  • Kaleleonālani
Mahalo nui to the Daughters of Hawaii for their tireless efforts to maintain and uphold the legacy of our aliʻi, Queen Emma, and her beloved home here at Hānaiakamalama.
The queen was always addressed as Emma or Emalani, but upon the tragic deaths of her son, Prince Albert, and her husband, Kamehameha IV, she asked her people to call her Kaleleonālani, “the flight of the heavenly ones.” The song “Kaleleonālani” was written as a greeting to her when she sailed to Maui in 1882. As her ship entered Kahului Harbor, lehua blossoms were floated on the water to greet her. It later became her rallying song when she campaigned for royal office.
Please welcome our director, Kanoelani Williams, and the ladies of the Punahou Alumni Glee Club as they hula our Queenʻs song, “Kaleleonālani”.
