Just got mine the other day and are installed Tubelessly (is that a new word) on my Emonda Sl with Aeolus RSL 37s, and they feel amazing! Can't wait to really test them out!

A lot of people here don't seem to be getting it.
Pirelli are saying that they've nudged the puncture resistance down to MATCH that of their immediate competitors, and in doing so their tyre is now the fastest, because of this new compound.
These things are a bit intangible though, and hard to test definitively.
But unless I can get a pair for under £40 each, I shan't be trying them anyway, I'll stick with my Schwalbe Pro One TLRs which are fast, and a good balance of cost vs. performance.

On the Pro Ones, I did a neighborhood left turn at 28 mph and didn’t fall. They were used for years by previous owner too, quite happy with their performance.

I bought a set of Pro Ones because it was all anyone had at the time. I honestly couldn't really tell a difference betweent them and the GP5000 that followed nor the race tires before them. I did a granfondo on them and the grip was great.

So the new TLR non-RS (is there one?) would be slightly heavier but with superior puncture resistance? Sounds like the perfect tire.

I have had really good luck on the older version of the TLR's, and to me, if they over engineered the tire to improve puncture performance, I am on board with that. A minor number of grams to not get a puncture is worth it to me. My first set lasted around 3600 miles and I only had to replace them due to getting a side wall cut. I have a set on another bike that is approaching 4K no punctures since they have been installed. I find them very easy to install on my rims as well, and have them in both 28 and 30mm versions, but wouldn't mind running them in a 32 when my 30's are ready for replacement.

I've been riding the same 18 mile loop, once a week for around 25 years (amongst others of course). But this loop is my comparison one. When I bought these tires, I excitedly put them on my bike and noticed immediately that the wheels spun about 2% faster. When I rode the 18 mile loop, I got home in 58:12mins. (It's a bit hilly). Honestly guys, it's unbelievable. These tires were so fast I went about 7 minutes slower than my best ever time. But that's because I was wearing my short socks, not the aero ones. And there were some roadworks on the road near Shincliffe so I had to stop at a red light. When I went around the corner near the Esso garage, a bus was coming the other way and I had to brake suddenly because of how fast I was going. Needless to say, I stopped so fast, I went forwards over the handlebars. These tires are so awesome, I'm going to start spelling them "TYRES". Just wow.

There's a vast difference between a high performance road or motorcycle tire where weight is the second or third consideration and a bicycle tire where low weight in competition is paramount. That's for racing. For ordinary use, puncture resistance ranks first.

I don't know about you guys/gals, but I would prefer better puncture protection as I am not riding in the tour. I ride in RL where I don't have a team to swap me a bike another $20,000 bike if I get a flat. My Giant carbon bike's tires hit a small piece of glass and the tires punctured. 700x25's were just to easy to puncture. I switched to some GP 5000's in 30's. Got a more comfortable ride and a bit better puncture protection.

      @paulgrimshaw8334 Місяць тому

@@govermentsoundsystemrootik8887Oh come on. What kind of crap tires are you buying for a car that cost €50? A decent quality passenger car tire costs about €140 each. A good high performance car tire is easily €200-250 each. What would I classify as “decent” or “good”? Name brand, with a speed and load rating specified by the car manufacturer.
I bought a set of Conti Contact Plus (general purpose bike tires) for €50 each. They’re good at what they do (resist puncture, keep the rim off the road) but weight in the order of 800g each.
When it comes to a *racing* tire for a bicycle, you’re looking at a specialized product that operates at very high pressure, has extremely low weight, and minimal rolling resistance. These requirements demand special materials and construction techniques, which add to the cost. That cost has to be weighed against a fairly low sales volume because it’s a product that serves a niche segment of the market. So the price goes up. It’s called “pay to play”.

@@govermentsoundsystemrootik8887 I don't know what type of car tyre you buy, but a Pirelli P Zero Sport costs in the usual sizes 150-300€ per piece, you need 4. ;) If you want a sticky tire for a sports car, like a P Zero Corsa, you can easily pay double of that. Of course, if you compare it low end car tires it seems expensive, but you can also get a Schwalbe Lugano or a Vittoria Zaffiro for 10€ or chinese ones for 5€.

And now on conti 5000 Str. won races in Conti. Flatted every single tyre etc. Pirelli looks good and haven’t tried them but with my track record of one flat in the last 4 years on conti I’ll stay there.
Saw a ton of Pirelli fail on my friends bikes in the same time. It’s tough to choose but training makes the difference with a quality tyre that works. No magic here.

There are strong incentives to use different tires for training and racing. One needn’t offer ultimate speed. It must be durable. The other can offer a different set of trade offs. I think a lot of problems occur when riders choose a racing tire for recreational or training use.
I’m not a racer. If I was, I’d have several tire/rim combinations, one of which would be at a practical end of the scale.
