One of the most difficult songs to sing! She killed it. I went to a live concert of hers praying she would sing this and she did! Killed it live too! So underrated! A complete performance. Not only vocally but acting wise. She was wonderful in a supporting role in this movie as a nightclub singer that a lonely Holly Hunter patronizes.
Queen Latifah is in fact a very well-rounded and versatile entertainer! She can act, rap, and sing! I've loved her rendition of this classic from the first time I heard it. She is one of the few performers who pronounces the word distingue' correctly when singing this song! Great reaction JJ!!
I have been a fan of Dana "Queen Latifah" Owens from way back when we worked at The Wiz Newark! Loved hearing her sing Jazz standards, wore out this soundtrack till she released this song on her CD (album). The movie is pretty good as well!
Queen could always sing, but the film that this comes from, Living Out Loud, not only is it a masterpiece that never got its due, but it totally pushed for Queen’s incredible voice and ability to do jazz standards with the quality of the greats like Ella and Dinah… She’s a national treasure and her singing is fantastic here. A constant listen for me along with the rest of the fantastic soundtrack that accompanies the film. I only wish we had a Blu-ray edition of the movie so I could upgrade my ancient DVD… Check the movie out, and go deeper by listening to Queen sing Goin’ Out of my Head and Be Anything (But Be Mine) from this film, along with a song called Give Me Something Real by Clark Anderson, who plays her “boyfriend” in the film. Show stopping material. Excellent reaction!
Queen Latifah did two jazz albums in the 2000’s. She released her first jazz album in 2004 and her second one in 2007!! You have to listen to both of those to get the full experience of her singing jazz!! You will be even more blown away!!
Billy Strayhorn wrote "Lush Life" in 1936, but held onto it until 1948. Nat King Cole popularized it in 1949. Harry James, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan, John Coltrane and a dozen others turned it into a jazz standard with their versions released in the fifties and sixties. Queen Latifah really shows off her talents here. Very nice!
Dana Owen's is a actual Jazz singer as well as a phenomenal Rapper. She is a multi-talented entertainer, and released a Jazz Album in 2004 as her 5th album.
Yes, indeed. Dana “Queen Latifah” Owens is a multi talented beauty. She’s even put out albums of other genres, including jazz. Nothing new to many people, including me😊but glad this clip was submitted. I haven’t seen it in a long time.❤❤❤❤💃🏾👏🏾👏🏾🌟🎼🎵🎶 She was even nominated for an Academy Award for her role which included serious, jazz, singing in the movie version of Chicago. No boxes for the queen. My motto as well.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾☑️☑️☑️
Thanks for this reaction to Queen Latifah's wonderful performance of Lush Life. I've been a fan of Queen Latifah's singing since I heard her singing the intro to her TV series "Living Single" which premiered in 1993. You should check out Queen Latifah's jazz albums "The Dana Owens Album" (2004) and "Trav'lin' Light" (2007) (If you don't know, her birth name is Dana Owens.) For very early blues/jazz, check out her performances on the soundtrack to "Bessie" (2015) TV movie in which Queen Latifah played the title role of Bessie Smith. Another example of Queen Latifah singing early blues/jazz is her performance of "When You're Good To Mama" in the film "Chicago" (2002).
Queen definitely has the chops for this oldie but goodie! It's been covered by many singers like Billy Eckstein, Nancy Wilson, Natalie Cole, as well John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman. Since I know you love some Jazz, you should react out Coltrane and Hartman. It's really nice!
That was good. Natalie Cole does my favorite version of this, on her "unforgettable" album (covering her father's version), but I think the version with the most critical acclaim is John Coltrane's version (with Jonny Hartman).
With all due respect, what rock do you live under? Queen Latifah sings in everything she does. She even released two jazz albums: The Dana Owens Album (2004) and Trav'lin Light (2007) and earned Grammy nods for both.
There is always going to be someone say someone else is better. We have our preferences but the beauty is why not hear different versions 🙄 And I love Donna summer but this request is about the QUEEN.
@SopranoSistah it's the truth I've seen this person make make snippy comments. Like so many other people has. If that's the case make request she need to make a request through the streamlab she would like to see your welcome....lol ❤️❤️❤️
@@sugarspice1689 Thanks for your reply. You are right. She’s not the only one. There are several on this channel who often do the same thing. They only comment with something negative to say, and I’ve declared the same thing as you: If you want to see your favorite version played then make your own formal paid request instead of putting down someone else’s. Yet at the end of the day I guess this is America. It’s a free country, so people feel like they can say what they want, even if it is in poor taste or rude. I’ve never once in the several years I’ve followed this channel for fun made a negative remark about anyone’s request no matter how I felt about it. Still, to each his or her own I guess. If they can say what they say, then, so can we.😊

Yes! Living Out Loud is a perfect film!
All true. This is why Queen Latifah is now a 2023 Kennedy Center Honoree along with Dionne Warwick, Billy Crystal, Renee Flemming, and Barry Gibb!

Donna Summer covered it too on her self-titled album back in the 80s. Quincy Jones produced it.
'Fancy' Miss Nancy Wilson also does a splendid rendition of Lush Life!

This is an incredible movie, and I iwas blown away by hearing her sing jazz through this movie. She was great! I've seen her do jazz live too!

I watched her do this live. It was identical, if not better than here. Stellar
My homie straight outta JERZEE!! (NJ) "ALL HAIL THE QUEEN"🎤🌹🎶🎵🎼🔥🔥🔥
Sooooo good.❤ I keep forgetting that Queen latifah is a singer. I'm so used to seeing her in movies these days. Her voice is beautiful.❤

Thank very mush ! 💜
Jazz albums
1. Queen Latifah the Dana Owen's album, and
2. Queen Latifah's Travelin' Light.
Both are beautiful albums.
I love Queen in the movie Bessie. This song reminds me of her singing in that movie. different kind of song, but delivered with beauty.
Definitely loved that as well! I almost forgot about how she killed that!❤❤❤❤
@@SopranoSistah Didn't see though! I am very impressed with her singing this song. It's seems that a lot of rappers can sing well.

Yes so true so many renditions Dana did a beautiful job 😊
@@wakeupstopsleeping6300 She certainly did!
Wow,this was great.I’ve only ever heard her rap so this was definitely a great performance

First time I saw this was when I saw the movie ( Living Out Loud👍). Blown away. 💥. I wish she would do an album of jazz standards.
She released two jazz albums in the early 2000’s. She released one in 2004 and another one in 2007!!! You would listen to both of those!!
She released two and earn Grammy nods for both.
What JJ you didn't know?.....lol yes Ms. Dana can spit lyrics, sing, act brick city very newark own great request ❤️🔥💯💥

Since we're on Queen Latifah you should check out her best song that's dedicated to her brother titled Winky's Theme!!!!
I did that entire album already, check it out!
Ok how about So Many Reasons by INTRO produced by Dave Hall the guy that produced a bulk of Mary J. Blige's debut album What's The 411?
