- A new strain of Covid19 found in the UK has essentially cancelled Christmas in Ireland, with the Government reinstating most of the restrictions and putting Ireland back into Level 5 lockdown - with some exceptions (for now). Restrictions will increase after December 27th and New Years? Fuhgeddaboutit!

Your public official sounds like ours in the States with their "Do as I say not as I do" crap. California Gov Newsom issued stay at home orders and avoid indoor gatherings then went to a indoor B-Day party at a fancy restaurant, White House Chief of Staff Meadows hosted his daughters wedding with 70+ guests, and Denver Colorado's Mayer Hancock jumped on a plane and flew to Mississippi for Thanksgiving after telling everyone not to travel or gather for the holidays! It's like they think that since they make the rules then they must be above the rules as well! As long as you guys are safe though that's the important thing, public officials can always be replaced, family, even online virtual ones, can't be replaced as easily! 😉
Don’t forget Pelosi going to a hair salon that she shut down to get a blowout. Also Oregon officials locking down the state the going on vacation to Hawaii and Mexico.

Christmas is not canceled, events and activities taken for granted yes maybe canceled or modified but neither the day, nor is the "Reason for the Season" canceled. So take a deep breath consider what you do have vs what you don't, what you can do vs what you cannot and realize there are some folks at this time who would trade places with you in a heart beat. "Ok off my soap box." Millie content snuggled up in Alex's lap living her best life :)

That absolutely sucks. I live in the US and our county attorney has said that he won't file charges against any business who violates the restrictions in place and the county police will not respond to calls about restrictions.
I can only apologise for our government’s usual incompetence. I am in tier 3 in England and our Christmas plans have dramatically changed. We found out there’s a 3rd strain today and I think everyone is on the verge of cracking again. On the bright side, my grandmother received her first dose of the vaccination today! Stay safe!

@@apwmojack Every country is affected and needs to do their part. Unfortunately the size of the USA without a single unified response has allowed the virus to continue to spread. Where it started doesn't matter when those in charge didn’t do enough to block spread into the US. The lock downs weren't consistent enough or long enough this past year, so now everyone is relying on hope for the vaccines instead of being responsible. These vaccines could take another 6 months or more to get wise spread enough to get back to something approaching normal.

@@apwmojack Why is the overall mortality rate lower? Probably because everyone is staying home. Less travel means fewer accidents. Death tolls have also surged since your numbers, and will again after the cases surge again following the holiday get togethers.
As far as Christmas being canceled, I bought a thick cheeseburger with everything & fries to soothe my disappointment...and a bottle of Fireball whiskey to wash it down...

We have lots of people out sick from work. The company that I work for has made clear that they do not intend to stop work for any reason. Merry Christmas!
I can do ya one better. My bosses wife had it and he knew she had it and continued to come to work. He didn't get tested until they made him get tested.. and he still came to work while waiting for the results. And THEN he tested positive AND STILL CAME TO WORK! Now I'm an electrician so we aren't really in close contact thankfully but what makes me angriest of all is that the supervisor he's training has to be on immunosuppressants for his kidney transplant. And as of last Thursday he (the supervisor in training) was admitted to the hospital for coughing up blood. I'm so angry I have no words.

My province (Ontario) in Canada is on lockdown as of Boxing Day. It sucks

Well it's good to know a virus only infects people between 10pm and 5 am . That's not stupid now is it .and the new variant is scary how. What's it's mortality rate ? Notice they never mention that . I'm personally not scared if .03% hell driving has a higher risk factor and I ain't about to start walking .
There should not be a curfew. People know the risks of going out by now. The government should not tell people when they can or cannot go outside.

The CA governor is still getting heat for going to an expensive restaurant & having a gathering last month. After telling people to keep social distancing... its ridiculous that they can't figure out how to follow their own advice.

The hypocrisy of some politicians is ridiculous and infuriating. The Governor and his wife in my state here in the US both tested positive for Covid after attending a Christmas party at the WH but urges people to use common sense and not gather in large crowds 🤦♀️.

I kind of understand about the holidays being cancelled. I was in the hospital due to Covid on Thanksgiving and I now have pneumonia as an after effect so I get to miss Christmas as well.

A friend of mine got it at work (she works at a hospital, nobless), ans spent most of Hanukkah alone in the basement, sheltered from the hubby and kids. They told her to walk outside 15 minutes 2x/day to avoid the pneumonia. Thankfully, her symptoms weren't bad

@Christopher Tysen Henriksen I do feel ‘lucky’, I guess. My mother’s boyfriend’s daughter-in-law’s mother recently died without being in a high risk category, at 63. My mother’s best friend’s brother’s friend died back in April. My husband’s boss’ neighbor died in June. The last two I mentioned were both over 75 years of age. I wasn’t being flippant, merely curious. I’m sorry if that made you feel defensive. I wear my mask and wash my hands, and only go where I must.
