Can I ask what the provenance or inspiration for the steps is, please? The costumes, music etc all seem very English, but the only thing like the actual dance I've seen is Scottish ladies' step dance - was that an influence, or parallel evolution?
Hello Jacob During the Regency period and before, English dancers would have danced reels. In two of his books, dancing master Thomas Wilson describes some traditional reels and some reels of his invention (from 1809 onward). He also mentions steps which are better explained in Alexander Strathy's book in 1822; All these documents helped us to make this dance proposition using the well-known Dorset four hands reel which gives us the opportunity to do stepping. Hence the costumes too Hope I have answered your query Thank you for watching. C.L
