options would have been much better for most people if they were available from the beginning. Instead, they got put off until most people would have bought an earlier version already only to see a better one advertised like a year later... and then an even better one a year after that. It sounds like a ploy to get people to buy more then one, unless they decide to wait for several years, and it's kinda shady.
It's actually because of multiple factors. Particularly, royalties in regards to the 3D effect. And the fact that some people don't really use the 3D effect often.

I would avoid the New 2DS XL because: 1. The New 2DS XL's rechargeable battery cannot be replaced. 2. The New 2DS XL's speakers are at the bottom of the New 2DS XL. 3. The New 2DS XL's controller grip add-on muffles the speakers. 4. The New 2DS XL's stylus is really tiny and the stylus does not extend and retract. And 5. The New 2DS XL's speakers are not loud enough.
Dustin Nunn yeah those cons do suck but honestly after 5 years my 3ds xl battery is still going strong with a good 6 hour battery life on ultra moon. The price drop is worth it unless you use the 3D and they actually come with a charger.
That's actually a good point.......how many 2DS XL's is Nintendo gonna make? I'm happy with the one I have now. What's next a Metroid.......Samus themed 2DS XL?..........actually no that I think about that one.......and if they make a Zelda Link Between Worlds themed 2DS XL.....I ain't gonna lie I'd probably get it being a huge Zelda fan.
Lamarr I think I have an answer to the question "why so many special editions?": first, Nintendo is japanese, I know everyone knows but it's the answer IMO, because that means that the most of their market is Japan and in JP you can find people who have to collect all they are interested to. For example, the right way to buy a manga volume in JP is buying 3 copies: one you can read, one as backup and one who you'll NEVER EVER open. And if there is a special edition of something you already have you have to buy it as well. Nintendo knows it and uses it to make better profits.

Personally, I'm saving up for the 2ds xl and I'm waiting for a nice colour combo to buy. So far I'm leaning towards the white and orange.
