Lee Kernaghan is an Aussie county singer. He was granted access to letters held at the Australian War Memorial archives. These letters were from Aussie diggers at war, sent back home to their families. The stories revealed in the letters formed the basis for the songs on Lee's album 'Spirit Of The Anzacs', released in 2015 as a project commemorating 100 years since the landings at Gallipoli.
All Australian and New Zealand people are united as one when it counts. I have first nation heritage from both countries and am so damn proud of our ANZAC legend and spirit. They fought because it was right to do so. They fought as brothers and sisters. And still do.💖
What a wonderful song. Must listen again. My grandmothers brother WW1 was killed in Belgium and buried there. My Father was in WW2, came home safely. My daughter’s husband has just retired from the army, a stint in Afghanistan then full time fitness instructor in the army - I’ll miss him looking gorgeous in his uniform in his slouch hat with his medals. He’s now grown his hair a bit, growing a beard and wears scruffy jeans now😂 but still gorgeous. Proud of all our Aussie soldiers.
"Spirit of the Anzacs" is the first single from Lee Kernaghan's 2015 album of the same name. The charity single features Guy Sebastian, Sheppard, Jon Stevens, Jessica Mauboy, Shannon Noll and Megan Washington. Would really recommend the rest of the Album, the whole album is dedicated to the the "Diggers". The songs give you an idea of what conflicts our boys and girls have fought in and a little of what they went through.
That was amazing, I have to watch it again because I can't stop crying! My great uncle flew bombers to protect Australia, I only knew him by his uniform, medals and war record! We must honour our service men and women, the unselfishness, caring and bravery is what Australia is all about! (The grey hair was Jon Stevens) Thanks for that guys! 😭🫂❤️
So proud to be Australian 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 And the one you thought was Lee Kernaghan was Jon Stevens lead singer of noiseworks.. And you guys are honorary Aussies ❤❤❤🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 we love you!!!
My grandfather fought in Egypt and then on the Western Front, in France and Belgium, during WW1. He did survive but with scars, internally and externally. Love you Pop. RIP. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
“I was only 19” by Redgum gives a less nostalgic story of war lived by Australian soldiers during Vietnam. Another classic is “And the Band played Waltzing Matilda”.
The guy whose voice you commented on is Jon Stevens, another amazing Aussie vocalist. The young guy and blue haired girl are part of the band Shepard. The rest you would recognis3. And yes, Lee K is the guy with the cowboy hat
@@zellyjordan yes born in Lower Hutt however most of the artists I have enjoyed over the years have if they want a career have to move to Aussie, not so bad these days if internationally famous they can now spend more time at home. And I think in Jon’s case I believe Aussie is now his home.
Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy hitting those high notes...wow wow wow.....Great choice of singers here and yes Leff Kernaghan was the guy in the cowboy hat....a great Aussie country singer...Not sure but I think this record was a fund raiser of some kind for ANZAC day..... Great reaction Susie and Travis...I see you both 'feeling' this song as only a proud Aussie could lol
Saw lee kernaghan in concert at the Gympie music muster on Sunday. Awesome concert. Although he wrote this song, it is being sung by him and a bunch of other musicians. The girl with the coloured hair is from the Brisbane band Shepherd. I’m surprised you have not heard of Shepherd. They’re pretty famous in USA.
The voice speaking is Paul Keating our 24th Prime Minister (1991-1996). For those brave men and women who are currently serving in the armed forces we thank you for your service. And for all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to bring us the freedoms we enjoy today Lest We Forget.
The band Sheppard is well worth having a look at. George, Amy and Emma (all siblings) are all very talented. However you really should have a look at John Stevens as a solo artist along with his band Noiseworks. John was also the front man for INXS for a brief period after the death of lead singer Michael Hutchence.
the whole spirit of the anzacs album is great. changi banjo is my favourite. changi was a group of camps where the japanese held ww2 prisoners of war. they were starved and treated terribly.
Megan Washington, who was in that is an amazing singer. You wouldn’t know it when she sings but she has a debilitating stutter that she’s worked hard to overcome.
You have seen Jon Stevens before (the one you thought was Lee). He was in the video with the cast of Jesus Christ Superstar, featuring the two Johns (Farnham and Stevens) and Kate Ceberano, singing Everything’s Alright. I think you nearly fell of your chairs when you heard him sing in that video. He is a wonderful singer.
TO FORGIVE Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s 1934 speech about former enemies in the Great War - The war to end all wars. (this attribution is disputed) It embodies the folly of war... “Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears. After having lost their lives on this land, they have become our sons as well.” (abridged)... Many of the old diggers spoke of not glorifying what they went through. Lest we forget that! Imagine no more war.😓🦘
here you go all you Aussies, I'm a proud New Zealander, Please get it right, wasn't just the Aussie soldiers, Anzac is Australian and NEW ZEALAND Army Corps.
united state of america we are australia side by side will stand with you to help freedom justice as you saying helping hand any day american australia army united ? we stand
G'day, off subject, I know that you've heard 'sliderbait's' version of Black Betty, they took it from another Aussie band , the 'Mason Rack band' Please listen to their version of Black Betty if you want to hear something completely different, explosive rock at its best.
As good as this song is , its giving me "Sending our love down the well" vibes.. poor Timmy O'toole.. if anyone can remember that episode of the Simpson
Having come from a long line of Military and Police people all I can say is that these songs make me wanna puke. Full of platitudes and jingoism it's embarrassing. Mostly these are done by people who have this fictional view of things.
Proud to have worn our countries uniform
Thank you for your service!
I'm a proud Kiwi as my Grandfather Arthur Wiggins fought as an ANZAC and we love our Aussie Brothers.

You won’t see too many Australian flags flying here, but we are a very proud nation.
I was just thinking exactly the same thing
Powerful Aussie / NZ pride ! 😍

The flag flies from the last breath of every soldier, sailor and airman who died defending our freedom......... not just soldiers
Lee was the Country singer in the hat. There was a lot of talent singing that song. Thank you.❤
