A cover is not trying to "fix" the original, it's simply paying tribute. I think it's fantastic, it's powerful and fresh to listen to. Opeth is a good example, their covers are simply amazing tributes to some of rock's greatest songs.
I have not felt so good about music in a LOOONG time. I had been lost in the radio and forgotten my love of Prog Rock. My Eyes are reopened and my mind is reawakend, Thank you Glass Hammer! Consider me as a big a fan as of Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis (Gabriel), Gentle Giant, I could go on. Please be doing shows in L.A. soon.
after hearing the original hundreds of times... hard to judge this on first listen. I definitely liked the end guitar solo. You brought something new to it.
Who could've predicted that GH's Jon would take on the lead vocals with YES in 2012, three years after this video was posted? I like this interpretation of what is already a perfect song by YES.
Most excellent. Naysayers will say what they want... and need not apply. As an aside, I like Joe Cocker's interpretation of the Beatles' music, too. To hear the original, dial up Yes. To hear a great interpretation, I love the above selection. To each his own, but I just love Glass Hammer and its total work.
no their singer is Jon Anderson. Jo(h)n Davison is a hired squealer that plays with Steve Howe's band. The real lead singer is still with YES featuring Anderson Rabin and Wakeman...P.S. Steve Howe is the greatest guitar player ever,,before you squeal at me...Benoit was better than fucking Davison
Michael Beerbados Jon A plays in a tribute band with a keyboardist who only comes round for the beer money, and a guitarist who cant hack classic Yes lmao.
Michael Beerbados, wow, way to bring the hate. I have some unfortunate news for you, life is ephemeral, constantly changing. YES has had so many different lineups it’s a fool’s errand to attempt to pigeonhole the entity that is YES into one discrete monolithic categorization. Why not just enjoy music that appeals to you without the need to disparage or cast aspersions on those who, of good faith and heart, pay tribute to or emulate the originators of the music by performing it live decades and centuries after it was created? IMHO I whole heartedly believe life would suck without live music, and without musicians/players, vocalists and song writers there’d be no live music, it’s a cohesive whole dependent on the constituent individual parts. Like life, enjoy it while you can, while it lasts, in any way shape or form you can get it.
SPOCK'S BEARD "IS" THE PROG BOMB!!!! - WITH NEIL OR WITHOUT - WITH NICK OR WITHOUT - THEY FORGE AHEAD LIKE THE PRO'S THEY ARE - WITH SPECIAL REGARD TO BASSIST "DAVE MEROS" - WHO, NOT ONLY IS ONE HELLUVA BASSIST, IS A GENUINELY GREAT GUY!! I WAS WEANED ON YES, ELP, PINK FLOYD, T.RUNDGREN'S-"A WIZARD, A TRUE STAR",ESPECIALLY EARLY-'80'S-BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF "GENESIS". THE "BEARD" ARE THE BEST PROG BAND, TOO HAPPEN MY WAY SINCE I 1ST HEARD GENESIS' "THE LAMB..." IN '75.LOOK FOR NEW S.B. DVD!!
@jonLyndon . THis is a girl sining....Susie Bogdanowich (sic) JOn Davison didn't join until their last two albums. I think if you know the sotry behind this album and why the song was included, you'll see how they perfprmed it just the way it needed to be to match the story.
I heard this song on Deep Tracks ( Sirius XM Radio Station ). I thought I’d see if UA-cam had a video of it on UA-cam and low and behold it was so I’m listening to it. Sounds Pretty Good. Kind of reminds of of the version from the Band Geeks which is a Really Good version as well when I first heard them playing it on UA-cam. Years later Jon Anderson actually called them up and now Jon Anderson is touring with them. Even though it will Never be the Original YES but it’s Pretty Damn Close to IT in my Opinion.
With this song I started listening to Glasshammer. I didn't know the band before... personally I think it's better than the version of Yes. (no offence mr. Jon) 🤭
A river a mountain to be crossed The sunshine in mountains sometimes lost Around the south side so cold that we cried Were we ever colder on that day a million Miles away It seemed from all of eternity Move forward was my friends only cry In deeper to somewhere we could lie And rest for the the day with cold in the way Were we ever colder on that day a million Miles away It seemed from all of eternity ah The moments seemed lost in all the noise A snow storm a stimulating voice Of warmth of the sky of warmth when you die Were we ever warmer on that day a million Miles away We seemed from all of eternityyy ah La la la la la la la la la, la la la la la La la la la la la, la la la, la la la la la La la la la la la la la la, la la la la la La la la la la la, la la la, la la la la la La la la la la la la la la, la la la la La la la la la la, la la la, la la la la La la la la la The moments seemed lost in all the noise A snow storm a stimulating voice Of warmth of the sky of warmth when we die Were we ever warmer on that day a million Miles away We seemed from all of eternityyy ah The sunshine in mountains sometimes lost The river can disregard the cost And melt in the sky of warmth when you die Were we ever warmer on that day a million miles away We seemed from all of eternityyy ah eee ah eee ah eee ah !!!
I actually kind of like it. The verse sections are really restrained and that adds to the tension. I still prefer the original, mainly because Howe's guitar playing absolutely tears it up and it's about as bombastic as prog gets. It's a terrific song regardless.
Because go fuck yourself, that's why, +Sander Geudens! Who the fuck are you to tell people that they can not cover a song? You might as well arrest people for singing the song and also criticize every single damn person that has ever sang this song with your brand of moronic pseudo-logic.
mattleemattlee123, and speaking of blockheads, here you are commenting on this video. Maybe you should go to something that is a bit more towards your musical level, namely "The Barney Song?"
one improvement on the original... Howe's guitar always sounded like he was playing it with a hacksaw blade. Ability unproduced. This is milder and better. Going for the one sounded bloody awful even tho the music was brilliant
ah, the bath house version of yes... the squeal of autotune, programmed piano, and vocals that show off singing ability rather than have meaning. I guess this truly is the age of stink
I’m sure these guys will just pack it in now. Thanks for your wonderful astute comment. You’ve may have saved the world. You are the true pinnacle of humanity.
Admirable, but you cannot reach the abilities of th greatest band ever...And no one can quite get to Jon Anderson's vocals..not even a great woman singer..She is reaching here, and needs the tuner, you can hear ir
I think they went with a woman to more just put a different spin on it, not sound like Jon Anderson..Glass Hammer will give the nod to Jon Anderson on this one, I know the people in the band and they love Yes. Pretty cool Jon himself sang at the beginning of this one and another song on their album.
It's OK...if you enjoy sequenced drums and super-processed, over-distorted neo-Van Halen guitar sounds. Could have been good, but the blockheads today don't know how to create music without the over-use of technology. Hint: if a machine does the work, it sounds like A MACHINE. The human touch is missing. (The middle section [la la la part] is a dead-nuts copy of the original...except they have the ever-present chorus taking all the character out of the vocals.) Oh well, nice try.
One of my favorite Yes songs....probably the best cover of it here....
Never heard of these guys before. Really glad I came across them
Yes and Glass Hammer- 2 great takes on a great song. Stop comparing. Like them both in their own way!
I phreaking love this song, and this band, Glass Hammer, does a splendid version of it. This is a very tight band.
A cover is not trying to "fix" the original, it's simply paying tribute. I think it's fantastic, it's powerful and fresh to listen to.
Opeth is a good example, their covers are simply amazing tributes to some of rock's greatest songs.
GH proves how talented they are as arrangers as well has having serious chops.
An ambitious endeavor, well-executed. It takes exceptional skill and courage to cover a Yes song.
Especially this Yes song.... :-)
I have not felt so good about music in a LOOONG time. I had been lost in the radio and forgotten my love of Prog Rock. My Eyes are reopened and my mind is reawakend, Thank you Glass Hammer! Wow. Just wow. Breathtaking. Congratulations.
A very respectful cover of a classic YES song. Great work, all of you in Glass Hammer. Fantastic.
Awesome! I had never heard of these guys before someone directed me to this video. I'll be checking them out.
Jon Anderson's vocals in the background are cool, love this!
Excellent, fun filled rendition of a great piece. Wonderful to see younger artists preserving these undoubtedly classic pieces.
Thanks just discovered this a great version but still find YES live in Montreux the best of all.
Original yet faithful recreation of a great tune. Excellent playing, vocals, and production.
Well done, Glass Hammer, you nailed it!
John Smallshaw thank you
THIS PERFORMANCE IS INCREDIBLE! I have lost track of just how many times I have listened to it. A great version of an awesome song by YES.
Amazing cover! I'm a huge Yes fan from Buenos Aires and totally loved it! Great work!
Great cover of an already great song. Love the mix with Jon Anderson's backing vocals :)
Fantastic version of a great song. GH put their own spin on it while remaining faithful to the original.
Outstanding tune
.
Very nice interpretation of a very under-rated Yes song!
Great cover, I love this song so much its seriously creeping in to being my favorite yes song
A great version of a YES song from my favorite album of theirs:"FRAGILE"!!
A truly brilliant cover of one of Yes's best pieces, and the high point of the _Culture of Ascent_ album.
Aren 't they great? A friend turned me on to them when we were driving up to see Yes late last year. Jon Anderson does background vocals on this song.
I love the vocals on this. I think this is a beautiful arrangement.
An astounding cover.
Holy shit!!! One of the greatest cover songs of all time!!!!!!!!
This is my favorite cover ever, I think. So incredible. It's a song I can crank and disappear right into!
after hearing the original hundreds of times... hard to judge this on first listen. I definitely liked the end guitar solo. You brought something new to it.
YES put their signature on songs they covered. I appreciate a band that will do the same to any YES song. Kudos going out to Glass Hammer!
DavidRT thank you 🙏!!!
This band is very, very underrated.
I really hope that Jon and Mr. Howe appreciate this beautiful cover of their beautiful song!!!.
Owned that bad boy!
That was awesome.
Wonderfully played!
I love this version! Thanks for posting!
I think this was well done. Especially the middle section. |I love that part.
This cover is magnificent.
Oh! Wonderful!
hermosa version, primer cover que escucho de yes, mi grupo favorito
Who could've predicted that GH's Jon would take on the lead vocals with YES in 2012, three years after this video was posted? I like this interpretation of what is already a perfect song by YES.
Good interpretation
Wow, This is Awsome.
Its a Yes Cover
I agree 100 per cent!

Love it
Excellent
Really nice!
excellent rendition. Their current singer is the YES front man, Jon Davison
no their singer is Jon Anderson.

To me Glass Hammer is beyond a simple cover band. It has itself a magnificent style within the prog rock scenery.
OMG they do so much more than cover songs. They have a lot of original tunes
Rick Wakeman must have lol'ed at that keyboard performance! :P I did at least
sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!1
the majestic song

This is epic o_o
i think this reminds me a song by Yes, or King Crimson
I remember hearing that verse o.o

Love me Yes
Love me Glass Hammer
Simple as
Nailed it...
And I'll add this: I would even like to see some Punk era band to cover any YES song or any prog song with their personality stamped on it.....
really really good version - take it from a yes fan :D

They'll be here next month and I couldn't be bothered. Squire's intentionally leaving Anderson out and he (Jon) doesn't even know why....?
The order of this song is almost like a Palindrome.
I actually kind of like it. The verse sections are really restrained and that adds to the tension. I still prefer the original, mainly because Howe's guitar playing absolutely tears it up and it's about as bombastic as prog gets. It's a terrific song regardless.
anybody that takes the time to cover South Side of the Sky is OK with me
Both versions have their merits. I like the vocals in this one better, but I like the more prominant bass in the original.
@thedoortobelle behave yerself. music was created before electricity. Abilty should always precedent technology
Why does it have to be in 240p it deserves so much better.
Guys in the band,go full female lead vocals, while you still can.
They didn't slam the door shut 🤔
❤
hm... Im pretty sure Ive heard this song before, but neither by Yes nor Glass Hammer... what more band have covered this song?
I believe Spock's Beard also covered it.
Me too.... this isn't quite the way I first heard a woman sing this song
Who's the lead singer?
Now why would I even think of doing that, when there's nothing wrong with the original???
Because go fuck yourself, that's why, +Sander Geudens! Who the fuck are you to tell people that they can not cover a song? You might as well arrest people for singing the song and also criticize every single damn person that has ever sang this song with your brand of moronic pseudo-logic.
Really nice cover, but the guitar solo at the end shreds it a little bit.
wonderful. Im amazed Americans do real prog x
Wow, how very bigoted and elitist of you, +mensamoo.
Lol..I live in Kansas..and love Prog. Glass Hammer is my fave.
Yeah, we have a couple, don't forger about KANSAS
;)
Specifically, GFTO.
