    Great video SRD. I love these single cams, they have so much personality.
    You really know how to build motors!

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  Рік тому +4

      They are fun motors!! As u see in the video “spirited” driving and it chirped second gear lol I wasn’t trying to do that intentionally loool

      @SusedatLubo Рік тому +3

      Single cams are too looked down on. Sure, at most things they are at a disadvantage compared to a B/H/K series, but being the underdog is what makes them fun and seeing the effort that you put in pay off a little or a lot. You can hear SOHC owners being proud they outran a DOHC, but not the opposite. That's the point people are missing out on when they have powerful motors from day 1. There's only so much you can do to something that's as close to damn near perfect, D series on the other hand...
      Good build, Ralph! That clutch sounded hella healthy when you dropped it into second gear, so she should pull really good and be fun to drive!

    Good comment on being aware of your mods.... It's a far cry from a race car and a modified street car. For instance, I run modified oem as much as possible. The reason is because I build cars capable of pizza delivery. My cars are run 8-12 hours at a time, usually idling between runs instead of shutting off(to save the starter), and I need to get the pizza from oven to customer over and over again as fast as possible all night long.... My requirements are much different from a drag or circuit racer and so I approach the builds accordingly.

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  Рік тому +2

      Yes sir!! And so true
      Many don’t realize that “usual” idle and street drive they use as an excuse to not spend cuz it’s not for race when it’s as strenous, yes different parts but the care and precision needed, much the same…
      I can tell any small % in efficiency u find can lead to a big benefit on a 8-12hour use/day so it is real valuable

  • @freeman8000
    @freeman8000 Рік тому +1

    My first engine build, the mech suggested letting it idle for 3 hours lol. Then he says don't drive it over 3k rpm for the first 24 hours lol

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  Рік тому +1

      Even here the old “saying” still exist drive it slow and steady for the next 1,000miles lol

    Absolutely agree with your break-in methood, that whole "don't rev it over [X] for the first [X] km" -schtick is absolute nonsense. My pops (car mechanic for over 35 years) taught me this/your method and it works like a charm!
    Your channel is an absolute treasure trove when it comes to D-series engines and I'm super happy that I've found it. Planning on doing an all motor D16Z6/Z9 that's still daily-capable.
    Thinking about some mild head-work (P&P), crank balancing+polishing, a stage 2 cam and some forged internals for that sweet sweet 8000RPM+ rev limiter. ;)
    What would be your recommendations for quality, lasting pistons/conrods, based on your experience?
