Aloha! My name is Kumu Kanoe, a hula teacher from Nuʻuanu, Hawaiʻi on the island of Oʻahu. This is our online hālau hula (hula school) where we share Hawaiian mele (songs), hula (dance), and ʻike Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian knowledge).
I have the kuleana, or responsibility, to teach the hula and due to COVID have had to restrict my teaching to online platforms like Facebook and Zoom. Over time we have gained new members of our hula ʻohana from all around the world.

Ka Punahou Alumni Reunion 2024
Celebratine Punahou School Alumni Reunion Week by teaching a class for hte BuffʻnʻBlue Back to School workshop series. We shared Aunty Hattie Louise Leilehua Phillips' hula to the traditional mele "Ka Punahou"

In the year 2001, when Kumu Kanoe was a Senior in high school, she and her classmate came up with the idea to encourage the Faculty and Staff of Punahou School to dance a hula for the annual Holoku Pageant. While visiting one of our Global Hula ʻOhana in New York City we couldn't pass up the opportunity dance "Kewalo Uka" in Central Park. We met Utako through Kumu Kahanuola Solatorio and his Instagram channel @ehoopilimai where he teaches ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language). In honor of Kumu Kahanu, we dance his mele, about his home on the island of Oʻahu.
