It is not by chance that he is a member of the band Fourplay. He is jazz drummer, record producer, one of the best in the world. He is one of those persons who was born with talent and combined skills with hardwork!!
And that is why he was one of the most in-demand session drummers in Los Angeles during the 70s and 80s. To me, he was the West Coast answer to Steve Gadd.
The king of the funkiest jazz groovers in the mid 70 - 80s. Harvey is were Dennis chambers and many others come from. And he's a very serious problem when it comes to the most technical chops! He was the top session drummer in his day for contemporary and commercial jazz. He also wrote Mario's hit song "How could you" with his writing team in the mid 2000s. You're a bad man Harvey Mason you paved the way for many people looking for soulful grooves in the birth of commercial jazz. 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
What an "awesome" cut on Dave Brubeck's classic Take 5. That was Harvey Mason with his version of Take 5 real cool funky twist to it, just simply unique. On your Sunday smooth after hours. That was another CD101.9 classic track played often 1995- 1997. Of course that was a different world then, different crowd, different audience.
I was in grade 5 (11yrs) old when this came out... I remember listening and recording the PBS radio station on Saturday afternoons when I first heard this. I lost the cassette a couple of years later but it always remained in my head. Never knowing who the artist is and with so many versions of take five made it difficult to track down. I've gotta say it's as fresh now as it was back then.
Just fantastic...one of the finest rendition I've heard...right up there with the version done by XL/ and Eric Singleton...just amazing. music doesn't get any better than this...continue your ride the galaxy folks!
First heard this song on watercolors an was instantly hooked unfortunately they don’t have this album on iTunes or Apple Music I had to buy the old cd definitely worth it though
