The open channels which is why I stopped with 3 midfielders. Moving to a 3-2-3 type set up in which becomes a 3-4-1 when not in possession really helps

When you have two good central midfielders then it works quite well. Unfortunately I only have one.

Hi there. I used tacticalPad for this video. 4v4 is a great way to start. Two big goals with goalies in a 25x20 pitch. You will get many shot and many restarts. Then you build up to 5v5, and then 6v6 with the field getting bigger and bigger. You allow the players to experience the situation of restarting and then point out movements that worked, in this case, building up. For example, if the goalie plays the ball to the right, and this leads to getting the ball passes the midway line, identify why it occurred. Was there ma overload on the left the gang goalie identified, was there a gap on the defense? These are questions that players can get asked. It’s important to identify two things during the build up, where is the open space and how many players they have defending. This usually determines how many players help on the build up. I hope this makes sense, let me know if it doesn’t. Thank your or your question. Cheers!

Hello and thank you for your comment. Yes, there are countries that are big on the no heading rule. I would encourage coaches and teams to still work on controlling or shooting aerial balls as that is an important part of the game. So, instead of focusing on a finish with the head, emphasize shooting off the volley. This is difficult of course but practice makes perfect. It is important that players get used to playing with aerial balls coming at them so that once heading is allowed it is just another skill to master rather than a feared skill to learn.
