Hey Bailey- you need to set your draft budget during the preseason. They changed the game this year and basically require you to set aside the money in order to use it for draft signing.
this isn't necessarily true. as long as you have budget room, you can use any of that excess to sign draftees. as long as you're paying slot or below, you also can sign them regardless of budget
Draft Budget is a line item you can change on the Player Development tab before the season starts. It is the budget for all your signing bonuses. The evil A's owner defaults to a budget that's way below the slot value of the picks. So you have to check the Player Development tab in the offseason and set the draft budget to what you need it to be next year (which will eat money out of your pool for free agents/extensions). I wish you could adjust this mid-season. Why not, if there's budget available.
Okay so I have a question. If I set draft budget to say $8million and the player I draft is in a $6million slot but asking for $7million, would I be able to offer him what he wants if he's the first person I offer and THEN offer slot to the others even though the total would be well over $8million after doing so? Or would the game revert the offer to the slot offer or remove it after then going over the budget offering slot to the others?
You can increase your draft budget in the player development tab during the preseason. During the preseason, you can increase player development $, draft budget $, and international FA $ all from that tab, and scouting $ from the scouting tab When you do that, it will tell you the "recommended budget" for the draft based on your slots and their value, and you can choose to just do that, go over, or go under that. You can also increase player development $ to help development and increase your international FA budget $ up to whatever the cap is to help you sign players Your owner won't let you go over slot because you are exceeding the budget you set. Lets say the value of all 6 of your picks in the first 5 rounds was $19 million, and you set your budget at $20 million, then if you offered everyone slot, you would have $1 million left over, so if someone wants a little more, you can give them a little more, and whatever you don't spend goes back into your team. However, because your draft budget is set so low, your owner won't let you go a penny over slot for guys (this is all based on my gameplay in OOTP 25, if everything I just said is because of some setting I have on that you have off then my bad but I don't think so)

Draft budget is under the Player Development Tab, that's where you can set the Development budget, draft budget and international FA Budget along with seeing all your prospects in your org.
Go into Commissioner Mode and put your entire available money into your draft budget when it comes time to sign draft picks. Once their all signed, then 0 out your draft budget and you have all that money left
also for dev lab, it makes it way more fun to increase slots to like 10. Since most players arent successful, its more realistic too. Then i usually choose 3-4 months for all except one or two, which are 3-4 weeks. After those 3-4 weeks are done u can put another player in. So you can useone slot multiple times throughout off season as long as theres still time
When you were looking at draft prospects, always make sure to check their full ratings. Schoolcraft was a true 2 way prospect and a better bat prospect than a pitcher
not 100% certain but I don't believe you need a license to use names, only for images/likenesses. I think there is an age cutoff; in Football Manager it's 16.

Unique pick for sure but doesn't mean he was best pick. Still, a lefty stopper (45 control too low for a starter) with random power in his bat and defensive potential at 1B (6'8) is a lot of versatility. Might have been overlooked a little bit.
I've simmed 2024 half a dozen times now and Tarik Skubal has won the AL Cy Young all 6 times. Seeing how he's performing in your sim has only reinforced to me that he's the most consistent superstar pitcher in the OOTP 2025 model
Julio Rodriguez is the most overrated player in the game right now. He’s just not that good. He’s not even playing good defense. He looks like he doesn’t know where he is
He’s had a subpar start to the season, sure, but he’s only 23! And he’s still stealing bases like nobody’s business, the offense is going to come along just fine.

Bailey, you should start keeping track of your players’ zone runs. OOTP’s version of DRS or UZR. Can dramatically impact your pitchers’ development if you have players with massively negative ZR. Can really moneyball OOTP with a good defense and pitching staff that fits it

Thoroughly enjoying the series. I've picked up OOTP maybe 4 times over the years. This is making me want to give it a go again.
Same but every time I find out. Foolish is what makes this game fun 😆 it is way too complicated for my girl brain.
Even in fiction the Mariners choke at the last moment
In this foolish ootp reality, the Mariners have missed the playoffs three straight years by a combined 4 games
Next years OOTP should have a system where you can mutiny against the owner and force them to do your bidding.
Hire a PI with team finances to blackmail the owner with incriminating photos
a feature where you’re able to revolt and distribute the team to the locals packers-style
I’m going to take this as a predictor for real life, my Guards are sweeping the Dodgers in the World Series!! WOOOOO

Really enjoying the "Bailey Beane" series of videos

Sweet both my teams win the world series back to back. Thank you for guaranteeing these results irl as well Bailey.
