I'm another Ronald, however, slightly younger at 2 months shy(Iam NOT shy)of my 86th. We are fortunate to have lived during the greatest times of music.
thomasahern5650, so this is 2 years late but, how wonderful to discover your dad among these Stars! June Christy was one of my favourites, I too was a professional singer long ago, *A n d* my last name's the same spelling as yours 😅 Cheers from Toronto, Canada
I saw Kenton's band live back in the late 60's. It was the most unswinging band I ever heard, and I saw them all! If I didn't come with other people I would have walked out. The band in this video is completely different as it's coming from the tail end of the swing era.
Herman and Stan were all over the place in the 70s. Collateral damage from the Beatles with ghastly trousers, sideburns to die for, Flowery shirts and hair like Tarzan. And boring music.
Loved his music then, and now, aged 88, still do. Thanks Stan. England, September, 2024.

Superb Stan! They once played MUSIC!
Thank you for posting this one , you have some great shots of the guitarist, who just happens to be my dad, Robert “Bob” Ahern!
How great is that!?
My mother sang with Stan Kenton a year or so before this was filmed. Have a photo of her on from of the Stan Kenton van.

What an absolute treat of a video!!!

Good Heavens, this is Stan Kenton and June Christy in 1947! I was only 2 years old. Bur "Artistry i Rhythm" was already around my ears!
Tommy Dorsey told Stan he was ruining the business. Get the couples dancing again!!!
I was really fortunate to see The Stan Kenton Orchestra in 1975 at The Riverboat in NYC. It turned me into a fan of big band music.
June has such beautiful inflection. The Master
I didn't know that Shelley Manne was with Stan Kenton.
June Christy is the absolute best, isn't she?
Nice
No jazz band was more brass top heavy. A distinctive sound.
notice Stan never employed any black sidemen. But great track of Nat singing Orange colored sky
Was Art Pepper in this line up?
We saw the band in 1972 and Pepper had already left the band. A shame, he was one of my all-time favorites!
Is that Stan Getz in the saxophone section?
Yep it is
The two tenor sax players in this clip are Vido Musso on the left and Bob Cooper on the right.
