your cows are generating to much methane gas from their farts which according to John Kerry Biden's climate envoy with is causing the temperature of earth to increase. LOL no shit they want to stop cow farts. That guy is nuts lol.
you know what's wonderful about out earth....it's amazing ability to regenerate
You know what also can make you fart a lot? Eating a vegan diet. 7 times more according to studies. Probably balances out the reduction in cow farts.
Hey, they fart just like Vegans!
...sorry mate...he isn`t...
Such a great and touching story there. You did well-
Thanks also for your previous experiences.
Our Daughter is an RN in a NICU unit here at a Teaching Hospital/ College-she also just got her Flight Nurse Certification level 4 -to transport via helicopter. She just loves her job. Salute to all the First Responders!
Good afternoon Josh, what a crazy story happy you were able to save her life!
@joesoutdoorexperience, Josh said he's a "cow tipper".
Nearly 80 yrs old and you taught me something new today. TROCAR... thanks.
Thanks Josh for the education to save a cows life. I never had a clue.
Amazing, save Josh. After all the years of watching, I just learned something new.
Checked with a vet and was told this is the only quick way. Thanks for this information
One of your better videos. Great information.
Glad it was helpful!
Well done Josh, Well done indeed!
Hey Josh thank you for the video I enjoyed it and great information to know I didn't know anything about this and I'm glad that you were able to save your cow woo👍👍
Happy for you. Great story. It's like you let some air out of a balloon!
Great Emergency Preparedness story.
I was going to plant some oak trees this year and now I will rethink that decision.
Good afternoon Josh I enjoy your videos..been missing the misses ms stoney ridge, like ur farm..
Jerry, she's gone brother. For the 15th and final time......I wish her well, and I can't say I didn't try. I'll talk more about this soon, for the sake of not airing dirty laundry I'm just sharing with folks that ask. I am having to be very strong buddy, I still love her so very much, but something changed. Worse than a sad country song
You have two options in those situations - do nothing and have a dead animal or try something...if it goes well you have a live animal. If it does not go well, you have a dead animal. You have to try as you have nothing to loose. You do what you gotta do. Good job!
I’ll definitely be buying one when I get my cattle in the future. And do my research to add to my ATV and side-by-sides.
Doctor Josh....I know your a nurse , but you missed your calling as a Vet and i don,t mean your Air Force service...nice work
Well done nurse! Your instincts were right on. Harder working on a human or a cow? I know which way i lean. (Canadian RN)
Great work Josh. Sometimes as cattlemen you need to think on your feet and time is of the essence.
Good on you in buying the correct tools for next time. Hopefully there isn’t one. 👍🏻👍🏻
Wow. Kudos.
Josh, my brother, what an amazing story. Been way too long since we last talked. Hope all is well with you. The farm looks great. Let's try to keep in touch and get in touch
thanks Dave, yep....we do need to catch up!
Thanks for a great vid, reminds me of my farm days in Highpoint NC back in 1954.
Wow! What a story with a great ending. Thanks for sharing so more cows have a chance.
My goat ate waaaaaay too many pears and then my mom gave her a bunch of watermelon for a few days without me knowing. My goat got so bloated she was like that blueberry girl on Willy wonka. I just lifted her front end straight up and she burped it out naturally. Had to do this like every couple hours for a few days. Just letting people know if your animal is small enough to just lift up, don’t go poking holes in them when you don’t have to
Drenching with vegetable oil, warm water, and baking soda also helps get rid of the foam.
You are correct, Cows like those Acorns. I had one get out of the fence and was cleaning those Acorns up, fortunately she didn't eat enough before I got to her. The but is she didn't want to leave those acorns and I had a terrible time running her off and getting her back in the fence.
Awesome you were there
O man good job im glad you were able to save the cow
Dr. Pol showed us trochar’s on his shows. Fantastic tool!
Josh. I appreciate and respect everything you do and say. Public speaking is not easy. If I don’t care for something I can turn you off. Keep doing your thing. I learn something every episode. Just thinking out loud. Do people keep triage kits in their pastures for these occasions?
God gave you a gift to care for animals. God bless
Thank you for sharing. Good info to have in the arsenal. Stay safe up there and keep on growing 🤠
Yep well done Josh, I remember bloat only too well with cattle and yes you gotta act quick and do what you gotta do.
I have no other words but THANK YOU!! Very informative and helpful!! WHOO!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
I lose a goat 1 year ago to bloat. Tried everything but a gas release hole. After it was all over I wish I would have tried releasing the gas like you did. Great video Josh.
Is been here in Kansas today spouse to be in the negatives and last week was like -31 can’t wait for garden season
Great job Josh! We have done that with goats before but not cows. Thanks for showing us the right tool. Blessings
blessing to you too! Stay warm out there...see ya at Turtle Island in April I hope!
One of your best videos yet Josh!
Yikes. A little scary there. Must have been very gratifying to see her respond so quickly and well.
We had a trocar about the size of your bigger one, but never had to use it. The animal husbandry class in Vo-Ag had a description of it one day and someone, maybe the teacher, had seen it done.
Josh I had to do the same thing with my pocket knife one time. I was way out back and Trocar was up at barn. We got him in barn and had to decompress his the second time as he tart to bloating again. We left Trocar in him for about 12 hours and did fine.
Elephants act the same way with births, deaths, and grief.
Good save of that cow. Interesting tool, I have heard of them before but never seen one until now. Thanks for sharing your story.
Arnold used one to kill a terrorist in the movie true lies. Never saw one before that.
Thanks for educating us suburbanites!
Great video !! Heard about that watching dr pole 👍🏼so u did the right thing !! U saved his life 👍🏼🙏
Well done sir.
Good information, thanks sir.
Great video Josh thank you. I did not know this until Greg Judy talked about it, we had acorns and my 14 month old steers loved them. We didn't have a ton of them so no I'll effects.
Awesome man, nice job, and thanks for sharing. Learned a good EM farm/vet tip.
Well done god bless
I remember as a kid my dad's friend used a water hose. He fed and guided that hose down the cow's mouth into it's stomach. My dad said the air poured out and was the most foul smelling air.
Great video
Old timers used to carry a long thin pocket knife called a cow cutter just for bloat.
Good job man, we about lost our hole herd last fall. One field of dallas grass got infected with some type of fungus. We had to punch quite a few of ours with one of them, it saved most of them. I believe its called the dallas grass staggers.
150 cows Josh??? Amazing bud ❣️❣️❣️
The same thing happened to me last week with one of my sheep. Daughter accidentally fed grain the night before and we woke up to a hugely bloated ewe. We didn't have to trocar thankfully, but we're able to save her with a drench and massaging her belly and legs. She was down for 3 days but was eating hay and drinking water, then finally got up on her own. 🙏 Going to invest in the trocar though, just in case. She probably would have recovered faster, honestly.
I wonder what that heifer ate to cause bloat in the winter. He says he doesn't feed grain.
no clue what so ever, but she got into something. That's just farming, sometimes you just don't know what causes something like this...if she bloats again, she will not stay on the farm
I always seem to learn something from your videos - love that! I remember reading about the bloat in a heard of sheep that ate clover in a high school network book "Far from the Madding Crowd" by Thomas Hardy. It was extraordinary and disturbing to imagine. So sorry you lost a cow so as to learn how to save this one. So happy to see her up and about and doing well. Thank you for your informative videos and I pray that many will learn from them.
Strange as it may seem I was watching Yellowstone on Netflix last night and they had an episode where some not so nice people dropped green clover into the paddock and gave all the stock bloat. They managed to save one by sticking a long blade knife into it's side much like Josh did and it survived.
Didn't know that about the acorns... but then again I didn't have acorns in Arizona.
Good job
Good job man, i bet that was pretty wild. Keep up the great videos.
I’m liking the new hat. Really suits you Josh
Cool. Dare I say the story is moo-tivating.
Great job and quick thinking Josh!! I have seen The Incredible Dr. Pol do these alot!
Do you put out salt blocks to help with the digestive system?
Uncle was doing do maintenance on equipment that requires grease
had a 5 gallon bucket for filling grease gun (in 60s ) old Way of having to do it
anyway bucket was open unattended and a cow 🐄 was eating it head in bucket 🪣
it didn't get sick that i am aware of
I have heard of this, just never seen it done.
Good thing Josh you have Medical training.
Hi Josh! Glad you were there when you were and got to save that gals life. In terms of where to use that device, would it essentially be in the flank area towards the top? Our horses get into the acorns, known to cause colic.
I worked on a farm when I was in high school. One of the yearlings got over in the alphalfa field and bloated like this. We had to do the same thing. Used the farmers pocket knife. Sterilized (kind of) the smallest blade with a cigarette lighter. Nasty smelling mess LOL Sprayed a little purple stuff on the incision. Cow was fine in less than a minute.
I remember an old ZANE GREY Western talking about using a trocar type device for cattle eating some kind of flower? maybe Larkspur? Not really sure. I guess that YOU will have to fence off the oak trees? Blessed Be! Batman
the oaks won't have to be fenced off, I just need to be aware that on years with a bumper crop, limit exposure
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Hi Josh, Hope that ALL of Y'ALL are doing well? You send out the correct MAILING address yet? BLESSED BE! Batman
I have a question. How well do your donkeys work in protecting your livestock?
Sounds a bit like relieving air pressure for a pneumothorax mostly or doing a tracheostomy 3rd thyroidcodal notch. Some ole Navy hospital corpsman
So where do you keep your trocars on a daily basis? Do you carry them in your vehicles so they’re always at hand? Very interesting. Enjoyed the video!🐂
in my medical box in the shop
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer , Respectfully, if you need a trocar immediately, will you have enough time to go back to the shop to retrieve it, then return to the field?
What do you think she ate that caused the bloat?
not the slightest clue
👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👍👍
Wow, That must of been scary
it was a wild time!!
Regenerative Agriculture practices are the way to go for many reasons. Old School is New School!!!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Interesting. Im an ex FMF Corpsman (paramedic) and have have a fair share of lung-taps under the belt. Guess its the same principle so good to know!
The torn instead of sliceed being preferable is odd. See, field trauma surgery is a lot easier when things are sliced off. Yeah you might have to dig around a little but things tend to seal themselves off a lot more. Torn or ripped lead quite a headache because.. Well.. I don't want the heros of the ...... world to chime in with bad advice but lets just say it meant a horrible outcome for the person..
But we are dainty compared to the cows. Is this why it doesn't matter as much?
not talking about an injury talking about a sugery my brotha. A tear heals back better than a cut in alot of cases....not talking about removing a limb...talking about surgery...not trauma
well done, You look alot better without that heavy beard
I saw a video of a person using one of those and lighting the gas on fire. Wild haha
The more I learn about cattle, the more I become convinced that they're basically heavy sheep without wool.
I thought you didn't let cows into ponds or creeks. Good content.
Do you keep a Trocar with you when your with the cows. ??
nope...but it's only minutes away locked up in my "vet box"
👍🏻🇦🇺
How're the beevs doing with the cold?
bees? If that's what you're asking brother....all of the hives left or died out....such a disappointment
@StoneyRidgeFarmer . Beeves. Cattle. Stock farmer talk from one of your posts. Sorry to hear of your loss of bee stock.
bhahhaha...man I must have been tired....yes Beevs bhahhaha....a duh moment on my part 😂
That is interesting but I have heard that and that is what we did using a pocket knife
Basically just like a sucking chest wound but in the abdominal cavity.
not quite, but similar relief technique
It's not mother nature it father GOD
says Dr. Knockers??? LOL
Would you be against a video about having an animal first aid kit
Good idea for sure
You might have to change your name from nurse Josh to Doctor Josh.
This story seemed to go on forever, christ!
Where are the 150 cows?
50
@StoneyRidgeFarmer you said 150 but you had been talking about your acres.
Thanks for the reply.
To Bad you can't show the procedure because of the weak stomach City dwellers at YT .
Bc of the owners of YT
I bet he didn’t have the camera with him. Wouldn’t have wanted to mess around setting it up anyway.
I can show the procedure, but this happened and I had to act immediately, no camera
exactly
youtube would let me show this, i'm sure of that
If I may, I suggest when you edit these videos, get rid of the over explaining. You tend to tell us the same thing 5, 6 or 7 times. It feels like you're trying to teach a bunch of kindergarteners who are hyped up on sugar and playing dodgeball. Just a friendly critique.
Thanks this is helpful, I explain in detail and sometimes repeat it….public speaking and educating 101 my friend
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer. I agree Josh. I'd rather have you go into detail as much as possible
Sometimes repeating multiple times is good. My Friend!
@@DV-ol7vt. You are not wrong
Yeah he talks to much
please stop calling young cattle "cows"
Thanks what should I call them?
Sounds like someone has beef with your vernacular
